HAYDEN OCTAVIA WYLDE
FULL NAME: Hayden Octavia Wylde.
NICKNAMES: Some people call her Hay, but she honestly just prefers her full name.
AGE: twenty-four
GENDER: female
SEXUALITY: straight.
STATUS: single.
GROUP: student.
GRADE: senior.
MAJOR: Sociology.
JOB OCCUPATION: Java Stop barista.HAIR: Blonde, shoulder length or grown out longer. Usually worn neat or with that beach bunny vibe to it.
EYES: Brown.
SCARS/BIRTHMARKS: She has three jagged scars on her torso from the attack. They still look nasty and they're far from healed and the reason why you won't catch Hayden in any too-revealing outfit any time in the future. She's far too self-conscious about them for that.
TATTOOS: None, but she does like a guy with tatoos.
PIERCINGS: Just her ears the once.
PLAY-BY: Maggie Grace!LIKES: reading, blankets, fire pits, surfing, dancing, walk in wardrobes, feeling safe, mint thins, romantic movies, monkeys, orchids, snowglobes, Pepsi, cats, nice restaurants, the colour red, trips to the salon, menthol scent, cleaning, scented candles, Mexican food, open water, diving, yoga classes, men's shirts, dresses and skirts, red wine, gardens, fairy lights, pyjamas, bubble baths.
DISLIKES: night terrors, feeling scared, walking home in the dark, silence, feeling clingy, bats, hospitals, her medicine cabinet, summer, the scars, lipstick on her teeth, bad photographs, feeling tired, jealousy, steak, wasps, horror movies, the news, dry clean only clothes, bad weather, power cuts, chest infections, knotted necklaces, difficult puzzles, sleazy guys, blind dates.
FEARS: Being attacked again, bats, never moving on from what happened.
SECRETS: Hayden wishes she could keep the attack secret, but she had too many friends at the time and it made too many headlines. Instead she remains secretive about the medication she ended up on since then. Sleeping pills, anxiety medication, pain medication...it's not exactly something she enjoys needing, but it's been the only way she can act like she lives a normal life. Without them she'd be a worse wreck, but at the same time she's scared of becoming reliant on them.
PERSONALITY: Hayden is a kind young woman who always tosses her change into the charity bucket and who will always help someone out, even if it's just giving up her seat on the subway. She's jumpy these days, ever since her attack and has lost quite a lot of the confidence she had before. Scared and she hates it, Hayden can't help finding that too many things go bump in the night now and she doesn't enjoy that she's becoming somewhat reliant on others. She's strong in many ways, but doesn't believe this about herself.Self-conscious, she keeps to herself and keeps her head down as best as she can. She's not the kid who asks questions in class and she's not going to be the girl who makes the dramatic entrance on a night out. She wears her heart on her sleeve and can be quite the emotional person even if it's just crying at a movie or feeling overwhelming pride for a friend or family member. Hayden is a sweet girl who doesn't have a cruel bone in her body and who can't really understand why some people thrive on hurting others. She's active but not for the over kill. Hayden enjoys her yoga, dancing and surfing, but she's not going to freak out if she misses a week here and there. Hayden isn't one for confrontations, but recent events have made her more defensive and want to invest some time in learning how to defend herself physically. Otherwise she's the girl who will walk away from a fight even when her temper has flared and she wants to start screaming at someone. In those cases she's likely to end up crying angry tears or just spending days in a terrible mood. She was born with a big heart but now it's kept padlocked away and still rests in fragile pieces. She's a romantic who loved the idea of date nights and couply things, but in light of her history she's now wary and very distant when guys might show an interest in her. Hayden doesn't want to rush into anything and is probably shying away from the love department right now, but she still wants to have that happy ending someday.MOTHER: Verity Anne Wylde, 46.
FATHER: Ritchie Clyde Wylde, 47.
SIBLINGS: N/A.
OTHERS: Michael Carpenter, 26, ex-boyfriend.
PETS: Cleo, a Siamese kitten!
HOMETOWN: Avalon, California.
HISTORY: Verity and Ritchie were the kids who grew up together, but who never noticed each other. They went to the same school and lived only a few streets apart, but ask Verity if she knew Ritchie and she would honestly say no. He was the quiet kid at the back of the class while she was the one who had the friends around her and the newest gear that was in trend. It was only during their senior year of high school that their paths finally crossed. While organising the prom with the rest of the committee and in the running for Prom Queen, she stumbled across Ritchie in the AV room prepping the camera equipment for the event. Their first meeting was brief, but Verity remembered him and was amazed when she stepped onto the college campus and saw Ritchie there too. They were both attending the same college and having to start from scratch again, they became friends but a spark between them turned it into more. She had a diamond on her finger at the start of their senior year and discovered she was pregnant not too long after their graduation.
