“Yeah but that’s why you keep me around.” He joked because it was better not to think about how his heart was beating out of his chest than to think about exactly what was going on. He needed to keep his head about him and he couldn’t do that if he was giving in to his own freak out. One of them needed to be level headed about all of this and it wasn’t about to be Allela. She was terrified of dating, of falling for another man, giving him her heart and this guy just throwing it away like it meant nothing at all to him and here they were, married! He completely understood her jittery demeanour. Ryder had been planning on waiting a longer time before he dived back into the dating pool again. He had decided shortly after Aimee left that he would worry about finishing school and his music and not worry about girls, flirting and dating until he was established. He may never make it big with music but he wasn’t going to give up either. And while he was trying to make his way, in one of the best cities in the world for music to find itself, he would work on his backup plan. He could be an architect and a musician.
Ryder’s plate was always so full, there was too much on it. But he liked having so much to do that he only stopped long enough to shower, then fall into bed. This weekend was the first time that he’d given himself a break of any kind. If he wasn’t working at the theatre, he was at a café, working on homework, at the library doing the same or at home working on new songs. It was a miracle he found time to play football with the adult league he joined every summer, to spend time with his sister or to eat! “You’re the only one, yes.” He said, chuckling. Aside from his family, Allela was the only one who knew about his adoration of the romantic comedy movies. She teased him constantly whenever she waltzed into his apartment to find him on one of those rare lazy days, sprawled on the couch watching on of the films in his collection. He’d never been one for horror films. He knew it was all fake, special effects and all that but it was like his head just wouldn’t believe it, even as he said “it’s not real”.
She might tease him relentlessly about it but she still sat there with him to finish off the movie so they could get down to the business at hand; usually prepping for a band practice or going over something for work. They were almost constantly together but Ryder didn’t mind in the least. They were the type of friends that never actually ran out of things to talk about and if they ever did fall silent it wasn’t an uncomfortable one. “Necklaces, if you want.” He said, offering up ideas and answers to the thoughts Allela was voicing out loud. “I’ll get the boxes. Gray can plan the packing party. He knows everyone’s number.” He continued, smiling softly. “Pizza counts as dinner.” He was waiting for the slap that would come from him interrupting the way he was. It was bound to happen, but when, he didn’t know. “I was hoping you’d say that.” She was his best friend, the keeper of the few secrets he did have. She knew him better than he knew himself. She definitely knew him better than his own family did and they were close! He didn't know what he would do if Allela walked away and he never saw her again. Neither of them wanted this situation but they were in it now so they may as well make it work for them. Because they couldn’t keep things awkward forever and Ryder could be a bit of a touchy feely person, he pulled Allela into another hug. “We’ll figure it out as we go. But what’s next?” He asked, again pulling away from his new wife.

Allela wished she could remember more from last night, or that she could have a conversation with her drunk self to see why getting married seemed like such a good idea. It left an unsettling feeling in the pit of her stomach, but Allela didn't know how to even begin talking about that. It was something that would take more time to work through in her head before she had the words to try to speak to Ryder about it. Right now it was just a niggle, something that felt just out of her grasp. It didn't seem important when she thought how they couldn't change it, but what did play on her mind was Ryder. She knew he had been in a bad state after Aimee and he hadn't been in a socialising mood at all, let alone a dating one. Allela was the complete opposite of Aimee in every way and she felt responsible for her share of last night and for perhaps screwing up Ryder's life in a way he wasn't ready for. She knew his feelings on marriage and dating at this point in time and yet he wore the white gold band and his name was beside hers on that bit of paper; their only evidence from the night before. “No offence, but it's not like I can get rid of you; you're everywhere I go.”
