ODETTE MORGANA NEVILLE
FULL NAME: Odette Morgana Neville.
NICKNAMES: Ettie
AGE: twenty-three
SEXUALITY: straight
STATUS: single
GROUP: citizen
GRADE: N/A
MAJOR: N/A
JOB OCCUPATION: Personal Assistant.
HAIR: brown, thick and long. Ettie loves wearing it down and trying new little styles with it, but it’s not been above her shoulders since childhood.
EYES: Brown.
SCARS/BIRTHMARKS: The only noticeable one is usually hidden by her hair. It’s on the back of her neck, just over the spine and she got it when she was a teenager and on holiday. They were on a cave tour and her brother told her that there was blood, but Odette doesn’t remember getting hurt that day; she just has the scar.
TATTOOS: She has three silhouetted bird tattoos on the very top of her right thigh, just before her hip. She got them on a whim, but they’re reflective of her siblings and how they’d all grown apart, but came from the same place.
PIERCINGS: Earlobes twice!
PLAY-BY: Jenna-Louise Coleman!
LIKES: her moped, jazz music, lounge bars, old markets, peaches, flowy skirts, fashion magazines, lip balm, Audrey Hepburn movies, bubble baths, singing, mimosas, coloured tights, orchids, shoe shopping, jewellery boxes, mint hot chocolate, diaries, European cuisine, postcards, art museums and galleries, Cherry Coke, ankle boots, hats, the feel of grass, oak trees, languages, T’ai Chi, collecting snow globes, Shakespeare, Rocky Horror, “cult movies”, dating, night’s out, dares.
DISLIKES: sewer rats, Jack Daniels, dark alleyways, bullies, having a sore throat, her laptop having problems, people relying on technology/devices for everything, pessimism, car alarms at 4am, when new shoes hurt, dark chocolate, dry cleaning tickets getting lost in her bag, rude neighbours, girls who worry about their weight constantly, her migraine attacks, overbearing cologne, lavender, beer, thunderstorms when she’s out in them, spiders scuttling away as she’s about to catch them.
FEARS: losing contact with her family, being mugged, crows.
SECRETS: She can quote the whole of Rocky Horror and even has the impressions down to perfection. Also, not really a secret, but she doesn’t go and spill her risqué memories with anyone she meets; it takes several drinks and the right topic to bring those up! She’s not ashamed by anything she’s done, embarrassed maybe, but there’s a hell of a lot more to her than an innocent smile and those tales are the evidence! A girl needs a bit of mystery, though.
PERSONALITY: Generally, Odette is a happy young woman, with few complaints to ruin her day. She has a butter wouldn’t melt personality when you first meet her, but Ettie has her own mischievous streak that usually shows up in the form of silly games and setting her friends up with harmless dates or silly pranks. Also, just because she was raised polite and with a cute smile, doesn’t mean she can’t handle her own. She stands up to bullies regardless of their victim and can give an egotistical man at a bar a mouthful that will leave him wishing he’d picked on someone else instead. She’s not necessarily violent, but she’s also not afraid to stand her ground; words are her preferred weapon of choice. Ettie is organised, dedicated and helpful which proves handy considering that she’s taken a job as a PA. She’s feminine, a little bit of a traditionalist, but she’s not predictable. She’ll deliberately say the opposite of what people expect and she’ll shake things up whenever it’s getting dull. She doesn’t like spending her weekends at home and loves seeing what New York has to offer by the way of nightlife. Odette can be stubborn and sometimes pushes a little too much when it’s the last thing people want from her. She’s the optimist who will try to make everyone see life in the same way that she does. The only time that changes is when one of her migraines hit and then she’s snappy and more lethargic rather than being the spunky girly girl everyone is used to. Ettie has a habit of sweeping her problems under the mat and ignoring them until they’re built up high and ready to crush her. She doesn’t cope well with anything remotely negative and tries to blank it out. Often, it’s someone else who has to make her face up to the fact that not everything is always as full of sunshine as it appears. She is a hopeless romantic and a total dreamer who sometimes opens her heart a little too quickly without thinking about the risks, but at the same time, she's ready for a little bit of fun and a casual relationship, too; she's young, what's the harm? A bubbly, small town girl with a love for weekends full of drinks, dancing, good friends and sunrises before finally falling into bed, Odette is like most young women in the city. She longs for an adventure and the excitement that can only be found with the bright lights of NYC!

HISTORY: Odette was the third of the four children born into the Neville brood. Jonathan and Bianca met through mutual friends and a dreaded blind date that had actually proven to be a success. Jonathan worked in his family run café and Bianca had a market stall that sold costume jewellery. It wasn’t much to boast about, but they were happy and Jonathan inherited the family shop from his dad just after the couple finally tied the knot and found out that they were expecting their first child. Having four children was definitely not the plan, but it happened like that and the small three bedroom terraced house up the side of the river was definitely full to capacity.
Her childhood wasn’t much different from most children. Of course, growing up in the rural town that her family haled from meant that she got used to dealing with tourists as a relatively early age and there isn’t a Shakespeare play, sonnet or fact that she can’t quote at the drop of a hat now, but Ettie loved it. There were street performers and market stalls and every weekend seemed to be like something out of one of the novels her mother had on a shelf in their crowded living room. She rarely stayed indoors, always seeking out some form of adventure in the streets that had been preserved to stay behind the times and look like they had been frozen centuries earlier. It was almost impossible to avoid performing, too. Ettie was in the majority of school productions, though she only landed a main role when she was in high school and growing more comfortably into her petite frame. She attended the same local school as her siblings and most of the other kids who lived in the town. She helped her mum out on the market stall during the holidays and on the weekends and spent many a Saturday evening watching the residents close up shop and the live music begin. Her father loved treating his family to meals in some of the restaurants and bars that played the “good stuff”, which was anything remotely connected to the jazz era, which was where Odette developed her love of that genre from.
