PERSONALITY: Mason isn’t the softest man on the planet but he means well. This guy’s life hasn’t exactly been sunshine and daisies so it’s understandable that he can be a little standoff-ish and rude. He doesn’t actually mean to be so tough but raised as he was, letting people get close isn’t really an option. For half his life, he could have sworn his family was cursed! He’s an observant one though, always has his eyes opened and looking at everything around him. Deep down, the man is a sweet guy but it isn’t a side he doesn’t often show; as it not at all. The only ones who even know he has that side are his closest family members. And only they know because they lived with him most of his life. Mason is a pretty athletic guy, having trained in three different martial arts from the time he was five and hardly looks the teacher type. But that’s exactly what he is! And he’s a doctor at that, technically speaking of course. He is certainly not a book you can judge by its cover. Mason here, cares more than he wants people to know. He’s quite the family man, worrying far too much for anyone’s good about them. He’s got a love for all things unconventional would absolutely treat any woman who managed to get past his wall like a queen; they’d deserve it having to deal with him!MOTHER: Nanette Susan Rivers & deceased.

HISTORY: For too much of Mason’s life, he thought his family was cursed. His mother didn’t get to see her son turn ten; his cousin’s mother left them before he was seven. There were too many branches like that filling the family tree. He didn’t even believe it when his father’s other brother visited and told him he’d been married to his wife longer than Mason had been alive and they were still happily together. His own parent’s had put on that show; blissfully happy in front of others while world war three was starting in their kitchen while the moon rose. So to say Mason didn’t grow up in the best surroundings available was probably an understatement. He’d been told too many times after his mother’s death that his parent’s did love each other at one point. But they grew apart and though Mason wasn’t to blame for it, he still had to witness it. Mason took all that he’d seen though and turned it into something he could use.
It wasn’t until a required high school class that he realised what he’d been doing since before his mother’s death could actually be turned into a profession. The study of people was a real thing. Up until then, he’d thought all his skills would be useful only as a private investigator or cop or something similar. He’d never really been interested in guns or uniforms. So joining the academy and working his way up the latter from beat cop to detective wasn’t something that interested Mason. However, he wasn’t opposed to teaching. It was something he could see himself doing. His fake family gave him something and Mason would be grateful for that, even if at seventeen, he was already starting to forget what his mother looked like and had to pick up that picture on his bookshelf to remind himself.
His childhood was where all the excitement in Mason’s life begins and ends. There wasn’t anything overly exciting in neither high school nor university. He continued with his martial arts but that didn’t lead down an exciting road either. When the time came, he packed up his things and moved to California to attend UC Berkley, getting his degree in anthropology. He went on after returning to New York state to attend Columbia University, continuing his studies and achieving his doctorate in Anthropology. He worked in the field for some time, gaining experience and returning to New York whenever he could. It was a long road for Mason but it all seemed like a blink of an eye. One minute he was a high school senior, trying to make the grades to get into the school of his choice and the next he was newly turned twenty seven, had his doctorate in Anthropology, had a cosy professor position at NYU and was just going over the final details of his first book. He spends far too much time hidden away either in his office, or at his home with his dog, Athos.
