Living in New York meant that there was rarely a week that passed by in Allela’s life that didn’t have a party, concert or bar involved. Technically, she was still underage for another year, but the ID in her purse said otherwise and had yet to fail her. The hotter months brought along more parties and reasons to celebrate, which Allela was not about to complain over. She wasn’t travelling this year since she had decided to return to university and finish off the education she had dropped out from. That required the money she would usually spend to travel to Thailand or wherever else happened to take her fancy when she was looking online and speaking to the friends she still kept in touch with from her trips around the globe. For the same reason she wasn’t returning to Scotland either, instead promising her family that she would be there for Christmas instead, which was when Glasgow was probably in her glory. All of that meant that Allela was out more, partying more and bugging her friends more while she enjoyed the summer in New York City.
Tonight was no different. Someone she knew was having a birthday party in a bar down by the beach. She had been there maybe twice before and knew it was a fun place and the party promised a good time. Such an event meant that she was on the phone to her friends and practically demanding their presence there. Grayson was easy to sway. All she had to do was mention the words beach and party and he promised to be there once his shift at Hard Rock was over. Next she badgered Eli while he took his lunch. She was pretty certain he agreed just so she would leave and let him get back to work, but Allela didn’t care. All that mattered was that he had said yes and he knew better than to try and back out of that. Finally, she called over to Rhi’s apartment and after annoying Reese at the door for five minutes, she convinced Rhiannon into coming out with the rest of them for an evening of drinks, sand and potentially some fun moments of “what the hell?” for the following morning.
After heading home to walk Jesse, call Ryder to make sure he had the messages for his shift in the booth that evening, and get ready for the party, Allela was back out with her phone in hand. She checked in with Eli and then called Rhi who she planned on picking up along the way once she hailed a cab. Eli promised to meet them there within the hour and Allela politely threatened physical pain if he was a no show.
The girls finally arrived at the bar just as the party was really kicking off and Allela wasted no time in dragging Rhiannon to the bar to order the first round of drinks and shots. With a beer for each of them to begin with, Allela made sure they accompanied the cold bottles with a tequila shot. “An’ dinnae think anyone is bailin’ on me tonight. It’s summer an' there is no excuse to leave a place like this.” She knew Rhi wasn’t one for vanishing on her as a night kicked off, but the warning still served and would be repeated to both Grayson and Eli, too. She hadn’t seen either of them yet, but the crowd was pretty heavy in there and it was still a little on the earlier side. Grayson had a shift to finish first and Eli would show soon enough, but for now she could people watch with Rhi, dance and make the young artist compete in one of her usual shot contests. “You haven’t met Gray yet, have you?” She asked, suddenly realising that she couldn’t remember a time or a party where both Rhiannon and Grayson were present. It was odd, since she had been sure that the pair would get along just great!

It had been a long time since Rhiannon actually went out for a night of good fun with anyone. There had been so much to be done when her contract with Marvel ended and she was scouted, or more appropriately stolen out from under her original company by DC Comics. All those hours full of legal papers and new contracts had driven the poor artist mad but at the same time she’d been excited about the transfer as well. It brought on a higher pay and she could finally start bringing in all those new characters she’d wanted but couldn’t with her old job. This time around she really did have a say in what she was doing, and that part of the long and boring process was worth it all. Rhiannon had been running around like a mad woman picking up new supplies so she could lock herself in her studio and just create.
She had her hair up in a mess of forgetting the real world and ink all over her hands and arms when Allela tore her from the drawing she was inking and badgered until she agreed to go out for the night. It wasn’t that hard for the Scottish girl to do since the brunette wanted to celebrate her new position. So she walked her best friend out after making plans for the pink haired music lover to swing by to collect her on the way to this party. And as soon as she shut that door, she set an alarm on her phone and made Reese promise to interrupt her as many times as he needed to so she would stop working and start getting ready. It was going to take an hour just to get her arms scrubbed free of the ink coating them! She went back to work on that picture, just to finish it off, all the while the night’s plans were swimming in the back of her mind, slowly getting her more excited for the night out.
It took ninety minutes to finish the page but once it was done, Rhi pushed it to the side to dry and rushed out of the room, calling to her brother that she was heading for the shower and that he should make something that resembled food so she wouldn’t faint from starvation while she was enjoying her evening. Rhi didn’t know how much Allela told her big brother about what was happening, but she also knew her brother was well aware his baby sister was no saint. She drank like a fish while she was out, danced with just about anyone if the music called to her but she never went home with anyone she didn’t go to the party with. Checking her appearance in the mirror one last time, Rhiannon hoped she was dressed okay for this particular party. She figured it was near the beach so something along the same lines would do and that was what she went for while still keeping with her slight addiction. She was slipping her foot into her shoe when her friend knocked on the door, signalling the beginning of what would most likely be a long and amusing night.
