KENNEALLY SHANNON RIPPLEY
FULL NAME: Kenneally Shannon Rippley
NICKNAMES: Ripper, Kenny.
AGE: twenty-six
GENDER: male
SEXUALITY: Straight.
STATUS: Single.
GROUP: Student.
GRADE: Junior.
MAJOR: Travel and Tourism.
JOB OCCUPATION: O'Malley's Chef.
HAIR: His hair is actually a dark shade of red, which can look brown at times. It's curly, just like his mother, but unlike hers he keeps his short and tidy, usually tamed with product so he doesn't look like he's about to sport some kind of afro.
EYES: Blue.
SCARS/BIRTHMARKS: None of great significance or importance.
TATTOOS: None yet, but he's working on a sleeve design with a friend. He just wants it perfect before he gets it on his skin.
PIERCINGS: None.
PLAY-BY: Richard Madden!
LIKES: Cooking, travelling, mountain climbing, mountain biking, adventure holidays, going to farmer's market, organic vegetables and fruit, O'Malley's, being able to get feedback from customers, a clean kitchen, lollipops, dogs, chocolate ice cream, Irish coffee, inventing new meals, traditions, going back to his hometown, white water rafting, girls in green, rugby union.
DISLIKES: Burning food, having to shout for attention at work, picky complaints from fussy customers, vet visits, falling asleep on the sofa, trying to get his dish cloths clean again, perpetual laziness, net curtains, black tea, sweet coffee, running out of shortbread, soap operas (he gets addicted), chewing gum (it loses taste), fast food fanatics, his car breaking down, powercuts, limes.
FEARS: being stuck in one place forever, disappointing his family, seagulls.
SECRETS: He was actually a child model right up until he turned ten. It was something he thought was fun and cool back then, but didn't know any better. Now he's embarrassed to mention it or bring out the old portfolio his mother made him keep and bring to New York. For some reason she thought if he was down on his luck he might take it up again for the cash. She still thinks of him as her little cherub.
PERSONALITY: For some reason, most people find Ripper intimidating. It might be his nickname, but he thinks it's more to do with the glare he seems to perpetually wear without intending to, or the gruff accent he carries still. Truth is, Ripper is mostly a sweetheart who will help people with their grocery shopping, or take a day to fit someone some shelves. He's a modest man, barely aware of his own talents or strong points. Athletic to a point, Ripper does like to stay active most of the time, but he's slightly more adventurous than a typical gym-goer. He's outdoorsy and likes to see places when he's away on vacation or having a climbing weekend or whatever. He's friendly and the kind of neighbour most people would kill for; helpful and efficient. He's habitual, almost on the verge of superstitious in his ways with quirky necessities that he just has to have; like lollipops when he's in the kitchen at work. When it comes to work, he can be a no-nonsense kind of guy who doesn't have time for slacking off when the kitchen is busy. He's not some terrible chef on the level of Gordom Ramsay, but he likes things to get done. The fun he'll happily have later with a sing-song or a shot at the bar. He's got a quick temper that does flare up somewhat easily when the right buttons are pressed. Ripper isn't afraid to step into a situation and square up to somebody. He can be protective and somewhat territorial over people he's close to; especially the females, be them relatives, friends or something more. He's the guy who will happily play bodyguard and interrogator whether they want him to or not. He makes up for it though. Ripper likes to treat the people in his life in some way or another. Romance, while not a frequent thing for him, is usually something that he takes his time with. He likes the whole courting process and he's quite traditional in how he'll treat a date. Chivalry didn't die with him, but he's also not some perfect man. He's prone to reading the signs wrong or making mistakes, but he tries to correct them. Also, he's not completely immune to the charms of some casual fling either; he's a guy and there are needs, and low moments.

