PERSONALITY:
ATHLETIC Sports, mainly solo sports, are how Brandon unleashes his anger, his frustrations or anything else that may try to bother him. He‘s in great shape and if he‘s not working at the Marquee then he‘s usually at the gym, working out until his muscles are screaming at him to slow things down a bit. His lack of vices, like drinking, smoking and drugs these days also help him keep in great shape and keep him going for those longer nights at the club when he‘s pulling double shifts.
STOIC Brandon rarely lets people in, or lets anyone around him see just how much he is capable of caring. Life has taught him that letting people in can be a huge risk and he‘d rather not deal with the guilt of hurting someone who he has strong feelings for, or vice versa. If he actually has feelings about something, then he won‘t show it in front of anyone. The only person he opens up around is his baby sister.
TO THE POINT He won‘t waste any time and can come across rather blunt. He doesn‘t have the time for the flirty girls at the club who giggle and flick their hair like it‘s the way to get their attention. If he has something to say, he‘ll come right out and say it and not waste time like some people would do. He doesn‘t see how it can hurt less to cushion the blow with meaningless rambling. With this trait, he can sometimes seem like a man of few words, often avoiding the unnecessary chit chat.
BROKEN Or so he thinks. He‘s seen things that could turn the butchest of men pale and he wouldn‘t inflict that on anyone else in his life. The things he saw as a cop and the things he knew about before then are the reasons he believes he doesn‘t trust so easily or feel like anyone could understand him. The fact that he knows how fragile people can be also doesn‘t help him in that area either, but that‘s something he definitely likes to keep to himself.
SECRETIVE Aside from his obvious reasons, Brandon doesn‘t like to talk about a lot of things, especially those that pertain to his personal life. His feelings, honest opinions and memories are just a few of the things he likes to keep to himself. If he likes a girl then she probably won‘t ever hear it from him, at least not for a long, long time, or unless something major happens.
CARING Whilst he may not seem it at first glance, Brandon genuinely does care about the few people he does let into his life. He wants to help them however he can, though he may not always do that in the most productive of ways. He also doesn‘t like to be known for it either, which may seem odd, but he prefers to keep anything that he does anonymous, especially if it‘s along the lines of repairing something or calling in a few favours to keep someone from getting hassled.
TERRITORIAL If he thinks that something is his, then the rest of the world should probably think so as well. At the club, he’s the strictest, not wanting any hassle on what he deems to be his own land. If someone were to OD on his watch because he hadn’t noticed drugs in the club, then he’d never let it go. Same applies to those he cares about; if someone were to get too close to comfort to someone he loved, then Brandon would be the first to show that there was a line crossed. It is this that can be the only thing to set his temper off.
LOYAL He understands what this means more than most people. If someone did him a good deed, then he would be the first to their side if they needed the favour returned. It’s a world of compromise and reasoning and Brandon will always be there if people need him and he knows they have good intentions at heart. He’d do almost anything for those he cares about and it’s harder to explain to some people why he can be like that, or why he can give those who made a mistake to him a second chance.
MODEST He never boasts about anything, not even his athletic skills. Brandon would much rather fade into the background than step up to the spotlight. His good deeds, when he does them, are things he prefers to keep quiet about and his memories as a cop are often filled with how he would let his partner take the praise and just pass it on to him later when they would meet up for a cool beer.

HISTORY: Brandon grew up in the Bronx, his family a little worse off for wear. His father was a decorator and his mother a waitress in a diner that had definitely seen better days. Still, there was plenty of love in their home and Brandon grew to appreciate the little they did have, his parents warning him away from the dangers of the city and of their neighbourhood. It wasn‘t uncommon for the young boy to fall asleep to the sound of sirens or street fights and bar brawls.
When Brandon was eleven, Kate was born. At first, he didn’t much like the idea of their family growing and especially the idea of having a baby sister, but as she grew up and moved on from her own infant tantrums at the same time that he was dealing with teenage mood swings, they formed an unbreakable bond that sticks even to this day. Brandon always kept his eye out for Kate, chasing away trouble whenever it came near her and making sure any boys who paid interest in his little sister knew of the consequences if they broke her innocent heart.
Something must have gone right, for he never strayed from the ideals his parents taught him and even in school and as the pressures of teenage years began to mount upon him, he never succumbed to drugs, though he did toy with alcohol when he was sixteen and for many years it would be his vice. College was never something that appealed to him, despite his mother trying to talk him into it most nights. Brandon was more practical than academic and after growing up seeing the nightmares the city had to offer, he was already hell bent on signing up to the police academy at the first chance life gave him, and he did just that.
During his time as an officer for the NYPD, he met and befriended Jacob O‘Reilly; a fellow cop who would later be his partner after they both gained promotions to detectives. One of the first scenes he attended was a brutal car accident that left Brandon wanting nothing more than a scotch on the rocks and plenty of them. It became a ritual for him and a handful of other officers when they had seen something that they were certain would keep them awake that night and probably haunt them for their lives, as well as marring their view of the world. It was distressing, but the alcohol began to numb the pain.
He was twenty five when he gained his shield and a move to the narcotics division. It was almost a dream come true for him, and he was overjoyed when his old friend Jacob was appointed as his partner. Jacob had gained the promotion a year earlier and was more than ready to accept Brandon with open arms and a gentle ribbing from time to time. Things went well for some time, but Brandon began to notice slight changes in his partner as the time went by. At first he was just running late a lot, but then his temper began to get the best of him, his reflexes were slower and one time, Brandon took a bullet to save his life when he was too occupied with pretty much nothing to notice the gunman standing nearby taking aim. In the hospital, after surgery, he managed to coax his old friend into talking to him and he reluctantly revealed the collapse of his marriage after less than two years.
After that, it didn’t take long for Brandon to realise that his friend’s changes were the result of alcoholism. He called him out on it, but Jacob refused to accept what he was saying and it was with a heavy heart and deep guilt that Brandon turned to the captain to voice his concerns.
Jacob was offered the ultimatum; seek help, or get out. Most of the squad turned against Brandon for narking on his partner, but he thought he had done the right thing. Everything lost meaning though and the purpose he once stood for, faded. He had wanted to help Jacob get better, but now his partner wouldn’t even talk to him.
Brandon soon quit the NYPD, tired of striving and feeling nothing for it. He could sense himself reaching for a bottle more often and it scared him; he didn’t want to end up on the same path as Jacob.
He quit drinking altogether, finding other healthier ways to vent his frustrations. It was hard for a while, not knowing what to do with his life, but things soon began to look up again. He got himself a job as a bouncer for the Marquee nightclub and occasionally coached down at the gym when they were short staffed or holidays were approaching and everyone wanted time off.
Now, he‘s still alcohol free and doesn‘t see a reason to touch it - even sociably. Whenever things get tough he throws himself into his sports and that helps him now. He still has a few friends with the NYPD; the ones who he could trust. However, he‘s more like a machine than a human right now and that‘s something that has to change, especially if Kate wants to share his apartment like she keeps insisting on.