Rhi didn’t mind being dragged to the bar. It was there usual first stop of the night anyway. The music was already calling to plenty of people and the brunette artist knew it wouldn’t be too long before she was one of them. “Didn’t plan on it!” She laughed, knocking back the shot of tequila happily. She might have been a fairly good girl, but she was quite the drinker. Allela seemed to have some sort of super power for getting them to parties at the right time. There was always a big crowd and none of that awkward sitting around waiting for more people to show up to make it a real party. That had been the worst for Rhiannon when it was her parent’s throwing the fundraiser, luncheon, ball or whatever. She had to be one of the first ones there to be polite and greet everyone else. It had sucked, but Allela wasn’t from that world and Rhiannon couldn’t have been more thankful for it. “Umm, nope.” Rhi said thinking about it. She had met plenty of Allela’s friends but one named Gray wasn’t on that list. Taking a swig of her beer, Rhiannon turned her attention to the crowd surrounding them. The place was packed, which was always fun. “So, what nefarious drinking games have you concocted for tonight, Alley-cat?”

Grayson had to admit that as much as he loved New York he still loved being close to the water more. He had already made a number of trips over the summer to fulfil his needs of waves, kayaks and hot sun. It was never going to be the same as New Zealand, but he made the most of everything. After all, he liked to think that he was living his life for two now, after his best friend passed away. It had encouraged Gray to enjoy his life and part of that had come from meeting Allela. They had met purely by coincidence in a bar that held open mic nights. Sharing a dislike for similar things and arguing over others it was nearly impossible for them not to become friends. After that the party invites just kept coming and Gray definitely had to admit that the pink haired girl knew how to have a good night out. Plus, she could hold her own when it came to alcohol, which was something Grayson had found to be rare in the women of the city. They seemed to pack themselves into skin tight dresses and drink until they were at high risk of breaking their ankle in ridiculous shoes. While they were definitely nice to look at, Grayson hadn’t been able to hold much of a conversation with one. Not that he was looking for anyone to begin with. He just enjoyed being able to talk music or travelling with someone the following morning.
When the call had come through that day, Gray was just getting ready for his shift at Hard Rock. He wasn’t about to let that stop him though! Getting the details and the address from Allela he promised to meet her there later. He knew better than to try to say no to the Scottish girl and luckily his boss didn’t need him to stay to help cover the staff shortage problems that came with the summer months and everyone jetting off on luxury vacations or home to see their families. He didn’t head straight out to the party, but went home first. He needed to shower and change and probably grab some sort of dinner. There was enough in his refrigerator to whip up a decent enough salad dish and he tossed it all together before eating it as he watched Youtube videos. He didn’t have the time to invest in TV programmes, so Youtube channels of stunts and tricks, charity messages, and comical parodies were his fix of television, so to speak. After showering and grabbing some of his usual style of clothes from his wardrobe, Grayson got changed and then stuffed all the necessities into his pockets. He didn’t want to have to turn back when he was halfway down the street and realising that he had forgotten his wallet. It had happened before and he had owed Allela a small fortuning for covering him that night. Whenever they were together the drinks did indeed flow.
Grayson chose to walk down to the bar where the party was. It was only half an hour or so from his apartment and he preferred being out in the city over taking a cab whenever he needed to go somewhere. He bumped into a few people on the way which slowed him down, but he made it to the bar in good time. There was one good thing about meeting Allela in places; she stood out in a crowd. It only took him his first scan of the room to find her chatting to a brunette girl. As he approached he heard her reeling off a list of drinking games that often slipped into one of their nights out. “Y’ better be plannin’ on tequila shots for each girl in a bikini.” He joked when he was close enough to interrupt her. “Be hammered in thirty minutes or less.” He grinned, as though he was trying to sell the idea to the pair of them. Turning to the girl he had never met before but could have sworn was in a photo in Allela’s apartment, he introduced himself with a nod of his head and a tip of his bandana “Name’s Grayson. I kick about with this one.” He explained, just so she didn’t think he was some creepy stranger just coming on over. He had seen what Allela did to them and he would rather not be on the receiving end of it.

Eli was well aware he worked too hard. But he always felt like he needed to prove himself because of his dyslexia. He knew that wasn’t the case, his boss knew he was good at what he did, but it was more for him than anything anyway. The breaks his friends provided were needed after some of the weeks he had at work, trying to deal with new clients and getting flustered when he filled out the paperwork wrong. His friends didn’t say anything mean about it though they did joke and tease to get him out of any foul moods he was put into because of the dyslexia and the issues he’d faced his entire life. He hardly kept it a secret but Eli also didn’t go around flaunting it either. And after the week he’d had at work, with those new clients, Allela’s demand that he go to this party was too welcome for words.
