DISLIKES: feeling grimy, greasy fries, trying to follow sports, flies, long distance flights, public restrooms, out of control parties, being stuck in the middle of a crowd, gory movies, romantic pressures, liars, people playing games, family gatherings, the feeling of sand, overhyped dramas, ridiculously loud music, spam e-mail, obnoxious people, large dogs.
FEARS: rats, amounting to nothing, being burgled..
SECRETS: He often goes to movies alone. He prefers to see them for the first time without someone babbling down his ear. Cody never mentions it to people because they either take it offensively or they insist on tagging along with him, which defeats his own point in going. He’ll see it for a second time with friends, but a film he’s never seen before is something he enjoys by himself.
PERSONALITY: Cody could easily be described as more of a loner. He’s not big on parties or large social gatherings and much prefers to spend time with his few closest friends and then taking some time for himself. He’s not someone who will meltdown if he spends a week or so with himself for company. He’s a bit of a clean freak and a germaphobe, carrying hand sanitizer on his person and usually cleaning his apartment several times a week. Cody likes things to be neat and clean, hates the feeling or dirt, sand or dust. He’s quiet but witty, often harbouring a dry sense of humour that can make him seem rude to people who don’t know him that well. He’s intelligent, but the kind that’s full of useless chatter that is probably unnecessary unless he’s part of a quiz team. Cody is academic and loves learning new things, even if they are completely irrelevant to his course. Artistic, Cody aspires to be an architect someday and most of the time you’ll catch him sketching in his pad when he has the time to kill or he’s bored. He doesn’t mean to ignore people, but Cody is often stuck in his own little bubble and doesn’t pay much attention to the people around him. He’s patient but he won’t waste his time on people who are playing games or causing drama. Cody is realistic and doesn’t pin his hopes on silly fantasies or wishes. If his sarcasm or comments land him in trouble, Cody usually ends up taking a hit before scrambling away from it all. He’s not a fighter by any means, regardless of the situation or the problem. As for romance, he might have dated before, but Cody doesn’t like the pressures of living up to some of the ideals of romance. He prefers to be his slightly quirky and awkward self rather than trying to be some Prince Charming.

HISTORY: Max and Laura always knew that they wanted a large family. Even before they met and fell in love they wanted the crowded dinner table, shambolic holidays and everything else that came from having a small army of children. Then, introduced by friends at a birthday party, they found each other and the missing piece they had been searching for. Both of them were hopeless romantics with several similar passions. They were married a few years after that fateful night and then the children started coming along. Whenever someone thought they might call a day on their little brood, Laura would announce another pregnancy and this happened eight times in total before finally a lack of room and the cost of raising such a family drew the line for them.
Cody was the final child born into the Keaton family. With seven other loud voices and distinct personalities all coming before him, it was no wonder that as a little boy he enjoyed spending time on his own; it was a rare thing in their home. His childhood was hectic, just like the lives of the rest of his family. The morning saw the children in school rushing off left, right and centre with different lunches, homework and gym bags usually littering the hall first thing. They were a pretty well-known family since every Keaton child progressed through the same schools as the one before it and Cody was hardly surprised when it came to his turn and the teachers were already familiar with most, if not all, of his older siblings. Looking back, he was pretty certain he saw a relieved expression cross their faces when he told them that he was the youngest, as though they were finally glad that the line had come to an end for now.
He did feel overshadowed by his siblings. Laura and Max loved their children, but it was a challenge to divide their attention between all of them when there was always someone bursting through the door with a crisis or exciting news about their day at school. The house was rarely ever a quiet place to be and Cody has no idea how his parents managed to stay sane through those years. His own salvation came in the form of sketching. There were a few abandoned buildings and rail tracks within walking distance from his house, so he would often take a pad and a box of pencils and head out to one of them and sketch the scenery there. He appreciated how quiet it was and he was only ever disturbed by the few locals who, at first, didn’t know who he was or what he was up to. Over time, they became more aware of the young boy who would frequently appear and just sit there, drawing for hours until the alarm he had reminded him that it was time to go home for dinner.
In school, Cody made pretty good grades. He was one of the more studious Keatons who enjoyed reading ahead in the textbooks. His passion remained in sketching the buildings rather than in other subjects, but he did have teachers trying to persuade him into continuing with their studies once high school was over. Cody had planned to be an architect since he was a little kid and saw a programme on the profession, but it was a dream he had kept mostly to himself over the years. He had watched his other siblings move on after high school, some taking the college route and others chasing various other dreams. They were all doing pretty well and the house was finally quietening down with each Keaton who moved out. Cody liked being able to have his own room and not have someone barging in with friends or their drama in tow. He had friends of his own, but his social life might be described by some as lacking. He didn’t hit up the parties on the weekends, or stay out ridiculously late just to cause trouble somewhere…in fact, he preferred hanging out for a few hours with his friends and then going off on his own to have some alone time and sketch or read. He didn’t have the greatest of skills when it came to romance either and the one girl he did date eventually broke up with him after a few months because of how he seemed to rarely pay any attention to her; a mistake many people had made about Cody over the years.
When it came the time for picking colleges, Cody opted to head to New York. He wanted to study architecture and wanted a city where there were a wide variety of designs and styles for him to see and attempt to draw. Obviously there would be more to it than drawing old buildings, but Cody still found it a therapeutic hobby that put his mind at ease and helped him find some calm in the chaos. He made the move with a few of his siblings to help him with the settling in process. There was a small rented apartment with his name on and a spare box room that could just fit a sofa bed in. It came in handy since his brothers and sister habitually showed up on his doorstep with no prior warning and told him of their plans to stay for a few days. Usually his brothers came for something sport related and his sisters for a concert or shopping. He didn’t mind, but he didn’t let them slow his life down either.
His freshman year almost breezed by and he made one or two new good friends, got a job to help make ends meet and settled in to his New York life. Cody loved being on his own for the first time and the silence was something he appreciated most of all. His sister Brittany bought him Thor and Loki on one of her visits so that he had “something to keep him company”. He headed back home for all the holidays and the birthdays, but there was a sense of relief that came with saying goodbye to them all and retreating to the almost silent apartment that was completely his.