Usually, Allela's role whenever she caught Ryder with some romantic comedy on his television was to sit there, steal whatever snacks he had and throw sarcastic comments at the TV screen. There were a few classic movies out there that she would never admit to liking, but for the most part she found them clichéd and predictable with a side order of cheese that no one asked for. Most movies were like that to Allela, so unless something had a shocking twist or a plot she didn't mind guessing fifteen minutes in, Allela would always choose music. She found it more powerful than anything Hollywood could put on a big screen. Music was honest and personal and it didn't involve scripted lines that she was certain no man would ever speak to a woman. Unless, of course, that man was Ryder and he had almost ingested cheesy movie speeches because of his secret love. “Never expect me to be one of those giggling damsels.” She said, rolling her eyes at the very thought of them sharing some cheesy romantic moment. Even with wedding rings and a marriage certificate, she was finding it difficult to ever think of herself and Ryder as a couple people envied.
Shaking her head, Allela dropped his hand and pulled a face. “I already have a necklace I'm pretty attached to. And I have no time for knotted jewellery.” The 'A' that hung around her neck had been there since she was thirteen and it was the one item of jewellery Allela never took off; if you didn't count her numerous piercings. “There's no point anyway. If we move in together then people will want to know why and if we're going to really try to give this a go then it's hardly going to be a secret.” Looking down at her left hand, Allela tilted her wrist to see the ring in the light. “Besides, it's kind of a nice ring.” She commented with a slight shrug before turning her gaze back to her husband. Part of her was still finding this so insane that she was convinced she'd wake up any minute now. She hugged Ryder back and squeezed him slightly tighter than usual. She wasn't the greatest when it came to expressing gratitude, but she was thankful he had been able to keep a somewhat calm head through this. “A stiff drink?” Allela suggested dryly, rubbing her hands over her face and letting out a long sigh before falling back onto the bed to think. “Okay, so we tell our folks and everyone else when we get back home. The quicker we get that out of the way the less awkward everything will be, hopefully.” She sat up and looked up at her husband with a nervous glance. “Um, look, this is irrelevant compared to the big stuff but, um, do all wedding ceremonies end with the same line?” It had been a fleeting thought as she'd sobered up and calmed down, but there had been pressing matters to discuss that had overshadowed this one so far. Allela just knew that it would be something that would drive her crazy if she didn't at least say it to someone and she was curious to see if Ryder's mind had gone there too.

Ryder didn’t know if they’d ever get back any of the memories from the night before. They’d obviously had more to drink than either of them usually had on nights out. Ryder knew he did at least! The man almost always stuck to beer and usually only had a few before switching to soda with lime or water. He didn’t usually like to get so out of control, he loses parts of his night. “Not my fault you picked my school from the dozens in the city.” He teased, knowing NYU had the best music programme. Briefly, he’d thought about going that route when he was still in high school. But he had wanted something to fall back on if his music career didn’t pan out. He had high hopes for the band, but his parents would have been pissed if they tossed so much money towards his education and he didn’t have something that would provide some stability for their son. “I would institutionalise you immediately.” He promised, chuckling. There wasn’t much for people to be jealous of with them. If anything, Ryder thought anybody on the outside looking in could envy the fact that they already had an honest relationship; they didn’t have to hide anything.
“Just a suggestion.” He said, raising his hands in the air surrendering. He didn’t have any jewelry that he was attached to. He had one bracelet he wore quite a bit that Allela had actually given him for a birthday one year but he didn’t constantly have it on and it wouldn’t get tangled if he’d worn other bits and bobs along with it. Ryder’s eyes travelled down to the ring on Allela’s finger. “Thanks. I told you I had great taste.” He teased lightly, running his thumb tentatively across the ring. It was a pretty little ring. Ryder even impressed himself that he had chosen such a pretty ring without any help at all. That had mean something; especially since the last time he’d dragged his sister out to get help picking out the ring he had given to Aimee. “A stiff drink is what got us here.” Ryder reminded her grinning.