Their first and only child was Hayden. They talked about giving her a brother or sister but ultimately it never happened and they weren't all that upset by it either. They were happy with their daughter and gave her everything she could ever want while instilling a sense of morals and manners into their little princess. Hayden was a good girl who liked to dance about the house in a tutu and play make-believe about princes being transformed from frogs. She took dance classes from the age of four and also developed a love for the ocean since she lived in a townhouse overlooking it. When she was old enough and had proven herself a strong swimmer Ritchie put her on a board for the first time and she took to the water well. Hayden was a happy girl who got on well with everyone she met, who didn't cave to peer pressure and who was essentially the perfect girl next door by the time she wound up in high school.
She made decent grades, worked hard in class and had good friends. Hayden wasn't one of the most popular girls in her class, but she was up there. She went out with her friends all the time, was on the beach whenever she could get out there to surf, and went on a few dates with the boys in her class who she developed an interest in. If Hayden ever did anything wild then she only did it once and usually told her parents about what had happened. She was a mature teenager in many ways and her close relationship with her mother and father meant that they were more inclined to trust her when she asked them to extend her curfew for one reason or another.
It was that same trust that had them feeling confident when Hayden told them of her plans to move to New York City for her college education. Having taken a year and a half out to teach surfing lessons at one of the resort branches on Avalon, Hayden felt it was time to move on. She wanted to head out there and get the chance to live on the opposite coast for a while. So she enrolled at NYU when she was accepted and began that new chapter in her life. It was during her sophomore year that she met Michael Carpenter. He was a smooth talking senior who she ran into during a night out at the campus bar. A few casual dates later and they were officially together. His friends joked that he was under her thumb and hers teased her about the loved up expression she always wore on her face. In the beginning it was all fantastic and great. However, as Hayden entered her junior year and Michael took up a job in a small store things began to change. He wanted to spend more time with her, ignoring the fact that she had college work to do and a life that existed away from him. Before the Halloween she decided that they needed to take a break and it was something Michael didn't take too well. He would wait outside of her apartment to try to talk sense into her, leave countless voicemails on her phone and even follow her when she was out with friends. Ultimately this led to Hayden going to the police, complaining each time that he was still hounding her but very little happened. They suggested filing a restraining order, but otherwise did very little to reassure her.
Eventually she did file the paperwork for a restraining order after it became apparent that Michael had been in her apartment when she was using the laundry facilities in the basement of her building. However this only worked to infuriate Michael. One night when Hayden had been working late at the university library he waited for her outside. It was dark, the closing weeks of winter and Hayden was exhausted and stressed. She didn't see him until it was too late and as she threatened to call the police, grabbing her phone and dialling the number, Michael snapped. He attacked her, first with his hands and then with a knife he had brought to threaten her with. Hayden screamed for help, but the last thing she remembers is hitting the ground and trying to reach to where she had dropped her phone. After that it was all a blur until she woke up in the hospital two days later.
The attack had left Hayden with three ugly scars across her ribs and stomach, plenty of psychological damage and some nasty bruising. She remained in hospital for a week, recovering, being stitched up and having the nightmares about the attack. The NYPD had caught Michael before he could hurt Hayden any more, but the details were still fuzzy to her and she always felt like she wasn't being told the whole story for some reason. Doctors reminded her that she was probably just stressed and paranoid since the attack. Her parents came and wanted Hayden to return home with them, but Hayden wanted to finish her schooling in the city, even if she felt like a total wreck and so unsure of herself. After a few weeks she shooed her parents home, but Hayden was not the girl she had once been.
Michael was going in front of a judge and jury, but Hayden was informed that there was a strong chance that his lawyers would play the insanity card and try to get him a reduced sentence. It pushed her over the edge and doctors ended up prescribing a cocktail of medication to try and keep Hayden functioning through it all. She also wound up with the contact details for one of the detectives who she had met through this ordeal; Oliver Wolfe. He told her to call whenever she felt scared or worried and it was something Hayden did make great use of even though she felt guilty every time that she dialled his number only to have him rush to her aid and find out that she'd left a window ajar or something. In truth Hayden didn't know what she would do without him on speed-dial.
It's been close to six months since the attack, but Hayden is far from being out of the woods. She's still suffering, but trying to push through to get her life back on track. She still calls Oli more than she probably should and relies on him when things go bump in the night, but she's afraid she might be getting too comfortable with him playing knight in shining armour. She's in her senior year at NYU, but there's a significant difference in Hayden now and even when she tries to push herself out there she feels herself falling back on the safety net that is solitude, a ridiculously extensive security system and the cell number of an NYPD Detective.