With the paperwork finished and the new pieces catalogued, Eli wove to his boss, informing him he was done and going home. He stopped for a coffee on the way to his lower west side converted factory apartment and finished that by the time he put the key in the lock. He knew better than to take any longer than he absolutely needed because Allela would keep calling until he showed up at the bar. He had definitely learned his lesson with that pink haired Scot. His shower could probably make the record books, within an hour, he was walking through the front door of his apartment and walking back out again in a change of clothes and ready to drink and dance the night away. Eli hailed a taxi to take him to the address in the text and sat back to enjoy the twenty minute ride to wherever the hell Allela had him going.
When the yellow car pulled over, Eli tossed a few bills to the driver and slipped out of the back seat, heading straight inside the bar. The music was already pulsing when he got there, the party in full swing which was nice he’d thought he was going to be so early. Eli walked through the bar until he spotted Allela’s pink head and the slightly shorter brunette in the usual superhero attire she seemed to love. They were talking to someone but from his angle, he couldn’t see who it was. Fine for him really, he had either partied with them before or it would happen again in the future. He skirted a group of cackling girls and a group of guy’s obviously rating said girls, trying to sneak up on his friends though he didn’t get the chance. Rhiannon looked his way, almost liked she’d been opening her mouth say something before she’d spotted him and pushed through the crowd towards him calling out his terrible yet understandable nickname. “Ichabod!” the pretty brunette called throwing herself at him, laughing. He spun her around, as per his usual greeting for the comic book artist. “Hey, Supergirl, Alley-cat, Grayson.” He said, finishing his greetings when they got to the pair of them at the bar.

Allela didn’t cope well with stress and pressure. If often sparked off her short fuse and then it wasn’t long before she exploded on someone. There were even friends who couldn’t escape from it if they were in the wrong place at the wrong time. It was one of the many reasons why she made sure to get the use out of her fake ID. She needed the parties, the fun times and the freedom from the serious side of life in New York. It had to be a bar or a party since she couldn’t just jet off to Thailand or Spain and live the travelling life she had loved before she landed in the city. Even when she had the chance she still took off to cross another location from the spinning globe that sat in her apartment and was usually knocked over by her hyperactive dog. Dragging her friends along was her way of making sure they didn’t get bogged down by the torment of city life, too.
Normally there was only one or two friends accompanying her on her nights of madness, but this time Allela had turned to more. The group might have been larger, but people had jobs and not everyone was lucky enough to have the evening off to get drunk, make silly mistakes and curse themselves with long, gruelling hangovers for the following morning. She didn’t bother thinking about the antics the four of them could cause once they were all together, but she could bet that they’d be memorable…so long as they could put the pieces together whenever they emerged the next day. Allela herself had no plans on rising before noon, even if someone prodded and poked at her all morning long.
Rolling her eyes, Allela could only shake her head and bring her drink to her lips. “You’d be too busy tryin’ t’ stalk them that you’d forget the shot.” She said matter-of-factly. The pink haired Scot had lost track of how many nights out where she had temporarily lost Grayson because some skimpy dressed Barbie doll had distracted him. “Yeah, this is Rhi. Rhi, this is the Gray I just mentioned.” Allela said nonchalantly. She wasn’t about to win any awards for introductions and she never had been. People had voices, they could offer up their names themselves if they really wanted to. Eli’s arrival not that long after rounded off their group for this party adventure. “Finally, you’re here.” She stated, punching Eli lightly in the arm as though the three of them had been waiting on him for hours already. Getting the attention of the nearest member of the bar staff, Allela ordered a round of tequila shots for the group, whether they wanted one or not. “Enough with the pleasantries. It’s time to drink.” She instructed, tapping the glass against the other three before knocking it back in one swift move, giving off the image that she had been doing this for far much longer than she really ought to have been doing. “Woo! Alright, c’mon now.” Allela had no intention of letting any of them go home sober and Allela was stubborn enough to often get her way.

Rhiannon knew better than to tell Allela of all her friends that she couldn’t go out on any night unless she wasn’t even in New York, which didn’t happen as often and the brunette liked. But she made the effort to go out as much as she could when she was in town because her closest friend really wouldn’t have had it any other way. When she had the chance, she usually dragged the comic loving Scot with her but there were those trips when she had to go it alone since her brother was usually the one covering for her so she could get away without them knowing she wasn’t doing what she was doing. Rhi was lucky that she could pretty much do whatever she wanted so long as she got her work in before deadline. And she could do that wherever she went travelling because she brought a bag of supplies for those late nights when she couldn’t get to sleep and the only thing that would get her there was work.
