PERSONALITY: Chase is very independent. He likes to do everything by himself and has done ever since he was very young. He’s the guy who puts logic over his feelings and he finds it difficult to talk about his emotions, sometimes making people perceive him as guarded, which would be partially right. He’s scared of letting people in from fear of rejection and being unwanted. He’s quite the protector which may come slightly with the job, but also branches back to his youth and the fire that destroyed his home. He’s composed and calm under almost all situations and isn’t one for violence, though if there is no other way out, he will attempt to do something. Chase is smart and puts it to good use not only in his profession, but in everyday life too, though people see this at times with an unfavourable quality. Socially, he’s polite and open to conversing with almost anyone, but he lacks certain skills when it comes to the likes of flirting and romance, but that’s not to say that he won’t try, it just may not always work out the way he thinks it will. He’s relaxed to a certain extent, but there’s always an air of seriousness about his character that he finds difficult to shake off. He’s not the funniest guy in the world and humour can sometimes be lost on the intern. He’s a little quiet, but only because he hates hearing himself rambling and he doesn’t like the loud noises of the busy night clubs of desperation, opting for the quieter bars in the city. He’s peaceful and not usually the kind of guy to hold a grudge, and if he does offend, it doesn’t take him long to apologise. Chase may not be the most emotional person out there, but he’s caring and loves helping others around him; friend or stranger.

HISTORY: Before Chase was even born, he was being given up. His biological parents were in college, terrified of parenthood and eager for adoption, which was how his adoptive parents, William and Abigail, found themselves with a son. They were keen to adopt the child who they named Chase Logan McMahon because Abigail couldn’t conceive naturally, and adoption was the easiest of the options, as well as providing the then young William McMahon with some positive publicity for his political career.
His childhood consisted of a lot of nannies and strangers treating him with sympathy and pity, whilst praising his parents for their charitable nature, taking in a child who didn’t have a home. Chase was too young to understand back then, but soon it was explained to him by one of the many nannies, when there was talk between his parents of giving their son a playmate. Abigail longed for a bigger family and the nannies had commented on Chase’s quiet nature, unsure of whether something could be wrong with the young boy. Soon, another adoption process was in motion and Chase found himself as the older brother to Alicia Katelyn. He enjoyed playing big brother, and despite barely being four, he seemed to understand the responsibilities he had to the newborn baby and would help the nannies as much as he could when they were tending to her.
Abigail, though fond of her family, was not a housewife, and had her own career as a college lecturer, who spent many hours with students in their home, discussing thesis papers and further research in the area she taught; chemistry. Two years later and the final adoption was through and Chase found himself with another sister who looked nothing like him or Alicia, but he was a big brother nevertheless to Jennifer Elizabeth. The family was complete and life continued nicely.
Life was fairly average. The children attended a private school and had tutors to help them where they struggled. Abigail and William did love their children, but always seemed to prioritise their work before their kids, though this was nothing Chase ever held against them; it was what he was brought up with, he knew no different and without them, he would be another unwanted child in some home somewhere.
When Chase was fourteen, he woke in the night screaming in pain. The young boy was rushed to hospital and into surgery after he was diagnosed with appendicitis. It was this stint in hospital that made him want to become a doctor, though his choice to later intern in haematology was all thanks to a rather interesting research journal he read when he was in college. It fascinated him and took him further into the field than he had originally planned on when applying for schools around the country.
Before college, came high school. The teenage years were on the awkward side for Chase. A lot of people knew him, thanks to his father being a rather public figure, and so, they knew that Chase was adopted, which did lead the way for some nasty remark and unnecessary bullying. Chase pulled through it all though and tried not to let it get the best of him. Girlfriends were few and far between and Alicia would tell him that he needed to be more romantic, more charming, both concepts Chase was not. He got through it all though with little drama, high grades and a promising future with pre-med.
The summer before he moved to NYU for college the family vacationed in the Hamptons and Chase was woken in the night by thick smoke and an intense heat. An electrical fire had started in the kitchen and spread, a faulty smoke detector failing to alert the sleeping family to the drama unfolding. The flames were already lapping at his bedroom door and he panicked, using the adjoining bathroom to reach Alicia’s room that she shared with Jennifer at their summer home. His sisters were freaking out, the flames already dancing under their closed door, but Chase forced them to the window and managed to help them climb down to the yard below, just as sirens sounded in the distance. The flames had spread faster than he anticipated and the heat was burning as he lowered Jennifer to the flowerbed below, instructing her on how to cushion her fall so that she didn’t break any bones. He heard the voices of his parents outside, relieved they made it out, but was froze to the spot, the fire’s closeness terrifying him more than words could say. He stood by the open window, coughing and panicking as the flames grew closer and bigger. Finally, after screams of his sisters and his name echoing in the night air, Chase practically threw himself from the window, landing awkwardly on the grass below, coughing, spluttering and crying out in pain as his ankle twisted beneath him, the bone breaking.
No one ever plans on starting college on crutches, still with a cough or a cast on their leg, but it happened to Chase. He was just happy to be alive, but that night left him with a terrifying fear of fire that he shares with no one. New York was full of promise and he worked hard to race through college and post grad before securing himself an internship at the hospital with the haematology department. Socially, he didn’t party like the others did, and he wasn’t known by all of his classmates. He was too ‘serious’ claimed one girl who he briefly dated, but he didn’t let such comments affect him. Of course he was serious; this was his future!
The new guy at the hospital, Chase is working through his internship with flying colours, pulling the long shifts with ease now, knowing that somehow he is helping people, changing and saving lives with his study of the blood.