HISTORY: Dawn came from a big city and went and fell in love with a man from a tiny island. They met at university and it wasn't long before she left the delights of Glasgow to go and join him in “the back arse of nowhere” as she dubbed it to her friends. It took some time to adjust but she soon found a job teaching in the only school in Lochmaddy. She wondered for a while if she had made the right choice, since it seemed near impossible to raise children in such a tiny community, but Tywin had come through it all well enough and she loved every bit of the man he had grown into. Soon, she had made her decision and in a twist of events it was Dawn who proposed to Tywin! She dropped down on one knee by the water's edge and proposed to him with a cable tie fashioned into a ring. He delighted and they joked about it some more before the actual wedding day arrived. A simple ceremony, elegant and classy, and then they left for a short honeymoon, returning back to normal life.
Normal life didn't last all that long though, since they didn't reach their first anniversary before Dawn found out she was expecting a baby! Happy, excited and a hell of a lot nervous, Kenneally didn't have a name for the first three days he was in the world. Then the happy parents settled on Kenneally Shannon for their son. Back then they stuck with his full name, and he was always Kenneally and never one of those kids with nicknames that were used more than their given name. It stayed that way until his little sister Niamh was born. When she was a toddler she couldn't wrap her tongue around her brother's name and so Kenneally became Kenny.
Their childhoods were simple and happy. They attended the school where Dawn taught and didn't long for big cities or tropical weather. They grew up with chapped lips, salty hair and heavy coats. It was only when Kenneally was five that things changed. Dawn had left Niamh with Tywin and had taken Kenneally with her to mainland Scotland for a shopping trip. He needed a whole hoard of new clothes and as much as she now loved the North Uist and it's neighbouring islands, she wanted a big shopping mall and crowds of people. It was there that an agent spotted Kenneally being adorable as he begged his mother for some ice cream. At first Dawn needed to think about it, but she had always declared her son to be a handsome boy and thought that there could be no harm in trying it out.
That started off the five years of modelling that Kenneally did. He thought it was fun and loved it just because he got to travel to the mainland and usually got new things out of it. He did it frequently, enjoyed it and found himself a nice little bank account of savings for when he was older. He only stopped because it became time for him to head off to high school and he would have to concentrate more on his studies there. Plus, the school was a long bus ride away most mornings and he often found himself sleeping through the ride or finishing off forgotten homework. It was in high school that he joined the rugby team. It became his replacement for the child modelling and by the end of his teenage years he was playing for the national youth squad with the chance to go professional. It was through rugby that he earned the nickname almost everyone started calling him by. It was a play on his last name, Rippley, but the whole school and other friends knew him as Ripper. It all spun out from a breakthrough in three consecutive matches which won his team the game.
He had the chance to stick with the sport and go professional, but during high school classes, he discovered he had a talent for cooking. He loved it and would often cook dinner at home when he didn't have rugby practice or matches. He knew it was what he wanted to do with the rest of his life. It was a friend who asked him to move to New York for school. The guy was heading out there to meet relatives and to attend NYU but he didn't want to go at it alone. Ever the adventurous type, Kenneally said yes and soon they were sharing an apartment in the big city and attending school. With his friend at his side, his nickname also came too. It was hard not to instinctively say it after six years of being called it and responding to it.
Four years passed by of fun, student adventures, and nights Kenneally either can't remember or wishes he could forget. At the end of it, he graduated with honours in Culinary Arts and his friend had mastered a double degree in languages. He moved up to a higher position in the kitchen at O'Malleys (A Scotsman in an Irish pub always brought a good laugh to the customers) and his friend took off travelling. A little later on – two years in fact – he came back to New York to tell Kenneally all about his adventures. He worked on a cruise liner for a bit and then took up board in the Carribbean, working there as a translator. The whole idea sparked something in Kenneally and he headed back to NYU again; this time for Travel and Tourism. He wanted his chance to see the world and cook at the same time, so he figured with the other qualification he might stand a better chance out there when it came to job hunting.
Two more years have passed and he's balancing school with O'Malley's. He wouldn't change his life for anything, but he's starting to get comfortable in New York and wonders if he will ever be able to take his pans on that global trek after all...