She knew tonight there would be no talk of work at all. It was an off limits topic and Rhiannon was okay with that; especially since her work world was never a topic off limits anyway in the world Rhiannon lived in. Her parent’s world was a different story since she had to lie like the faux bear skin run in their Cabin in Upstate New York with a bright smile on her lips. But with Allela, it always got brought up one way or another. “That’s fine! It just means more for us.” Rhi said, laughing. Rhi like meeting new people anywhere she went, it was how she made her living by meeting strangers and talking to them about her work and how it made them feel. It was a big part of the reason Rhi kept doing what she did. Sure, she loved it but in some little way, she’s helping those people who fork out the money to read her comics. “It’s good to meet- excuse me,” She said brushing past to act like the hyperactive fool she was around the friends she did know. Grayson was still a stranger and by the end of the night she was sure that he would know exactly why she and Allela got along so well but until then, she would easily let him believe her a flake. He would know soon enough that she wasn’t someone to brush people off, she just had a short attention span when it came to things outside her work.
“First proper round’s on the last to arrive!” Rhiannon declared as Allela ordered the shots, grinning widely up at Eli like he wouldn’t be able to say no if she used her overly cheesy grin. Happily, Rhi picked up the little shot glass and clicked it against the others before tossing it back easily. She had been hanging out with Allela long enough that shots of anything didn’t knock her on her ass like they used to. And before that, it wasn’t always possible to get through the upper crust’s elite parties without a couple drinks here and there. “Keep the drinks coming!” The petite brunette called. She was there to have a good time and forget that her deadline was quickly approaching and she still had to do nearly half the pages. It was a damn good thing her comics weren’t the type that needed to be printed and out on the shelves every month. Hers came out when she got them out and that was that, though with this new position, she would probably have to figure it all out from the beginning again. Tomorrow at the earliest, or after she woke up from the hangover she was sure she was going to get being out with Allela; they never did anything half assed.

Grayson had always lived a sociable life. His parents constantly expressed their desire to see him focus on his studies more, like his sister, but Gray had much more of an enjoyable time meeting people, hearing their stories, and making friends. Of course, his college education got enough attention to maintain a more than acceptable average, but no one needed to twist his arm to get him out to the bars and clubs of New York City. He had dragged Allela out as often as she had dragged him and the pair were more than enough to get into trouble! Grayson was excited to see what could happen when four of them were together and partying in the height of the New York summer. He didn't need anyone to tell him that it would be an adventure; that much was practically certain already! They had yet to find themselves in trouble they couldn't charm or fight their way out of, but Grayson wouldn't ignore the chances, especially not when one of his closest friends had a temper that he was fairly certain could knock out a whole district.
The New Zealand man could only laugh softly at Rhiannon. He had heard some of the tales from Allela, but he always thought the Scottish girl was prone to a slight bit of exaggeration from time to time. Now he could see that she certainly hadn't taken anything over the top while telling him all about her antics with Rhi and how it was only a matter of time before the artist's brother either stopped Allela from taking his sister out to these parties, or wound up in hospital from a heart attack of hearing what his baby sibling got up to. "Exactly like you said." He admitted with a slow nod of his head as Rhiannon greeted Eli. Grayson slapped the other man on the back in his usual fashion, his eyes fleeting back to the line of shots the barman was preparing for the young group. "Looks like you lucked out this time, Kane." He teased, siding with the girls about who had to buy the first round. They'd all have their turn, but there was no harm in some playful teasing about it.
With the shot quickly knocked back, Grayson pushed his hair out of his face and readjusting the bandana that was supposed to keep it back. "Why do I get the feelin' that one of us is gettin' carried home tonight?" He said teasingly to Eli while the drinks order went back to the barman for the night to really begin. He had no idea what state they'd all be in by the time they had to stagger home, or even if they'd still be a quartet by then, but he knew that no one would be seeing straight by the time the sun came up. Not that Grayson was complaining; he knew the signs of a good night and blurred vision, slurred words and a craving for something greasy and fried were the three things at the top of that list. He also knew that in Allela's case she would be shouting for deep fried haggis and then complaining that nowhere fed her craving. It would take another food option to be placed in her hand for her to quieten down. Grayson wondered how Rhi coped with that, if she even did!