“We could still go to dinner tomorrow. I told my mom I didn’t know if I’d be back in time for it so to go on without me but I could call and tell her I can make it and that I’m bringing you along. She adores you and your bluntness.” He said, thinking out loud a bit with a light laugh. Ryder stood there blinking for a minute. With everything else going on, it hadn’t even occurred to him that they might have gone that far. “Which part? The “I do’s” and the kiss or later on, because I’m sure the pictures on our phones prove one happened and since most of our clothes were on this morning the other didn’t.” They woke up with almost everything they fell into the bed wearing still on. Aside from the stupidly itchy sweater he’d donned for his iconic costume. And as if realising he still wasn’t wearing a shirt, he turned and grabbed one from his bag. He hadn’t actually unpacked his bag the night before since he was too busy attempting to mess with the liquid latex before giving it up completely and washing it all off.

Pulling a face, Allela rolled her eyes. “It was the closest to home.” She said, as though it really was the reason she chose to study there and not just a bonus on those early mornings. She wasn't exactly the easiest person to wake up with and Ryder might even find himself regretting his choice of wife after he had to deal with that struggle daily. Allela wasn't human until there was coffee in her and even then she needed at least twenty minutes with her headphones and her iPod before anyone should even attempt to speak with her. For Allela, music was the only road. Whether the band took off and she found herself performing on stages or she took a position somewhere behind the curtains of a record company, she knew that music would be in her future. There was no doubt about it in her mind and she was stubborn enough to do whatever it took to make that a reality.
“Yeah, don't get an ago about it.” She warned him, pulling her hand back and hiding it under her sleeve. Allela would love to know how they had ended up with rings and where on earth they had found themselves for Ryder to go on a shopping splurge, but she was resigned to the whole of last night being an eternal mystery for the pair. At least her best friend knew her well enough to pick out a ring Allela liked and not something that was the wrong gold. Chuckling, she nodded her head and pushed her hair back from her face. “Well, maybe it'll help us remember what the hell possessed us last night.” She suggested jokingly, wishing that really was the way it worked. She'd have grabbed a bottle out of the other room by now if that was the case. “At least we know we've probable topped the drunken madness scale now.” She couldn't see anything of this magnitude happening again, even if they repeated last night with the same drinks order. As far as she was concerned this was possibly the most insane thing she could do while intoxicated, which wasn't really a relief at all.
Sighing, Allela felt those nerves rising up again. They wouldn't go away until all this was over and everyone knew the truth about their new relationship status. “Well, let's just hope she adores me as her daughter-in-law.” Allela said quietly. She enjoyed being able to grab dinner with the Wilcox family, but this would be a different situation and one Allela couldn't help but dread. She never saw herself as the girl someone would bring home to their mother. “Mine can find out over Skype. At least that way I can close the lid on my laptop down if they get too annoying.” She was trying to see the lighter side of things now so that she could forget worrying about something they couldn't deal with while still in Atlantic City. “I'll send a message to my dad with a time, so he knows to expect it.” He'd also probably tell the rest of the Rosslyn family and gather as many of them together as he could. Allela lost count of how many Skype chats opened with nine people crammed into the little webcam shot. Wrapping her arms around her, Allela chewed on her lip for a moment. “I meant the first part. The photo is...well undeniable, but it's clearly after the wedding, which means there are at least two kisses we don't remember. Ryder, it's kind of creepy when you think about it.” She wasn't one for flirting in bars or hitting on people when she was drunk, so the thought of kissing Ryder and not remembering it was unsettling. Her mind hadn't even gone on to thinking about anything else further than that, but now it was. “And as for that...well, yeah. I'm...no.” The topic made her nervous and she ended up folding her arms tighter across herself. Ryder might have been her best friend and now her husband, but Allela's issues were not about to vanish into thin air; at least not yet.

“What a coincidence.” Ryder said dryly, looking up at the ceiling. In fact, the reason he’d gone with NYU was because it also had the absolute best programme in New York for architecture. He hadn’t been willing to go out of state for school or he would have gone somewhere else. He was admittedly a family man. He was always in near constant contact with his family through texts and occasional calls. When he’d gone to France with a class trip for two weeks, he’d missed his family too much and had known when he got back from his little journey; he wouldn’t be able to be that far away from his family any time soon. By now, he could probably go off somewhere having lived on his own since the beginning of university but he didn’t see the point now that he was already nearly through school. “How could I, you’ll just knock me back down again.” He said, grinning because he couldn’t get an ego with Allela around to punch him and yell at him until he gave up.
