Angelina fixed her glasses so that they were settled in the proper spot on the bridge of her nose. She had been reading, and the frames had a tendency to keep sliding down. She had a small pile of books on either side of her. Those she had read, and those that she was about to read. Her head was so filled with information at this point, that she felt it could quite possibly explode. She lowered the book she currently had in her hand, and she looked over the others in the library. People watching was sometimes a fun past time when her eyes needed a break from staring at books.
She wondered why people even went to libraries.. Most people had their computers or their phones, looking things up. Hardly any of the books were even touched. There were even people in there with Kindles. What was the point? She, of course, enjoyed such spoils, but libraries were there for a reason. An archive filled with stories, both real and fictional..what could be better? Ah. That's right. The internet did the same thing.
She softly sighed to herself, and she grabbed the pile of books that she had finished reading, and she took them to the book cart where they would later be sorted and put away by the librarian. She decided to put some of the other books away, too.. she'd read them another time. The one she was reading currently had her in it's thrall.
'Forbidden Archeology: The Hidden History of the Human Race'. It was quite an interesting read. Before lifting her book again, she saw a girl whom she had a few classes with. This particular girl was in a sorority, and was using the library as a place to make out with her flavor of the week. She rolled her eyes and opened her book. It was no wonder she never had a boyfriend if that's the kind of girl men looked for.

Lethe was both overjoyed and frustrated that school was back in full swing already. At least it meant winter was coming; Lethe's favourite season without a doubt. She wasn't born for the sunshine and the heat, despite living her teenage years in Las Vegas. However, there was also a whole load of work to do for classes and assignments. Some of them Lethe could barely drag herself through because the course was so strict and rigorous and she knew that there was more out there she could be doing to prepare herself for her academic future. Alas, her professors didn't quite see it the same way and she often got pushed out of the office while she was still protesting about the benefits of some other theories and options. It wasn't as though Lethe had her mind set on any in particular, but since she was following in the college footsteps of both her parents she did already know a thing or two about anthropology before her plane landed in New York. A year later and her professors knew by now just how outspoken and opinionated Lethe could be, even though it was her big mouth that often landed her in trouble.
That was sort of the case today. She had been discussing a paper with her professor and his lack of help had led to Lethe having a mini explosion. Ultimately it had resulted in her guaranteeing him the best paper he had ever read from a sophomore covering a whole spectrum of theories, findings and follow up research. Lethe knew she could pull it off, but she hadn't originally wanted to commit quite so heavily to a paper that would only make up a tiny fraction of a percentage towards her overall grade. Still, Lethe liked to frequently swear that she was a girl of her word and she was stubborn enough to stick with an idea – however stupid. Which is why she found herself in the library, checking the catalogue and writing down the locations of the books she needed. It was a slow trawl through the stacks to find what she needed and with only one heavy tome left on the list Lethe balanced everything in her arms and made her way towards it's location. What she didn't expect to see when she got there was a couple getting hot and heavy against the books. “Tongues back in your own mouths please, and get a room next time. Some of us actually need these things.” They happened to be standing right where she needed to be and Lethe unceremoniously knocked them both along with her hip so she could find and tug the book down from the high shelf. “Ježiš Kristus. Niektorí ľudia. Pohyb, pohyb!” With the couple moving along in a combined state of arousal and confusion or annoyance, Lethe could carry on shouting quietly in her native tongue at them until they were out of sight. Sometimes she just loved toying with people.

It was kind of difficult to concentrate on her book with the sounds of mouths slapping against each other, and saliva being exchanged. It was a little disgusting. Still though, she tried to stay silent and let the couple do their thing, doing her best to ignore it. She cleared her throat a few times, but they never stopped. She wasn't surprised, though.
When another girl came in, though, and she started speaking in what Angel picked up as Russian, she turned her head and smiled. The couple had no idea what the girl were saying, but the girl huffed at her as if -she- were the one being rude. The couple moved away - girl buttoning up her blouse - and Angelina giggled putting her hand over her mouth to stifle the laughter. Turning to look at Lethe, who she had seen in passing but didn't really know, she spoke softly - just enough for the girl to hear her. "They've been doing that for the better part of an hour. I'm surprised they had any tongues to even put in to the back of their throats at all." She laughed quietly, and looked back down to her book.
How curious! There was someone in the library looking for a book. She was going to just be silent and go back to reading, but she decided to direct her attention back to the Russian girl once more. "If you're looking for somewhere to study, this table is usually a good place for it. People around here tend to avoid me like the plague, so you should be safe." She grinned.