Eli tried not to turn down a night out. It was too much in his nature to lock himself in his studio and paint for hours on end until the piece he was working on was just right; and by then it was finished. He reasoned this exact reason was why he and Rhi got along so well; they were too much the same. When they were alone and in their own heads, anything was possible. But when they were out, among the people of the real world, the pair, especially when Allela was around, was a mess of alcohol and sugar highs. He adored the petite brunette and thought of her very much like a little sister, which she’d laughed at when he’d told her as much but she had also admitted to never having enough brothers. It had been a ridiculous conversation over lunch that day when they’d gone supply shopping and Rhiannon showed him all the tiny, hidden away shops that held all the good art supplies.
But he always had a damn good time whenever he was out with the girls or with Allela and Grayson so the bunch of them together could only really lead to one hell of a damn good night by the time the sun rose and they were trying to get the comic book artist back into her apartment before her real big brother woke up and realised she hadn’t been in at all through the night. Not that he would have known otherwise, given the state of the brunette’s room the last time he’d had the task of putting her to bed. For a petite thing, she could hold her liquor; as long as she kept drinking, anyway. “Always the last to get to the party and the last to leave it.” Eli admitted, chuckling. He was almost always the last to get anywhere when he was meeting up with friends. At least with Allela and Rhi, they were usually together. It bothered him though when he was meeting just one friend and kept them waiting because time just slipped away those few extra minutes.
Eli knocked back the shot with the rest of his friends, slamming the shot glass back on the bar top upside down. If the start of this night was any indication of what would follow, none of them would be seeing straight come morning. But then, that just meant they’d have a damn good night and Eli could agree with that. “Is it because we carried you home last time? Hope you’ve lost those five extra booze pounds you’d put on last time. Those stairs were a bitch.” Eli said with a grin, joking of course. Reaching for his wallet, Eli tossed the cash down for the last round and the one set before them. “Someone else’s turn!” He said, chuckling as he lifted the next shot glass. He had a feeling if the girl’s had their way, there wouldn’t be a shot glass out of reach of any of them the entire night.

Allela enjoyed her life of music and chaos. She might have re-enrolled at university in New York, but people shouldn't expect that to mean that she was toning down her life. She'd still be barking sarcastically at Ryder in the sound booth and when they were at rehearsal, and Allela would definitely still find the time to go chasing parties around the city with the like of Rhiannon, Eli and Grayson in tow. She couldn't imagine her life without that whirlwind of chaos most people would commonly describe as Allela herself. Complain all they liked, she knew Eli and Rhi enjoyed themselves despite the hangovers and the claims of having too much work to get through. If they really wanted her to stop then all they had to do was change their cell numbers and move to a different state entirely, possibly adopt an alias if they really wanted to keep her away. None of them had done that yet, so Allela could only assume that they loved her company and were secretly excited when she demanding their company for a night of alcohol, antics and usually some form of anger on the part of the girl with the candyfloss hair.
Allela tossed her head back as she laughed loudly, probably catching the attention of people standing around closest to the bar. “Aye, last t' leave 'cause we have t' find you an' carry you home.” She teased, elbowing Eli in the ribs maybe just a little too hard. She had skeleton arms at the best of times, but her brothers had joked that her elbows could impale someone, some day. Any chance to tease and be sarcastic was when Allela thrived. In fact, she was rarely ever serious in comparison and she could totally understand if people struggled with her when they first met, never knowing if she was being witty or sincere. It was something she didn't let bother her and something her friends usually had to pick up on and explain. She lived her life too fast to stop and explain her motives or actions to total strangers who might be out of her life five minutes later.
Her idea of a good night out ended with blurred vision and then waking up several hours later with no recollection of hitting the pillow. If the pink haired Scot got her way tonight then that would be exactly how it ended. The shots really were only the beginning for the quartet. Laughing at Gray after Eli almost stumped him, Allela arched her eyebrow waiting for his excuse. In all the time she had known Grayson he always had an excuse for everything. “Last time I was the one this 'ere Alley Cat challenged to a drinkin' game!”He protested, only making Allela laugh more and shake her head. “Lightweight!”She teased playfully. Grabbing the next shot glass, Allela wasted not even a second before the glass was against her pale lips and the alcohol sliding down her throat. Slamming the glass back down, she cheered again and then looked between Grayson and Rhi. “Unless we're changin' t' proper drinks, I suggest one o' you get your money out.” She asked, just as the DJ cranked the music up and the party really got underway, the disco lights coming on as the regular lighting snapped out. This looked to be a promising night and so far everything and everyone was still seeing straight; something that needed to be remedied.

