HUNTER GABLE OLDBURY
FULL NAME: Hunter Gable Oldbury.
NICKNAMES: None really. People might holler his last name from time to time, but that's it.
AGE: Twenty-eight.
GENDER: Male
SEXUALITY: Straight.
STATUS: Single.
GROUP: Citizen.
GRADE: N/A
MAJOR: N/A.
JOB OCCUPATION: Photographer for the New Yorker.
HAIR: Brown, on the longer side of short when it is cut, but sometimes ends up longer. It's usually not the tidiest thing about Hunter, but then he doesn't really care about it all that much.
EYES: Brown.
SCARS/BIRTHMARKS: None with any great stories behind them. There's one on his chest from heart surgery.
TATTOOS: There's one on his right shoulder/bicep. A decorated skull with butterflies and swirls around it. It's in the style of Dias De Los Muertos. “Don't go where the path may lead you, but instead go where there is no path and leave a trail behind you.” on the inside of his left bicep with some small flowers surrounding it. Finally, on his right bicep there is a Japanese phrase that he doesn't reveal to anyone, but will only admit that he got it done during a trip to the country when he was nineteen.
PIERCINGS: None these days. He had his ear pierced when it was cool, but that seems like a really long time ago.
PLAY-BY: Eric Balfour!
LIKES: powdered doughnuts, dark rooms, bars of any kind, the open water, grape soda, Pokemon, Asia, warm climates, sailing, early mornings, beach walks, tacos, banoffee pie, Renaissance Faires, quiz shows, cameras, squid, chillies, getting a good scoop, pulls ups, late night take out, psychological horror movies, naval history, abandoned places, springtime, early morning rainfall, cheesy fries.
DISLIKES: sprinkled doughnuts, flying, waking up near lunchtime, the circus, fake merchandise, the taste of mouthwash, dentists, surveillance, stormy nights, beef stroganoff, public rest-rooms, cemeteries, microwave meals, fishsticks, fireworks, salad garnish, feeling emotional, stomach viruses, guns, chicken soup, bad take-out, nosebleeds, difficult people, petty drama, reality TV, sandals, eels.
FEARS: Eels, flying, the circus.
SECRETS: He's never told anyone about the fact that during his first trip to China he almost got arrested for arms dealing. He didn't actually do anything wrong, but he was in the wrong place at the wrong time and his limited knowledge of Mandarin actually made matters worse rather than better. A misunderstanding Hunter is not a fan of thinking about, let alone talking.
PERSONALITY: Hunter is a free kind of guy. He likes being able to do what he likes, when he likes. He also likes to see the beauty in everything. He's cheeky and quite a bit of a joker. Sometimes it earns him a slap in the face, other times it works in his favour. He's educated and likes to learn more about the world and the cultures out there. An artist with a camera, Hunter loves to take photographs and not just for work either. He's a nature lover who really loves being outdoors in the world rather than keeping himself cooped up inside. A fan of the simple things, Hunter likes to think he finds pleasure in the things others take for granted. He's capable and usually the last person to freak out under pressure; able to maintain a calm composure unless it's something extremely personal or threatening to himself. Cheerful, it usually takes a lot to knock Hunter down and when that does happen he tends to keep to himself in solitude. He's efficient and eco-friendly purely because he finds it cheaper and more therapeutic. Perceptive and some times a magnet for trouble Hunter likes to do exactly what his name implies; hunt. He enjoys the chase for information or truth and has on occasion played a risky part in finding answers. Some might call him careless for it at times, but Hunter believes he doesn't take on anything that he can't handle himself. Boyish and with a habit of promising the world, peaceful Hunter is definitely a lover rather than a fighter. He might not be the right guy for most girls to settle down with, but he has a big heart and a caring soul deep down.

HISTORY: Laura and Dwight had plans for the perfect little family. They met when Laura came to the Bahamas to work. Dwight was her supervisor at the hotel but soon it turned into more than that. Both of them were originally from Florida, but their jobs kept them in Nassau. When Laura fell pregnant she didn't even realise that was the case. She had shown no medical signs apart from weight gain and feeling a bit more hormonal at times, but she had shrugged most of it off. She even confided in friends about how she was scared that putting on weight might make Dwight look elsewhere for love. She tried to diet but it didn't work for reasons which were later obvious. Her labour came on hard in the middle of a shift when she practically collapsed behind the desk in crippling pain. It was only when one of the older members of staff, a local woman, came down to help that she laughed and declared straight away that the baby was coming. There was little time for confusion and questions, but Dwight held Laura's hand through the shocked, terrified delivery of their son. Hunter was a difficult baby who had several problems after his birth that doctors worked quickly to rectify. Some were minor issues that a short trip in an incubator fixed while others were more serious. Hunter was born with a hole in his heart and ultimately it was concluded that surgery would be the better option for him.