Ryder had known better than to drink as much as he had but he did remember thinking the night before that it was a go big or go home situation and he had done exactly that. He took that whole mentality to a whole new level apparently, managing to buy a ring and marry his best friend without a single damn memory of any of it. “Yeah, I don’t think we could get any crazier than that.” He agreed, running his fingers through his hair. This was a pretty big stunt. If they managed to do anything quite on that scale, he would seriously be impressed. As it was he was awestruck by the fact that he left the suite the night before a happily single man and woke up a very confused married one with no recollection of a single thing after those first few drinks.
“They’ll be shocked, for sure. But I don’t think they’ll be completely displeased with the situation. They already think of you as another daughter. Now, it’s just official.” He said with a light shrug, trying to make light of going to dinner with his family for the first time as a married couple. “Have any day or time in mind?” He asked, pulling at his bottom lip with his teeth. These things needed to be sorted out, he understood that but at the same time it was extremely nerve-wracking to know her parents and all her siblings would probably be there and throwing all sorts of questions their way; questions they didn’t actually have answers to. “Well, we’ve found the next thing on the awkward list. I hadn’t actually thought about it.” He said, dropping down to the edge of the bed again. She was right, it was unsettling that they had obviously kissed to seal their nuptials and didn’t remember any of it. Whenever Ryder thought about his wedding, he had hoped to remember it and yet there was nothing at all. He wanted to remember kissing his wife after the “I dos” and yet he was floundering in a sea of blanks.

Leaving her family behind hadn't been all that difficult. Allela knew it sounded cold and uncaring to a stranger, but there had been nine of them cramped into a small house for as long as she could remember. Setting out on her own was her real first taste of freedom and independence without knowing that there was a strong chance of a brother or sister being at the same party or teenage hangout that she was at. There were times when she missed them and going home was saved for the holidays alone, but Allela didn't regret coming to New York. She found it cheesy to say the journey had help her find herself, but it really did help her see where she wanted to take her life and get rid of the toxic baggage that she had been hauling around Glasgow. The way she saw things even before she woke up with a ring on her finger was that New York City was where her future was. “And I have so much fun doing it.” She teased with a small smile. With any of the guys in her life she was the one to smack them over the head when they were grinning proudly or remind them of their human flaws when they were feeling godly.
Allela usually had people to stop her from doing something overly crazy when she was drinking, but most of the time it never even came to that. She wasn't one for acting reckless when she was around alcohol and she wasn't the one who would propose stupid ideas that were likely to get them arrested or rushed to the ER. So she really had no answers or explanations for last night other than to say that Ryder should not be her partner in crime around a bar again. However, she doubted that they could top this, even if they ended up black out drunk ever again. “I think we can both say that's a good thing.” She had always found The Hangover movies to be exaggerated dramatically, but she was starting to wonder how far from the truth they really could be. After all, waking up with a traffic cone was considered a regular sign of a good night out and she had woken up married and with her best friend – her new husband – passed out beside her.
Allela was still doubtful. There was a big difference between liking someone and having them as part of the family. “Official, but we don't remember how.” She pointed out, knowing that it would be the details that parents would want to know about rather than the fact of the marriage. She shrugged and tried to work out the time zone differences and match that to their schedules and that of her parents'. “I guess the sooner the better. It'll have to be first thing in the morning or when we're having lunch. Monday or Tuesday would probably be best before we have to deal with anything else.” She was voicing thoughts out loud now. Her parents worked, but her father worked from an office at home now none of the kids lived there and her ma could take a day off and make it up later with her job; it was how they were always around for when Allela called. As for her siblings, well they would make it if they could. Shaking her head, Allela picked up her phone and then dropped it down again. “The photo put the thought in my mind.” She admitted softly. It was hardly the wedding either of them had dreamed of, but they couldn't do much about that. Maybe this had all happened for a reason, but Allela couldn't make heads or tails of why.