Rhiannon loved the world she lived in. Half the time she was in some sort of ordered chaos while the other half was so organised she knew when the wind from the open window pushed a pen an inch out of place. Her studio was much the same as her life. Half of it was a disaster zone, usually known as her drawing desk while the rest was in pristine order. The apartment was clean and probably over organised while her room more often than not looked like she needed a HAZMAT suit just to step a foot in it. It was never intentionally that way but when she got into the swing of her work, other things went unnoticed and unchecked; it was the sole reason she could never live alone. Her friends showing up at her door and dragging her out helped quite a bit in getting her away from her desk and her comics but it did little to get her running around her place picking up after herself when the only two rooms she spent the most time in were her studio and her bedroom and it was apparently expected of her as an artist to have messy personal space.
Allela especially helps getting the brunette out and around other people. Without her it would only really be her brother, her uncle and Eli. And even then Eli didn’t just show up, he texted her first. And no matter how many times the group of them told him it was better to call her and even better to just show up, take her hand and drag her from her stool, he still sent her a message she never got until hours later unless she was already doing something else. Not that Rhiannon was complaining. She loved it when people showed up to drag her out, especially when she lost days with work and the only stop on the agenda was a party like this. Leave it to the pink haired Scot to find the right reason to get the comic illustrator out of her studio. “Do you remember where we found you last time, Ichabod?” Rhi said, shaking her head at him sadly. It had hardly been a bad situation but he hadn’t been about to score any points either. But it was fun to tease him about it since he still couldn’t remember half the night, where they found him or how he’d managed to find Allela’s living room floor with Rhi’s foot in his face as it hung off the couch.
Rhiannon was certain one of the reasons she and Allela got along so well was because they had the same idea of how a good night out should end. There had definitely been more than a dozen nights when they woke up the next morning and had to try and piece together the night before with Rhi treating for breakfast since the greasiest food was always the best the morning after a night like that and the diner down the block from Allela’s had the best hangover food around. It wouldn’t have surprised Rhiannon to find out they were keeping the place in business. “Ladies first, right?” She asked, pulling enough bills from her pocket and smiling coyly at the bartender as he poured their next round of shots. Before Allela, Rhi’s limit had been one maybe two drinks and they were mixed and definitely watered down. These days, she could toss them back and still go back for more. Having Allela as a friend certainly changed the pretty brunette and for the better she thought.

Gray lived his life in the spur of the moment. He wasn't the kind to meticulously plan out his days, even when they were days revolving around studying, class work and exams. He'd rather live impulsively and live while he could. Even since Sky had died with so many dreams left as just that, Grayson was determined to be the opposite. If he wanted to see somewhere then he'd go and see it. If he wanted to do something then he would bloody well do it! It might not be the life his parents wished or expected from him, but Grayson had spent his whole life listening to their disappointment and at twenty-two his skin had hardened to it and he was long since trying to please them. His grandpa had taught him about that and he had stopped relying on his parents for support back when he was a teenager. Now in New York he had the support of his friends and even those who were as blunt and as sarcastic as Allela still cared. Plus they knew where the best parties were at!
Raising his eyebrows, Grayson turned to look at Eli with an amused expression. “Does it beat the time we found you in the cloak room of that one club? No one even knew how you'd gotten in there.” He asked, remembering the night well and remembering Allela's annoyed temperament from not being able to find Eli until after they had essentially given up. It had been a great night and Gray had found it even funnier when the pink haired Scot had tried to interrogate the clueless artist on the way home. It wasn't really a night out unless someone got lost and confused along the way.
One thing that Gray was thankful of after meeting the likes of Allela was that he could hold his alcohol. It took quite a bit to have the Kiwi slurring, staggering and bordering on passing out which meant those things only usually happened at the end of the night. Gray didn't understand how lightweights supported themselves through the night or even why their friends tolerated the heavy drinking so early; it was the friends who had to deal with the mess! As much as Gray loved the people he had met in New York he was one of the last who could be found holding someone's hair back while they regretted every single drink of the night and proclaimed in a slur that they would never touch tequila again. So far he had met no one who could stick to that oath, not even after a two day hangover had them repeating it for another week. “An' I'll close us off.” He requested the same all around before anyone had even touched the next round of shots, but he knew that on nights out like this it usually paid to be prepared. Gulping down Rhi's purchased shot he handed the cash over and then grabbed his next and, temporarily final, shot. “To something none of us give a rat's arse about!” He said, raising the glass slightly before downing the contents in one swift movement.
With the glasses back on the bar they all began debating what drinks to start the night on, since apparently shots didn't class as drinks. It was only when the music playing swiftly changed to something Grayson recognised before even two seconds had passed that he forgot about drinks. “This is my tune!” He shouted, grabbing the hand of the person closest to him, which just so happened to belong to Rhiannon. She wouldn't have the chance to escape if she wanted it, because Gray already had her on the dance floor with him!

