PERSONALITY: Ember is a most definitely feisty. This girl doesn’t back down from a fight and will very easily snap thanks to her short temper. She’s been known to throw a punch or two if you rub her the wrong way. She’s also incredibly stubborn. She won’t be the first to apologise under any circumstance and she certainly won’t give in, regardless of whether her opinion is right or wrong.
Ember is a partier. She spends most nights out at the clubs around the city, getting drunk and hanging with the people she calls her friends, but hardly knows. She’s a big flirt and often doesn’t realise that she’s doing it, which can land her in even more trouble.
Reading Ember is a difficult one. She got a defensive front that she’ll use to keep people at bay and to stop them getting close to her. She’ll yell and fight and act really bitter at times to protect herself from getting hurt. Underneath that cold exterior though, hides a girl who’s clever and occasionally, even quite witty.
She likes to be unpredictable and is the kind of girl who will take off for days at a time, travelling or just even riding her bike. She doesn’t like people who can work her out too easily and is constantly developing new hobbies and traits to keep people on their toes. Ember is strong because she thinks that she has to be. Independence is another big part of her life. She may live with her brother, but throughout her life she’s pretty much learnt to look after herself and will never ask for help, even if she’s desperate.
She hates to be controlled. Ember needs to be able to do what she wants pretty much when she wants to. It’s one of the reasons that she’ll skip her meds, just to prove that she can and that her condition doesn’t run her life.
There’s one thing that only a few people know and that’s how broken she is. She lost the love of her life and has never been the same since. Some nights she’ll cry all evening, completely inconsolable, but she’ll never tell anyone that, or any of the problems that have stemmed from it. She thinks it’ll make her seem weak.

HISTORY: Ember was born during the summer to Eliza Morris, a teenage mother who had dropped out of high school and worked as a waitress in a late night diner. Life was pretty abysmal before she could remember it and her father was on his way to being a successful businessman who referred to his only daughter as “the one night stand that went wrong.”
Even as a child, Ember loved to rebel and with a mother who didn’t really care much for her child, it was pretty easy to break curfew and skip school from time to time. The only thing that Ember really lived for was her sports. She played softball, volleyball, netball...anything she could when she was in school. It started off as a reason to stay away from the dingy apartment she called a home where her alcoholic mother resided, but eventually, sports became her passion and the one consistency in her life.
The only contact she had with her father was the phone calls once a month to make sure the cheque was received and cashed and to see if Ember was still breathing and that stayed the same right up until Ember was thirteen and burying herself in more trouble than it was worth. She hung out with some rough gang who were a few years older than her and who encouraged her to rebel even more. Her grades were slipping and her whole life was out of control by the time high school finally began.
It was in her first year of high school that she met Robert; a guy who sat next to her in English and who loaned her a pen on that first day. He chatted to her more than most people and eventually, Ember formed a friendship with him. He encouraged her to leave the ‘gang’ behind and to start anew. High school was a new era and a chance for her to achieve her dreams. She laughed at him and told him where to go many a time, but something stuck with her and she tried out for the sports teams again, succeeding in two. The return of the sport in her life meant that she began to realise that there was more to life than rebelling against the rules and the law. She distanced herself from the gang and spent more time with Robert and his friends, eventually starting a relationship with Robert; the one person who kept her going when things got tough.
One day though, she was on the track, training and she collapsed. Ember was rushed to hospital and after the tests, doctors concluded that she suffered from Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM). It put a whole in her world. The sports had to end and the medication began. Her drunk of a mother didn’t care anymore and Ember had been ignoring her father for years. She only had Robert to support her.
Robert forced her to make contact with her dad again and she was startled to find out that she had a brother, justolder a year older than her. The years had matured Phillip and he was ready to accept Ember with open arms. It took time but gradually, Ember built up a relationship with her father and newfound brother.
The HCM was still a difficult part of her life. It stopped her from doing so much and even with her family and Robert to support her, it still didn’t stop Ember from wanting to skip doses and throw the medication away. She took up kickboxing to help replace the loss of volleyball and track in her life, something that she still keeps up today.
When Ember was seventeen, her father brought her to his office and told her that half of the company would be hers upon his death. He ran a corporation that dealt with the production and distribution of guns to police and federal agencies across the country. After only having a son for so many years, Phillip struggled to find a way to bond with his daughter that didn’t involve taking her to the shooting range and handing her a 9mm pistol. This is where Ember’s love for guns and ability to de-stress after a long day came from.
Eighteen years past and Ember was off to college, moving out of the apartment with her mother, vowing never to see the drunkard again, and finding a nicer apartment uptown with Robert, who she was still dating and who she was very much in love with. She envisioned the long happy life with him and her HCM was very much controlled and well when college began.
Winter came and one day, Ember decided to take Robert to her dad’s country house for the weekend. They’d both been stressed with college and Ember’s medication wasn’t as effective with the stress. They were driving out of the city, when Robert insisted that he took over the wheel, noting that Ember was looking a little too pale for his liking. She tried to argue that she was fine and continued to drive, but just before they drove through a tunnel, the wheels skidded on some black ice, sending the car spinning into the tunnel. Ember couldn’t regain control and the last thing she saw were the headlights of another car before everything went black.
Ember awoke in hospital, three days later. The crash sent her into cardiac arrest and once stabilised, she spent three days unconscious whilst her dad and brother waited at her bedside. She came around to hear that Robert had died of internal injuries the night before. The eighteen year old was distraught and inconsolable.
Phillip insisted that his daughter moved in with him for a short while until she was better and able to cope alone once more. During the time she stayed there, Ember spent a lot of time with her brother, Andrew, talking to him about everything and anything. She was grateful for the company and Andrew was keen to get closer to his sister too.
Finally, Ember felt confident to go back to the apartment. The memories of Robert were there and hard to deal with, but Andrew stayed with her a few nights a week, helping her with her confidence and keeping an eye on things.
Time passed and Ember didn’t want anyone to replace Robert. She pushed strangers and friends away and began ‘forgetting’ her medication. She partied hard to stop the pain and drank to forget the memories. Eventually, Andrew moved in with her for good, keeping an eye on his baby sister when she was too intoxicated to cope and making sure that none of the low life scum that she brought home hurt her.
Things still aren’t easy and Ember still lives a life in which she’d rather be alone than share details of her life with others, but she has Andrew and she has a future to live for with the business. A rebel at heart, but with good intentions deep down, Ember is still trying to find a place in this world and someone who she can open up to and be her true self around.!