Ryder had never known what it was like to be surrounded by half a dozen or more people whenever he was home. There were only four of them on any given day and it was actually a rare “treat” to have his father’s parent’s visit, even though they lived fairly closely. The most people he’d been in one house with that he was related to was back in Verona. Not a single trip went by without a big family meal and everybody gathering at his nonna’s and nonno’s house for that meal. The vineyard was massive though with plenty of space to accommodate them all. It was a wonder any of them actually went home when it was home, every Sunday there was a huge family meal. In New York, it may have only been four of them but it was still a big meal with plenty of leftovers. “Yeah, don’t I know it, too.” He said, absently rubbing the back of his head where he’d be slapped too many times to count by the Scot.
Ryder was usually the one keeping the sense among those around him. Usually, even with Allela, he was the voice of common sense when the drinks were a little too free flowing. “I’m never drinking with you again.” He joked. It wasn’t like they drank often and so much that they had these kind of black out nights. And they weren’t about to do anything quite so crazy as they had the night before so even if they had done that again, he doubted they would end up at the same scale as this past time. At least, they couldn’t wake up married again; they’d already done that. “If we could find our way back to where we ended up, we might be able to get surveillance video of it all.” Ryder said, chewing on his bottom lip. In all honesty, he wasn’t sure if he wanted to know exactly what happened through the night after they’d left the club. He wanted the mystery solved, but at the same time, he didn’t need to know all the details. It would help when they had to tell people but it wouldn’t be first hand recounting; it would be then telling the tale of what they’d seen, like repeating scenes from a movie they both watched.
Ryder nodded understanding and mentally working out his class schedule. “I have an early class Tuesday so Monday would be better.” His only class on Monday didn’t start until two in the afternoon but it was three hours long and left Ryder exhausted by the time the class was free to leave. Ryder hadn’t thought about anything more from the night before than calming Allela down now. He hadn’t thought about the actual wedding, he hadn’t thought about the kiss that obviously would have happened and he didn’t remember. He hadn’t thought about anything more than stopping Allela from screaming at the top of her lungs in a panic attack before emptying each and every bottle of alcohol in the next room.

Allela's main worry about telling her family was about the fact that there were so many to tell. The Rosslyn's were a big bunch and while her parents would spread the news to aunts and uncles, there was still a large amount of people who would know almost immediately. Some of her siblings were married with children, one or two were dating with relatives putting bets on who would pop the question first. The thought of all the questions and opinions that would come her way was overwhelming. However, Allela knew it was something that had to be done and maybe announcing the news over Skype would be easier to control. At least she could end the call if it got too intense, but she didn't think Ryder or her family would be pleased if she chickened out like that. Raising her eyebrow at Ryder, Allela smirked lightly. “Well it's not like you can escape it now.” She pointed out, tapping her ring as though he needed a reminder about the new change in their relationship.
“Until the next time.” Allela retorted. While avoiding alcohol seemed like the best idea for both of them now, she knew it was something that wouldn't stick permanently. They went out too often with their friends and between the dares issued and the bets accepted it would be nearly impossible to stick to sodas or water all night long. Plus, nothing this crazy happened in New York and she was certain that once their friends knew about this latest development that they'd never be left alone again. “I suppose we had to find the rings somewhere, too.” Retracing their steps could be a difficult task and it could be one that made things awkward again. At least by not remembering they didn't have to worry about anything they said or did. Seeing security footage might trigger some memories, but there was no guarantee that it would be a good thing. Allela was on the fence about the decision, but if Ryder wanted it then she could go along with the plan.
