PERSONALITY: Once upon a time Gideon could have been described as an arrogant, ignorant little jackass with more money than brains. But things change, people grow up and Gideon was no exception. He had wanted for nothing growing up, coming from one of those families where even the help had a “company” credit card. He was a brat in every sense of the word. When he was younger, he was a sweet kid but the money went to his head and he really didn’t give a damn. He was, still is a spoiled child, even at twenty five but he mostly grew out of it. Gideon still has that arrogant streak in him and he isn’t always the best with social cues. He’s an athletic man, at least he likes to say he is, whether or not he actually works out is another thing. He’s a bit of a workaholic often finding himself waking up at his desk at the antiquities shop and auction house. He’s been through school once before and has already spent a few years being a traveller. He’s good at research, loves a challenge and won’t back away from a fight, even if he doesn’t look like he could do much damage. Gideon, like all men, even the ones that say they don’t, has a particularly nasty temper. It may only surface so rarely he can claim it’s nonexistent but as some high school buddies know, it is very, very much real and quite frankly, a little scary to witness. He’s trying though and that’s all that can be asked of him. A tiger can’t change its stripes after all. He’s a self-proclaimed nerd with a love for Superman and video games.MOTHER: Melissa Farraday & 49.

HISTORY: Gideon was born into a family that could trace its lineage for centuries and centuries. The family had money, always had though eventually, no one quite knows when exactly but, eventually the antique shop was opened. Years later, this story was passed down the line from parent to child as a bedtime story. Somewhere in the late nineteenth century, some three or so generations before Kenneth was born, a generation of five sons and a daughter decided it was time to expand from London to international waters. The daughter chose to stay in London and take over that shop when the time came while three brothers chose to continue the exploration and collection of fine pieces. Two brothers left, one chose New York while the other settled on Athens to set up shops.
Fast forward a few years and Kenneth Farraday was born in the heat of summer. He grew up listening to the tales of the trade and especially Farraday Antiquities itself. The New York elite knew the tale; anyone with old money had a tale about Farraday’s. Some were good, others were down right ridiculous but they always returned to Farraday’s to pick up their next piece of fifteenth century art. Kenneth used the tales both truth and fantasy to swing a date with Melissa Yustman. A few dates, a vase from the Ming Dynasty and a necklace older than the country they lived, Kenneth stole Melissa’s heart. He brought her along to a family Christmas where his grandmother took him aside, gave him her ring and had to swear he would propose before the next Christmas. He hadn’t even made it the end of the trip before he was down on one knee, offering his grandmother’s ring and the rest of his life and all the love he had in him to her.
She said yes and once the family was told, they all seemed to go immediately into planning mode. A couple years later, they were exchanging their vows and dancing off towards their honeymoon. Barely six months after the wedding, they were sharing the good news; Melissa was pregnant. And five months later, Gideon Malcolm Farraday was brought into the world. Now Gideon grew up with the same stories as his father and those before him. He was always going to follow in the footsteps of his family. He grew up around the shop and the auction house. There were a few years there where friends were more important than family but everyone went through that stage. He had money, he had privilege and for a while, he flaunted both. He was seventeen when he really settled down again. There was a break in at their house. Gideon was in the Bahamas with his friends, his mother was out for one of her girl’s nights with her sorority sisters and his father was home alone, enjoying one of those rare nights where his wife and children were away. Gideon’s sister, born one day shy of exactly thirteen months was at her friend’s house, allegedly studying for some English test but both parents knew they were sitting around gossiping and acting like teenage girls.
His father wasn’t harmed; in fact, he pulled a gun on the intruder before calling the police though he did not pull the trigger. The man was arrested and all was good but it opened Gideon’s eyes when he returned and found out what had happened, what could have happened. He didn’t completely turn his back on his friends and that money buys all lifestyle he’d gotten himself accustomed to but he did cut back on the frivolous things. Life continued and Gideon forced himself to get his grades back up to an acceptable level and continued on to study business. After graduation, he took some time to travel on the business dime, collecting pieces here and there at auctions and estate sales. He took some time to help out around Farraday’s Greek house. It was while he was there that he really, truly realised that he didn’t know as much as he previously thought about his family business, and what he knew was extensive. So Gideon said good-bye to his family there, packed up and headed back home to New York where he enrolled in school again. At twenty five, he’s a freshman again, this time studying fine art at NYU and hoping to really prove his worth with the family business, even though he’d been working there basically his entire life.