Eli didn’t really know what he wanted out of his life just yet. He was only twenty three and still had so much time ahead of him to figure it all out. He knew he loved art and wanted to continue to do that, the rest he could figure out on the way. Eli was already well aware he would never own his own place, especially not in New York, and in all honesty, he wasn’t sure he wanted the stress of it all. He had his plate full with the position he had now with the gallery, adding even the small extra bits that his boss did would have thrown him for a loop. No, he liked where he was, he knew what he was doing and he had quite the freedom to do as he pleased; which was how he could be out at all hours of the night with his friends having a good time and enjoying himself. His boss was still young enough to know what it was like to need these nights out and frequently told Eli to go home early when he knew the artist had plans made. He wasn’t sure how he had lucked out with the job but he was damn glad he had it. Not every boss would be as awesome about life outside of work.
"I'd tell you but then you'd just get jealous." Eli said with a wink. That was still a night Eli hadn’t pieced together further than knowing he had been flirting pretty damn hard with a busty blonde named Allie but that had been at a booth somewhere in the club. The next thing he knew that night though, was that Allela was screaming at him about looking for him for “God only knew how long now” and that she’d just about given up the search when they’d found him in amongst the coats. He didn’t know about them, but he had the distinct feeling that he had enjoyed the forgotten evening. And by the looks of how this night was starting, Eli would put money on this night being close to the same as last. This time however, he was hoping to not be the one missing from the fun for so long they nearly sent out the cavalry. “And to waking up clueless!” Eli added, tossing back first Rhi’s shot then Gray’s before setting each back on the bar.
The young artist was always up for whatever the group decided. He didn’t have a favoured drink, he could throw back almost anything handed to him. And even then he usually had to have quite a few before he really felt anything go down the wrong side of funny. Good with a beer for now, he said as much just before the music the DJ was playing switched gears and had Gray’s mood brightening. Eli laughed watching a wide eyed Rhiannon get dragged onto the dance floor by Gray. The poor girl had no idea what she was getting herself into by being carted off just that way. Shaking his head, he already knew no one would see the pair of them until Gray was good a ready to drag the comic illustrator back out of the crowd again. “And then there were two. Does she know what she's getting herself into with that one?” Eli said, chuckling. He just hoped that sweet, naïve little brunette knew how to handle herself.

Allela was the determined kind of dreamer. She didn't sit about wistfully sighing and dreaming of some far flung future that would only ever exist in her imagination, no. The young Scot dreamt of a million things and would strive to achieve at least most of them. She knew that music would always be a part of her life, but whether she found worldwide fame with it and the band or whether she worked behind the scenes bringing the best kind of the music to the world had yet to be seen. She believed she would be happy with either option, but ultimately it would be wonderful to play to crowds around the globe and then eventually take a quieter life in recording studios, guiding and helping other would-be bands. At twenty years of age and with take two of college underway, she was just taking life as it came. The moment Allela saw an opportunity she would seize it, but until then she thrived on the unknown and the spontaneous and that was usually why the group ended up on these crazy nights out.
Rolling her eyes at the two guys in her company, Allela leaned back with her elbows on the bar. She could have given up Eli's answer in a moment, and done the same with several of Gray's stories too, but she wouldn't. At least not yet; give them both a bit of time to piss her off and then every dirty little secret she could use might come out to play for their entertainment. “I told yoo, it happens again an' I'm puttin' yoo on one o' those child harness things.” She threatened, although she would seriously show up with one when she got sick of playing “find the drunk” on these sort of nights out. It often interrupted her hunt for food and once or twice she had started sobering up long before she found her bed because of the delay. The two things she hated most about the ending of a night out. Any way she could avoid it and she would. “I'm pretty sure that happens without the alcohol.” Allela shrugged with a whisper of her usual troublesome smirk before knocking back the shots easily. It would take quite a few more rounds to have her staggering and stumbling through the crowds.
Allela knew that it was only a matter of time before Grayson kicked into gear and someone was dragged off to keep him company. It happened most of the time when they went out and in the moment she saw his expression change she knew that this was it. The second later when he claimed Rhiannon as his dance buddy though, Allela almost burst into laughter. If they ever saw the pair again before midnight it would be some kind of miracle. Order two bottles of beer she handed one to Eli and then grinned mischievously. “Why do yoo think I invited them both along on the same night out?” She asked, trying to play it innocent but with her grin giving away the devilish plan. Allela adored all of her friends, but she was curious. She was intrigued to see how well Grayson and Rhiannon played together. “So, now the rules; no runnin' off wi' chesty blondes tonight. At least not until one o' those two surface.” She teased Eli, bringing her bottle to her lips and chugging back some of the beer inside. Sometimes it was just too easy to tease and torment her friends and Allela never missed an opportunity to do so.