Nodding her head, Allela chewed on her bottom lip. “So...we tell your parents tomorrow and then mine on Monday. That's the hard bit out of the way.” She said, grabbing her phone to send a message to her father to let him know in advance of the incoming call. Plus, this way she couldn't make up an excuse tomorrow night and back out of it. She didn't know how she'd tell them yet, but the sooner it was done the sooner she could stop fretting about it. Whatever came after the parents knew the truth would be simple. There would definitely be a lot of changes once they were back in New York and Allela's head began to hurt just thinking about everything. “Anything else we should probably think through?” She asked, looking up at Ryder again and really just wanting to stop worrying about the reaction of her family and his.

“If had wanted to escape it every other time, I would have walked away. A little tap upside the head and some dry words aren’t going to kill me.” He pointed out. He’d had plenty of opportunity since meeting Allela to turn around and walk away. He hadn’t. Between him and Nikki, it was always a joke that he would be the one to get married and live happily ever after long before she would. He had his dreams, his choices and his back up. Nikki was a bit of a flake but she was far more cynical as well. She believed her brother would have his happy ending but she thought it wouldn’t happen until he was older and had achieved at least some of his dreams. That was her wish at any rate. That wouldn’t be that she got thought. He had realised some of his dreams. He was the frontman of a band and the backing guitarist. He knew what he wanted and he was going after it with everything he had. He just now had a wife to go along with those plans. Being married to Allela wasn’t going to stop him from chasing his dreams, especially when they shared the same ones.
Ryder groaned, looking up at the ceiling of their hotel suite. “Does there have to be a next time?” He asked, knowing full well that there would be plenty of next times ahead of them. Hell, he was going to need a drink to get through dinner the next evening and all the questions that would be asked of them. He wouldn’t have an answer of how or why and he hoped that those would be two questions not asked by his family; or hers. He had never lied to his parents before, he didn’t want to start now, but he was concerned about what they would say once the cat was out of the bag. Ryder nodded his head, running his fingers through his hair yet again. “I didn’t bring that kind of cash with me this weekend.” He said softly, thinking out loud. “I had to have bought them with my cash card or my credit card.” He continued to mutter to himself as he dug through the pocket of his jeans. In the right front pocket, he pulled another piece of paper. It could have been a flyer, it could have been a receipt, he didn’t know. “Do you want to know?” He asked, holding it up for her to take if she wanted it. “I don’t know if I want to know, you know?” He said knowing he probably didn’t make a lick of sense at all. They should try to get all the information they could so they had something to tell their parents that went further than they got drunk, they got married. But he kind of liked the mystery of it. He didn’t have a clue why, which probably made him crazy, but he did.
Ry didn’t know if telling their parents would be the hard bit of if it would turn out to be the easiest part of everything. He was hoping it would be the hard part and then everything else would be easier, even just a tiny bit easier. It wasn’t just for him, Allela needed to breathe a little easier and she couldn’t do that until she was past this next step. “I’ll text my mom to push dinner back.” He said, reaching for his own phone to send a text to his mother. He just said a quick can make it but push it back a couple hours, hit send and tossed his phone back onto the bed to be forgotten again. “I’m sure there is but for the life of me, I can’t figure out what it could be.” He said honestly, shaking his head at himself. He was clueless once again and he usually had the answers for everything.

“They aren't going to kill you...yet. Wait until I really lose my cool.” She teased, managing a dark look and a mysterious smirk. On the few very rare occasions when Allela did get angry at Ryder she only shouted at him until it was all out of her system and then usually stormed off to give him a while to let her point sink in. It wasn't something she enjoyed happening between them and it was why the brutal honesty they had really paid off well for them. Some people might have been shocked by it, but it worked out fantastically between her and Ryder. Although she never would have thought it could lead to this. In all of her years of thinking about it, Allela had put marriage in the far flung future, long after she had tired herself out chasing dreams. She didn't see the later being a problem, even now. It wasn't like Ryder was going to stop her when their dreams already crossed at several intersections. All this really meant was that they'd be together for the others too, should they ever become a reality and not some distant fantasy. Allela could live with that. With all the teasing and insults she threw at Ryder she supported him too and no marriage certificate was needed to make her care about his wishes.