Lethe was beyond caring about what people thought of her. She got the weird looks most days of the week when she bounded in somewhere wearing what she would describe as one of her every day outfits. Then, of course, there was the mouth that got her into trouble more often than not and it wasn't always a successful tactic to try and smile her way out of things, even if it had worked for her in the past. New York was not Nevada and she didn't have a brother and a boyfriend to back her up if things got rough on the East coast. However, some girl huffing at her because she interrupted their little make out moment wasn't about to have Lethe running for the hills. She was more likely to grind her spiked heel into the foot of the prissy girl if she so much as uttered another word. Lethe did have a terrifying clumsy streak so it was very plausible that she would 'accidentally' step on someone's foot. There were people who could vouch for that who had gone on a night out with the raven haired girl.
“Bleurgh!” Lethe called after the leaving couple, pulling the face to match the sound that passed her lips. A passing librarian threw her a glare, but Lethe waved that along too. She knew the rules of the library well enough, but silence just wasn't her forte. “Someone should tell them that there are motels you can rent by the hour for that sort of thing. If they'd even need the full hour.” Lethe commented, rolling her eyes. It wasn't like she hadn't acted wild in public because of young love, but her indiscretions had been at parties or with at least a smidgen of privacy. Shifting the books in her arms so she could hold them more firmly, Lethe waited until the desperate couple were completely out of sight before she moved away from the shelves.
Glancing back to listen to the girl speaking to her, Lethe let out a slow sigh. “You and me both, sister.” With Lethe there could be reasons for people to stay away from her, other times people just didn't like the appearance of her. It wasn't something the Slovakian let bother her; there were far more important things out there to worry about than the opinions of others. Dropping her books on the table with a loud 'thunk', Lethe winced and glanced around to see if anyone was disturbed. Luckily everyone seemed off in their own little worlds. “Whoops.” She slipped into a seat and flung open her folder of notes before even glancing towards the stack of old tomes that would hopefully serve her purpose.

Noticing her glasses were sliding her nose yet again, she pushed them back on to the bridge of her nose using her middle finger, delving back in to her book again. For several minutes she stayed quiet, reading away, and letting the other girl to the same, and then she lifted her gaze to the clock. She was surprised that Daniel hadn't called her yet. Usually he would have alerted her by now that he had found something 'different' and new at the museum. Otherwise, he'd call her and pop quiz her on random things he'd find while he was there. It was slightly irritating how he he did that. Still though, it kept her on her toes. Apparently he found something to keep him busy. Her curiosity peeked when she saw the small stack of books that the girl had beside her. She didn't look too pleased about everything she had to read. "Studying for a test?" She asked in a soft voice, as to not piss off the librarian. Not like it mattered anyway. No one was probably paying attention. She closed her own book, and smoothed her hand over the cover of it. She made a note to read it later, but at the moment, staring at the small print was starting to give her a little bit of a headache. People had told her several times to get contacts, but she wasn't really interested in them. She liked her glasses, even though they were slightly too big for her face, even when she tightened them. As far as the way the girl dressed, it didn't deter her. In fact, she liked her bold style choices. She, herself, had a very girl-next-door meets nerd queen way about her style. No one knew what to think of Angelina. She was definitely in a class of her own. While waiting for the girl to answer, she pulled out a notebook from her bag, as well as a pen, and she began taking notes on what she had read in the book. That way, not only would she remember where she was in the book, but also, in case she didn't read it again, she'd have the memory of what she had learned. So much information had been in her mind that she needed to pour it out somewhere. It happened to be in notebooks. She had several piled up in her apartment. Stacks upon stacks. Even though she seemed organized, she really wasn't. Not even close. Tagged: Lethe!Word Count: 417 Outfit: Chic Geek! Notes: ~<3~

As she read, Lethe twirled a front portion of her jet black hair around her fingers. Normally this led to her getting more distracted by the details of her hair and wondering if it was time to brighten things up with the aid of some dye. Last time she had put electric blue in her bangs until she had grown bored of waking up to it each day. However, for now she was focused on the pages of a book that was older than she was. It was her father who believed that old books were the best kind of books and with that reasoning alone the spare room in their Nevada home had been converted into a library to house his collection. Lethe and her brother had been fighting for a den of sorts where they could hang out with their friends, but their father had won out in the end during an epic battle of Trivial Pursuit. To this day Lethe still insists that he cheated.
Glancing up at her current study companion, Lethe let out a long sigh and stretched her arms across the wood of the table. “A test is easier to study for.” She mumbled, looking sideways at the stack of books. “No, I went and opened my big mouth like a hlupák and now I have to write a killer essay to prove my point.” When she only had herself to blame, Lethe knew that there was no point in complaining. Which is why she would ultimately press on with her work and slave away over this assignment until she felt like her eyes were burning, her fingers were numb from typing and sleep was a long lost cousin to her.
Lethe was luckily that anthropology was an area she already knew well. It would be near impossible for her to stumble upon something she hadn't even remotely heard of. Plus, if she did get stuck or reach a point where her mind was so jumbled with names and thoughts, she could always call her parents. She knew without a doubt that they would both spring to life at the chance to have an academic debate over Skype with their only daughter. In fact, Lethe would probably have a difficult time getting them to leave her alone. She had done it once before and there had been her father talking about findings he was offering up at work that had relevance to his daughter's studies, while her mother had started running off to fetch books into the equation. They were a passionate, somewhat quirky family at the best of times. “Yeah, I'm probably going to get noisy or flap around a lot. I don't sit still; I fidget.” It had been the one main things teachers in high school had reprimanded her for.