There was never a night out with Allela that Rhi found dull in any way. There were always laughs and always drinks on hand. And it was far too easy to get caught up in the music and the fun while the hours just flew by. She might not remember half the nights they went out but she always woke up knowing they’d had a damn good time the night before. The only issues she ever had were the dozens of text messages from her brother she found in the morning. He knew she was out with Allela and occasionally Eli as well. She had being watching out for her so he really didn’t need to worry about her but that was the curse of being a baby sister. She would always have her big brother worrying and being concerned about her wellbeing, even when it was obvious she was okay.
It wasn’t like she really ever went anywhere on her own anyway. And when she did, it was usually to pick up supplies or go to her publishers to talk about what was coming next or to hand in her work. If she were going out with someone, generally they showed up at her door because she’d forgotten about their plans. It was actually rare if she met up with her friends somewhere because she was always so engrossed in her work that the time got away from her. With Allela at least, she wasn’t allowed to even think about work before the cotton candy haired Scot was all over her with shots until she forgot. She hadn’t been out with them for the night they were talking about. Chances that she was working were high but she remembered the invite and had to decline because she had one of those unfortunate family events to attend. She had hated the entire night and had only made it through thanks to the flutes of champagne floating through the room discreetly and the people she knew that she could stand to be around for more than thirty seconds at a time. She remembered thinking the entire night she wished she’d been able to go out with her friends, there was always fun with Allela and there was hardly any with her society thing.
Rhi did laugh at the image of Eli getting lost but there wasn’t anything she could say other than “wish I was there” and that just sounded pouty. She downed the shots handed to her and was with the group contemplating drinks when the music changed and someone snatched her hand up. Wide eyed, she looked up at Grayson with something close to fear mixed with confusion in her eyes before turning to look back at Allela and Eli though they were already lost behind the crowd on the dance floor; her safe zone had disappeared for the time being. "Oh, but I," She started, trying to point behind them even as Grayson dragged her forward. Letting go of a rather deep sigh, she gave up and followed him instead of stumbling behind. It was only one dance, what harm could come of it? When it was done, she could go back to the bar, order a couple shots and a drink and continue the party.

Gray had been making his way into bars and spending nights at parties long before he came to New York. He was one for those late night antics, waking up on the beach and usually with Sharpie on his face and bar stamps on his hands. The only difference since he made the move was that he preferred to wake up somewhere indoors now! New York did not share the New Zealand climate he had grown up with and it definitely didn't have the same friendly locals who were laid back and chilled about almost everything. He hadn't even met anyone who really fitted the type he was accustomed to knowing from back home, but Gray was friendly enough that he'd speak to anyone and try to strike up a decent conversation or find himself a new friend. Music had brought him to Allela and then from there he had met Eli and now Rhi. He enjoyed how those things had worked out, even if it did mean that there would be more nights out than made sense now.
Grayson didn't mind that though. He had always taken a lax approach to his education before university and now he just chose subjects he was passionate about so that he didn't mind putting the extra work in. The only trouble was around deadlines and with Allela not exactly the kind of girl to take no for an answer, there had been parties followed by all-nighters followed by parties. Grayson had slept for a whole weekend at one point to try and bounce back from it, even missing a shift in work which he managed to play off as being violently sick. His manager hadn't asked questions once he implied that and everything was fine. He just never wanted to repeat that scenario again. It was fun, but exhausting and he was certain that for two days he was a certified zombie who was lucky to even be alive with how little attention he had paid to the world around him.
He did have a habit of falling into his own element at parties and clubs. It often did mean that he ended up away from the group either doing something ridiculous or tormenting someone he had come out with. Most nights ended with him finding a flurry of “where are you” messages on his phone from friends who had searched high and low for him, but hadn't been able to find him. It wasn't so bad in New York since he had known fewer people, but it still happened and it looked like tonight would be one of those nights too, whether people wanted it to be or not. Right now Rhi would probably be his prisoner until they were either dug out of the crowd by Eli and Allela or until something happened to send then both back in the direction of the bar. Gray was not a guy who needed a lot of alcohol to have a crazy time though, so he wouldn't be heading back the second his glass was empty or his bottle gone. “Come on, dance. Show us what you got!” He grinned like a madman, grabbing Rhi's hands and pulling them up in the air. Gray wasn't afraid to make a total fool of himself and he was in the habit of keeping company who thought likewise. The song eventually changed to an even better one and he wouldn't let her run from it. Not that she could if she wanted to; the crowd had certainly grown and it would be the Great Escape to try and get back to the bar right now. Anyway, he was certain Allela and Eli could entertain themselves for a while.