Shrugging, she crossed her legs and brought her knees up again. “There doesn't have to be, but you're only lying to yourself if you believe that.” She grinned, though she did think it might be time to take things a little easier. Then, when she thought about it, she'd be so busy trying to adjust to married life and deal with all the changes that Allela doubted she'd have the energy to balance school, moving, work and making this work with Ryder next to anything else. She was sure it wouldn't be too long before she got back to her usual habits, but for a little while there would definitely be a break from the constant parties. Her blue eyes widened and she stood up to see what Ryder was going to find. “A paper trail would give us answers.” Allela mused aloud, though her heart was racing at the thought of what they might discover. Staring at the slip of paper in Ryder's hand, Allela chewed aggressively on her bottom lip as she thought. “If this was anyone else then I'd be demanding they fill in the blanks, but it's us. We've made our decision; is remembering anything going to change that?” She asked, already aware that they'd still return to New York as husband and wife. “All we'll ultimately know is that we got married. It's not going to alter that little fact.” The more she thought the more she realised how finding out the truth of last night would only make things awkward.
Allela wasn't really worried about what came after telling their parents. She could spend days with Ryder and never get bored or annoyed by his presence, so moving in with him didn't seem like that big of a deal. She knew their friends would probably just laugh and joke more about it than they would criticise and everything else just seemed so minor. But this was facing the people who raised them, who thought them to be better than half of the mistakes they made. It was terrifying in case there was even a glimmer of disappointment from any of them. “So we get to tell them while they're probably ravenous. Great.” Allela's sarcasm came through no matter what her mood was and this was no different. Shaking her head, she shoved Ryder playfully. “Good to see you've already gotten the useless husband part down.” She teased, although she didn't have a clue if there was more to talk about either. It felt like there should be, but her mind was just swimming with all of this new information from this morning.

Ryder had seen Allela when she’d lost her cool and it could be a shocking experience. He usually ended up just sat there blinking for a few minutes whilst her words clicked into their proper places and it wasn’t until after that did he go after her and see if she was alright. They were usually good after that and went back to the way things were beforehand, with a little reminder for Ryder screaming in the back of his head. Now, if that wasn’t actually Allela losing her cool, he was in for a very interesting time ahead of him. Despite being on the receiving end of her yelling matches, he could handle them well enough. But Ryder liked the brutal honesty they had between them. They didn’t have to worry about hurting the other’s feelings when they knew it would be understood. He knew it wouldn’t make Allela burst into tears like it wouldn’t break his heart if she told him something he needed to hear. “You mean to tell me you’ve been sunshine and daisies until now?” He asked sarcastically. They would joke that there wouldn’t be another drinking session but they both knew there would be; especially if they got all their friends together to help pack up and move things over. “There’s going to be plenty.” He admitted, chuckling because no matter what he said, he knew the truth.
Ryder had the answers to all their questions in the slip of paper in his hands. It would start them off to where they needed to go to find the next step; if they wanted it. “It would.” He agreed quietly though he hadn’t been asked for his opinion. “No.” He said simply because it was the simple fact. He wasn’t going to turn his back on this marriage. It might not have been what he wanted from a marriage but thinking about it, what more could he want? He was married to his best friend, he already knew said friend better than anyone else in the city and she knew all there was about him. On paper, they were perfect for each other. “So, we tear this up?” He asked. There would be the receipt sent to him whenever his bills came in again but for now, it could be forgotten as easily and tearing this little piece of paper in two.
“As long as we don’t tell them while they’re cooking, we're fine.” He said, offering what was obviously unhelpful information. He was trying to make light of it all so Allela would actually make it through his parent’s front door and not just turn around, take the car and run when he used his key in the door. “Hey!” He exclaimed, chuckling. “What can I say, I aim to please!” For someone who usually had at least some of the answers, this was a little unreal for the Italian man. But he didn’t want to know the specifics; he just needed to know he was legally married to Allela. Everything else, he could deal with.
