DISLIKES: hospitals, getting sick, being lazy, when her brother worries too much, maths, her check-ups, peanut butter, making promises, running late, having nothing to do, the weight room men, black coffee, hangovers, lying to Leander, maxi dresses, too much take-out food, feeling unhappy, people asking questions about her illness, fishsticks, her hair getting knotty, noisy neighbours, fights, people trying to push her around, sleazy guys, rich snobs, warm nights, falling asleep on the couch, thunderstorms, wasps, warm juice, Coldplay, wearing yellow, her glasses, superstitions, dark chocolate.
FEARS: Her ALL returning, hurting Leander, regretting the life she’s been given a second chance at..
SECRETS: There's a very strong possibility that she can't have kids, due to the treatment she underwent when she was a teenager.
PERSONALITY: One thing that’s almost impossible to miss is Chloe’s athleticism. She loves to keep herself in shape and healthy and whilst diving is her passion, her training takes up a lot of her time and she simply adores how alive it makes her feel. She goes out of her way to fill any spare time with extra activities to help her diving ability, like ballet. She’s energetic and doesn’t like wasting a minute of her time being lazy or procrastinating too much. Like her brother, she’s creative although she’s more skilled with a pencil and sketchpad than with words. Chloe is sweet and hardly has a bad word to say about anyone although she’s not someone who can be pushed about. She didn’t let the ALL beat her and she won’t let anyone else either. She’s determined and once she puts her mind to something then you can pretty much guarantee that she’ll get it done. She’s not as angelic as Leander likes to think, but Chloe is still somewhat innocent and quite the hopeless romantic meaning her heart is easy to break if the wrong guy comes her way. She’s fun loving and always ready for a good time, whether it’s an afternoon shopping or a night dancing in a club, she’s there. She’s a bit of a social butterfly wanting to meet and know as many people as possible. In many ways she’s trying to make up for the years she lost in and out of the hospital which means she can come across as a little over eager at times. She’s tough and who wouldn’t be after what she’d been through? She’s not one to give in and she’ll persevere at anything, even if people don’t believe in her. Most of the time she’s happy-go-lucky with a big smile on her face and an enthusiastic attitude to pretty much anything. Her time in hospital and the way she was sort of sheltered by her family does give her a slight naivety now that she’s out on her own, but in other areas she’s mature; the same thing meant she had to grow up and contemplate things most teenagers didn’t, like death. She’s open about a lot of her past, even if she doesn’t enjoy chatting away about it.

HISTORY: William and Grace thought it was a miracle that they had finally been blessed with Leander, so when Chloe came along it probably seemed too good to be true, yet there she was; a bundle of dark hair and big eyes to complete their little family. One thing Chloe gives thanks for more than anything else in the world is the closeness of her big brother and even if his over-protectiveness was annoying at times, she’d never change a single thing about him. He made her childhood in so many ways.
As a young child, Chloe was always very active. She’d run around the yard chasing Leander and her friends or she’d be begging to go swimming. Chloe loved the water and swimming was something she could do endlessly without ever getting bored. She longed to dive in one day from the platforms, but she was too young to even think about climbing up on one back then. At school, she kept up this sporty trait and took part in as many sports as she could, eager to try them all. She hated having to sit still and the only thing that could keep her entertained on a rainy day was a sketchpad and a pencil. Everything else didn’t matter to little Chloe other than her sports, her family and her art. They may not have come from a rich family, but she was happy and an old pair of sneakers was enough to keep her racing the other kids across the schoolyard and if she got to swim once or twice a week then she could happily walk about with a smile on her face.
With high school quickly approaching, Chloe could barely contain her excitement. She kept talking about what sports she wanted to take up the most, asking Leander for his opinion all the time, despite her own mind changing almost every week. However, the try-out period was barely over when Chloe started to feel really sick. She was tired all the time and whilst it might have been simply from pushing herself too hard, it only grew worse and she struggled to run even 100m without feeling out of breath and dizzy. Colds, stomach bugs and other usually minor conditions came one after the other and soon it was time to seek serious medical help. It was only after blood tests and other prods and pokes from several doctors that they were finally able to diagnose Chloe with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. Suddenly her life became limited to a hospital bed and the ward she was kept on. Treatment began at once and the athletic young girl seemed to vanish as the intensity of the treatment left her exhausted and nothing more than a shadow of her former self. The disease had been caught early on, the doctors said, so her prognosis looked good, but there was no getting their hopes up just yet. It was going to be a long, long battle ahead and even when she was discharged from the hospital she spent days just in her bedroom, too weak for school or anything else. When she started losing her hair, Chloe became even less like the girl she had once been, even when she did have the wig to make it okay for her to leave the house. During this time there were no photographs allowed, no parties and barely any time spent with those who were not her close family. She hated how her family worked harder just to pay for her care and she loathed feeling so guilty, especially when Leander got sick. She hated every single part of those years, from the fake hair, to the bag of drugs that was attached to her body for most of it. It was more than the stuff of nightmares ever could be. When she was at home, she felt odd and hated the people who stared at her or who asked questions and she was forever staring at the clock or checking the levels of the Central line. At the hospital it seemed to be a constant relay of drips and bags of blood whilst she lay staring at the ceiling for hours, wishing this would all be over. It wasn’t the teenage years she had dreamt about at all.
Eventually, there was a silver lining. The treatment was working and Chloe began to get her strength back again. It was still a tough time, but she could swim once a week again and felt up to working on the schoolwork she had fallen so far behind it. It was hardly surprising that she wouldn’t graduate with the rest of her class, but Chloe didn’t mind holding back a year so long as it meant she was healthy again. Still, the day she got told that the battle was mostly over, she could’ve cried. There would still be check-ups and blood tests for several years and there was no promise that the ALL would never return, but she was out of the woods for now.
Finally, she could get her life back on track again. She returned to school and even worked her way onto the swim/dive team and made a reserve on the volleyball team. She worked hard, her hair began to grow back and finally she could smile again without forcing it for those around her. Chloe may have graduated a year after her original classmates and at the age of nineteen, but she had never actually been happier.
She stayed living with her parents and took a job at the Hard Rock Café to help earn her keep. She felt awful making them work so hard to get her well again and now refused to live off them anymore. She paid for her own food and anything she needed, all the while saving up to one day go to college. She didn’t go straight away because she wanted to make up living for those years she had lost. Her life and her sports remained important to her and when she wasn’t working she would be in the pool or running through the park, occasionally meeting up with her old teammates for a training session or friendly game. She had a second chance at life and she wasn’t going to waste it!
Two years later and she had an offer for a place in college in her home city. Moving away had never been in her plans and she still had hospital check-ups to attend every few months. Her love of diving and her dedication to the sport earned her a position on the diving team and Chloe began her studies into art and design, still with no real career ambition in mind, but with the knowledge that she was good at it and that she didn’t want to waste her life doing something she struggled with or hated just because it would earn her more money someday. She’s still as close as can be to Leander and his wife-to-be, using Jack as her excuse to run wild sometimes without her protective older brother knowing about it. She’s just moved into a place of her own, converting the small box room into a tiny studio for her art and still living her life with barely a pause for breath.