It was for this reason that Laura and Dwight returned to Key West, Florida. Almost instantly after arriving Laura fell ill, pregnant once more but this time with a more stressful pregnancy. Not only did her worry for Hunter affect her health, but she was also a lot worse this time around with morning sickness. Dwight shouldered most of the burden while Laura rested. Their second child, Grace, was extremely healthy and their counted their lucky stars for that. It meant they could focus on Hunter's health without any other concerns on top. Hunter was a sickly, but happy little boy. He was four when doctors operated on him for the first time. The family hoped it would be the only time, but later on more problems arose and Hunter would go into hospital twice more before doctors were happy. Once when he was nine and again at fourteen to close up more holes that had appeared from after the surgeries and with his growing body.
Hunter's relationship with his sister was volatile from the start. At times they could be best friends and in the blink of an eye they could be mortal enemies. It really did go from one extreme to the other in a rather ridiculous fashion. Sometimes they'd pick each other up and have their backs and then at other times they could be the whole reason they fell in the first place. It stayed this way almost permanently no matter how many interventions or lectures they received from their parents.
His love of photography came very young too. It started off with a toy camera his dad gave him when he was in hospital the first time and from there he was the kid who would grab a hold of a camera if there was one laying about. It became a common occurrence for people to get film developed only to find a few random shots in the middle of pets, of bugs or of anything else Hunter found that he wanted to capture on film. When Dwight and Laura finally got married and Hunter was eight, he was given his own camera for the day and a small album to put all of his shots in. However when he told teachers or anyone else that he wanted to take photographs when he was older they often frowned and told him to stop living in some wild fantasy.
Hunter was never a serious kid. He enjoyed games and had a very laid back approach to life. That wasn't to say he wasn't smart. He was very clever and had a love or geography and the cultures around the world. His heart just didn't want to dedicate his life to something academic, but people struggled to understand that for the longest of times. Hunter was still recovering from his final heart surgery when Laura fell ill. Headaches were the first sign, collapsing the second. An inoperable brain tumour stole Laura from her family three days after Hunter's fifteenth birthday. The family were devastated and the loss did little to bring Hunter and Grace together. If anything they became more volatile and more explosive around each other, putting on a front for the sake of their father when it really mattered.
It was a little less than a year later when Dwight was in a terrible car accident. A storm had been setting in and he had been trying to make it home before things peaked, but he got caught in the heavy rain, lost control of his car and skidded off the road. Hunter and Grace were at home when the accident happened, having one of their usual fights over a boy Grace was dating who was in Hunter's classes. With the power out, it took three hours before the news of their father's crash reached them and by then the prognosis was not looking good. Dwight was on life support, deep in a coma but with injuries the doctors didn't think he would recover from. Two weeks later they turned off the machines and let Dwight die. Heartbroken, the brother and sister, now orphans, were relying on each other more than ever.
An aunt took them in. The aunt had never married and was out of town a lot, but she was the closest relative to their home and this way they never have to move schools or start afresh anywhere else. The loss of their parents definitely hit Hunter and Grace hard. Hunter became very aware of the fact that he wouldn't have a lifetime to waste on pointless things. It cemented his desire to become a photographer more than anything else and he started taking more risks, stepping out of his comfort zone to try new things. Grace had a slightly more rebellious reaction. She started acting wild and getting out of control which had Hunter chasing her around the city to drag her back home before she could land herself in too much trouble.
He stayed in Florida for college, too afraid to see what might happen to Grace if he went out of state. He was a few hours from their home, but it was close enough that he could jump in his car and drive to her if she needed him. They might have hated each other for a large portion of their lives, but Grace was still his sister and he didn't want to see anything bad to her. He was in his sophomore year when Grace called him during the middle of class one day. She was hysterical, breaking her heart crying and it took Hunter some time to figure out what was happening. Grace was pregnant. The father kicked her to the curb the moment he found out and she didn't know where else to turn. Hunter promised to help her through everything and he did. He made arrangements to attend all the hospital appointments and the classes with her. He put up with her hormonal outbursts and the outbursts that just came along when he was being a royal jackass. When Grace went into labour it was Hunter who held her hand through it all. A proud uncle, Hunter promised he would do whatever it took to keep Grace and his nephew Kellan happy.
A few years later and a job offer came up. It was based in New York but with the promise of travel. Hunter initially planned to turn it down, but Grace told him differently. She called him a pain in the ass and practically kicked him out of Florida. Their relationship, while closer than ever, was still turbulent. They were too alike for their own good and clashed frequently, hiding their arguments from Kellan when they erupted. Other times they were best friends; it was exactly like it was when they were kids. Hunter moved to New York and through his job got to travel around the globe, experience cultures and countries just like he always wanted. His camera was by his side the whole time and he loved it. There were months when he was based solely in New York for events but then he would be handed a plane ticket and told he was on the next flight out to some new destination. It was a life he loved, a life he still loves and pretty much exactly where he is today.