In school, as at home, Ettie was a good girl and made good grades. She played the peace keeper a lot of the time and intervened if she saw anyone getting bullied. She had grown up with a backbone firmly in place after the general sibling rivalries and fights and not one of the Neville children could be used as a doormat. If someone got up in her face for sticking up for someone then all Ettie did was raise her eyebrow in a challenge. A fight or two might have broken out, but most of the time there was this illusion of a halo around Odette’s head and she could probably get away with murder if she tried. Plus, most of the time she fought with words, rather than with her fists and it didn’t take too long in a small town to find the perfect ammunition to get the class bully to back off before the first punch could be thrown.
She didn’t have plans for her future like some of the kids, but she already knew that she wanted to go to university and eventually that time came for her. Bianca wanted Ettie to stay close to home like her older siblings had done, but Odette wanted to spread her wings and see what else was out there. There were fights and arguments about it and Bianca often accused her daughter of not understanding the importance of family. Bianca struggled to accept that her children were growing up and that Stratford-upon-Avon only offered a limited future for their dreams. The mum had needed someone to blame and Odette seemed to get the brunt of it since she was the one so keen to move away and find her place in the world. Odette was accepted to the University of Essex where she studied hard for a double Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics and Italian. The Italian part of her degree gave her a year in the beautiful country, too, as part of the modular breakdown. University was Ettie’s “wild phase”. She didn’t do anything too out of control, but she was a spontaneous girl who would try anything once. Amateur nights in the lounge bars singing some of her dad’s old jazz records (she was never going to sell millions but she could hold a tune well enough!), parties in the student halls, dares that hopped the line of risqué; for a girl who looked quite innocent, she had stories that she’d never tell to her family. Odette lived the student lifestyle to the max, and that was putting it simply. Her year in Italy was incredible and not just because of the typical romance that the country had to offer. Her school was in Rome, but Ettie didn’t limit herself to the beautiful city. During the first few weeks she met the wonderful Leonardo Meucci; a post graduate biology student at the same university. She was twenty-one and he was twenty-four, but it was one of those “love-at-first-sight” experiences. He took her dancing and literally and figuratively swept the small girl of her feet. He took her travelling and there was little time away from studying that they didn’t spend together. When they ended their relationship so that Odette could return to England and graduate it was heart breaking for both of them. However, they kept it touch via postcards and letters.
Odette donned the robes and graduated the summer before she turned twenty-two. Most of her friends had jobs lined up for them, but Odette had other ideas; ideas that only increased the amount of verbal fights she shared with Bianca. She had worked during her university years and still had some savings from her youth. It was nothing amazing, but it was enough to take her backpacking around Europe with three friends from school. Italy had given her a taste of what was out there and Rome had been the first place outside of the UK that she had ever visited. Ettie had tasted blood and wanted more! So, she backpacked around Europe for close to ten months, spending another few weeks in the company of Leonardo when they crossed through Rome. It was probably a foolish idea when their break up was still pretty raw for Ettie to deal with; she still loved him, but it gave them a chance to really say goodbye now that, finally, Odette was forming plans for the years to come and none of them included a permanent move to Rome.
Her family were shocked, but not completely surprised, when Ettie came home only to tell them that she had another adventure and another country lined up already. Her mum thought she was being a dreamer again, foolishly wasting her life chasing the impossible and this led to quite a big fallout between the mother and the daughter. Bianca couldn’t understand why Odette couldn’t just stay at home or get a job in England and whenever Ettie mentioned the idea of an adventure and wanting her life to be something more exciting than a typical nine to five slog in a Birmingham or London office, it just caused the argument to repeat itself. Bianca had never left the UK and didn’t see what the rest of the world had to offer. She couldn’t understand that Ettie wasn’t her in anything more than looks and their fragile relationship became even more chipped and tarnished.
Odette had her degree qualifications and a list of extra-curricular stuff from her time at the university. Obviously, her previous jobs had mainly been bar work or waitressing, but she had travelled, she had tastes and Ettie was the kind of girl who could dig her heels in until she got what she wanted; nothing could deter her and nothing could make her give up. Obviously, the best city for a small girl who dreams big is New York City and a little shy of six months later, Odette touched down in the bustling city of neon lights. She had a small apartment in Brooklyn waiting for her and her dad had bought her a dog to keep her company since she’d be so far from home. He’d even named it after her favourite movie character when she was a kid!
Obviously there was no job just waiting for her when her feet hit the ground and it was another round of temp work while hunting through the internet and the papers for something else. The strained mother/daughter relationship continued through phone calls home and Bianca seemed to be waiting for Odette to fail. She believed in her daughter, but honestly thought that she was doing more harm than good by jumping straight in with her dreams and often ignoring all the negative things, sweeping them under the carpet like she could forget about them. It might have been true about Odette’s personality, but she was also stubborn and the more her mum reprimanded her, the more determined she became to prove her wrong.
Ettie had always had a passion for movies and while she didn’t long to be in front of a camera or jump straight to a higher position in that industry, she did always find herself thinking back to it. Finally, after another application and a successful interview Ettie found herself with a job and a pass to one of the movie studios. Apparently her enthusiasm and dedication had impressed the producer and now the job of PA was hers! In Ettie’s mind there really was no better way to spend her first summer in New York!