Angel winced when it was revealed that the reason for all of the books was because Lethe actually volunteered to do such work. "Ouch," she placed her hand over her heart. ""That's harsh. You've gotta be careful when you're making deals with the devil. Or, in our case, professors." After giving her a smile, she looked back down at her notes again that she had been taking. "Well, if you happen to need advice or anything, just let me know. I'm pretty awesome on writing essays, and even though anthropology isn't quite my major, I still know a thing or two about it." She gazed over her notes, sighing softly.
Her eyes lifted to the clock again. She had been in the library for hours now. She took off her glasses, put them on the table, and she leaned back, stretching out to the tips of her fingers. She lowered a hand to her mouth, where she covered a yawn, and then she rested her elbows on the wooden table, sliding a hand over her face. At times, she wished she had more of a life.. but aside from the exciting times that she had when going out on archaeological digs, and touring other countries and reading/learning ancient scripts, this was the most excitement she got. Sitting in a library, learning more about things she already knew.
She glanced over her shoulder, considering getting a book that wasn't meant for knowledge purposes, but sheer entertainment. Giving in to temptation, she put her glasses back on, then crossed the library until she found a rather cheesy looking young adult romance novel filled with vampires, werewolves, witches, and fairies, and she sat back down beside Lethe. She cleared her throat, and her cheeks were a little pink. No one knew that she enjoyed reading such books, but there she was. Nose deep in something called 'Faded Whispers'.

Truthfully, Lethe was throwing this minor tantrum just because she could. That, and she had always bordered on the dramatic side. When she had been back in Vegas and trying to figure out what to do with her life, friends had frequently joked that maybe acting was a choice for Lethe. However the thought of success and then living in LA with Malibu Barbie lookalikes, had a scowl forming across her doll-like features. She'd rather just throw the dramatic fits far away from the camera and move on once she had completed the first take of them. But this essay, before she had engaged the professor in a one sided and heated debate, was something she could do in her sleep. It was a familiar area, one her parents favoured and one Lethe had heard about for as long as she could remember. This extra reading would be a pain only because it would cut into the time she reserved for getting into trouble and then running away from it. “I'll make a deal with the devil next time.” She vowed, crossing her fingers as though she was taking a solemn vow. Waving the idea of essays away, Lethe shrugged casually. “Meh, it'll be fine. I could do this while hanging upside down on a jungle gym. But thanks for the offer.” She smiled politely across at the girl to show that her appreciation was genuine.
Lethe was reading the words, but most of it was stuff that she already knew, so the pages were turning pretty quickly. Really, all she needed was the source references so she didn't get shouted at for footnoting her parent's own research for every single point she threw out there. It wasn't like Prochazka was a common surname, especially not in America. Plus, riding on her parent's work just seemed like a shortcut and while it was a very tempting one, Lethe had come to university to make a name for herself and not lurk in the shadows of their success. Lethe couldn't really focus. The library was too quiet by her standards, but then she didn't really fancy lugging all of the books home to her apartment when she might only really find what she needed in a few of them.
By the time her companion returned to the table with a different book, Lethe had already tossed her first book to the side. She had decided it was too basic and sounded much to like a summer course of Anthropology 101. It was stuff she had known when she was twelve and not the sort of thing she was hoping would improve her essay. Maybe it wouldn't take her too long at all inside the stuffy library and she could be gone before the janitorial staff arrived with their cleaning supplies.

Angel's phone was on vibrate, of course, when it went off, buzzing around on the table, turning in little circles each time. She lifted her gaze, and looked at the message she had gotten. It was from her mentor, and boss, Daniel. She had to read the message several times over, but in the end, she smiled. He didn't have to tell her it was a woman. She had intuition. "Well.. good for him," She mused to herself. If it wasn't a woman, she'd be surprised. Usually if he met others with the same interests as him, he'd just sit there at the museum and talk for hours and hours and hours until the museum closed. Angel knew this, because she was unfortunately privy to many of those particular exchanges. Of course, she loved the topics they discussed, but she had gotten a little antsy from time to time. Especially whens he was mostly out of the conversations. "Apparently my mentor met someone and has a date for the first time in. Well. Years." She knew that Lethe probably didn't care, and she didn't want to disturb her, but Angel was feeling a little lost at the moment, not having anyone to pester her repeatedly, that she felt the need to do the same to someone else. Lonely, she guessed is what she was. And now she had the entire day off? What would she do with herself with so much freedom? No classes, no work, no having to situate papers for lectures. What did most people her age do? Ah. That's right. They made out in front of book shelves. Well, that was out of the question! Returning back to her book, she started to tap her foot. Now she was starting to fidget.

Lethe had grown up around old books and museums, thanks to her parents. Ever since she herself had run off to university they had joked about how on earth Makhai, her brother, had managed to miss out on the anthropology love. He had gone to the University of Nevada to study law and was currently attending law school. His reply was always that someone had to break tradition, ignoring the looks his baby sister pulled behind his back. Their relationship hadn't changed a bit, not even after they had moved from Slovakia to America. They had always been a playful pair of siblings who both encouraged and teased the other about the things they loved the most. She was staring at the pages of her textbook, wondering what on earth Makhai would say if he could see his sister sitting in the library and studying “like a real student. She was tempted to text him with a photo of the books and her horrified face, but the girl sitting opposite her distracted her before she could do that.
Chuckling, Lethe leaned back to look amused. “Well, so long as his date doesn't end up in the library making out in the stacks.” She retorted, raising her eyebrows like a gossiping mother might. The turn in conversation had Lethe thinking back to the last time she went on a date, which was with Joel and which would have been a very long time ago. At least that was the way she saw it. Their break-up hadn't exactly been something people saw coming and Lethe did sometimes find herself wishing things had worked out, but she knew that what had happened had been for the best. “So, is he a hunk?” She asked jokingly, leaning across the table and wiggling her eyebrows as though she really did want the gossip on a man she knew nothing about.

As far as Angelina went, she has never gone on a date before. Boys weren't exactly normally attracted to her. Sure, she was pretty, but it was mostly because she wouldn't give them the things she wanted. She was far too much of a good girl. But, she looked at it as giving her more time to focus on work and school which were the important things in life. There would be plenty of times for boys later. "Yeah, I could definitely do without hearing anymore tongue wrestling coming from the non-fiction section." she laughed.
When Lethe asked her if her mentor was a hunk, Angelina scrunched her nose, even though she was smiling. "I guess he's attractive yes, but I don't really look at him that way. He's kind of the closest thing I have to a brother. But he has a charming quality about him.. he doesn't really show it. It's kind of strange that he's actually making a move." Girl talk wasn't Angelina's strong suit. Just as she didn't have boyfriends, gal pals were absent in her life as well. When she first started at NYU, just on her looks alone she was prodded to join several sororities, but she wasn't interested. This made her a target for the girls on sorority row.. and not in a good way.
"Hmm.. I feel like i'm being a distraction from your stuff you've got going on there.." she wiggled her index finger at the book pile. "I've never quite been a bad influence before. It's kind of exhilarating."

Joel had been Lethe's first love, but she had moved on from that before running off to New York City. Well, she had moved on as much as anyone could from something like that. She knew Joel was back in Vegas now, home at last, but Lethe took a moment to realise that she didn't want to rush back there. In that moment she realised she might have actually gotten over him and what they had. It was a feeling to relish and one that her confident in her choice to be in New York City. “If you see him coming with anyone, give me a shout. I'll tackle one of them to the ground and kill the mood before we can be scarred any further.” Lethe said as though she was making a promise.
Laughing, and not too quietly, Lethe kicked back to relax for a minute. “Maybe she's a supermodel.” Lethe suggested lightly. She had seen guys bend over backwards for one girl when for everyone else they could be borderline impolite. It was quite funny to see just how much people could change for one person. “You'll have to harrass him for all the gossip whenever you see him next. You know, check out to see if he's in the same clothes, wearing a stupid grin...the works.” Lethe spoke as though she plotted these sorts of things regularly. In truth the only person she ever demanded information like that from was Makhai and she would wait up all night just to catch him sneaking in wearing smeared lipgloss and a lopsided grin.
Glancing at the books, Lethe pulled a face at them and shrugged carelessly. “If it wasn't you distracting me it would only be something else.” She would've ended up texting her brother if she was alone and that would've led to nothing getting done. Or she'd have pulled out her tablet and started shoe shopping or something similar after remembering something completely unrelated to her work. It was her curse, if she had one.
