FEARS: Fire,

SECRETS: He’s been in love with his best friend since he was a teenager.
PERSONALITY: CHARMING Damien has a natural charismatic charm that helps him appeal to everyone he encounters. His popularity in high school was factored on this and throughout his life, he has been a man of words who can try to coerce anyone into compromising with his own ideas and suggestions. It was this talent that pushed him closer to law school too during the years of being indecisive about his future.
CARING Sometimes he cares too much, especially when it comes to Taylor. He’s always looking out for her and trying to make sure that she’s happy and doing well, even when they didn’t live near each other. He sometimes forgets about boundaries though and on occasion has found himself invading someone’s personal life a little too much. He thinks he has their best interests at heart, but he has been known to be wrong in the past.
PASSIONATE Damien doesn’t do things half-heartedly. Everything he does is done with passion and when he really cares about something (or someone) it’s obvious in everything he does for them. It can make him angry when people don’t give him as much as he gives them and this has been the cause of breakdowns in the past within his job and his previous relationships.
CONFIDENT He’s never been one to mumble or panic over public speaking. Damien holds his head high when he walks down the street and giving lectures is one of his favourite hobbies. He’s not afraid to do a lot of things and sometimes it can land him in trouble because of a misunderstanding. He doesn’t let those rare moments hold him back though.
RELENTLESSMaybe it was from the law school practice or the short time he spent as a lawyer, but Damien never gives up and he never backs down. Only when it’s over will he walk away from something, but he’s been known to push and push to get the truth from someone. He won’t stop until he knows there’s nothing more he can do, even if he’s warned to back away or forget about it.
HONEST There’s very little reason for Damien to lie and so, most of the time, he’s open and honest about everything. The only thing he keeps secretive are his feelings for Taylor; she moved on with her life, in his eyes.
JEALOUS It doesn’t happen often, but at the same time it doesn’t take much to make Damien jealous. Once the green monster surfaces, it’s not easy to get rid of it and it can really put a strain on his relationships with people and makes him prone to read too much into an innocent gesture.

HISTORY: From a young age Damien made friends very easily, regardless of who the person was or where they came from. As the girl next door, it was fate that he would befriend Taylor Becks the moment she came into his life, with her then mousy hair and big eyes. The four years between them meant nothing to him and soon he was helping her climb the trees with the rest of the kids and racing her down the street when it was curfew.
In school, Damien was always one of the popular crowd thanks to his charming personality and typical looks, but he didn’t allow the shallow world of high school to take over what was truly important. He kept his eye on Taylor as she moved to the school a few years after him and he worked hard to make sure her name didn’t get dragged through the mud. It wasn’t hard for him to see how beautiful she was becoming and before long, there was a longing for her that he couldn’t explain or understand. Instead, he pushed it away and just spent as much time as he could with the girl who was his best friend.
He couldn’t protect her though once he left for college in Washington and whilst he was trying to enjoy his freshman year, it took a while for him to stop worrying constantly about the changing brunette back home. However, things passed by quietly without hitch or complication until his junior year. By this point, he was causing trouble in a fraternity and partying every spare night of the week when his law studies weren’t weighing him down. However, one night there was a knock at his door and upon opening it he saw a heartbroken Taylor, tears streaming down her face as she fell into his arms, confessing all her problems about school. She was more beautiful than ever and it killed him to see her like this, knowing that he hadn’t been able to protect her. It was in that moment that he let slip the one thing he’d hidden for years, but only realised in that moment; he told Tay that he loved her. He had expected her to freak out and run away, but shock overcame him when she repeated the words to him. They kissed and shortly after, he was carrying her to his bed, vaguely aware that this was something that could change their friendship forever, even more so because he was her first.
He was partly right. Things grew awkward between them for a short time but then it was like it never happened, though the scene replayed in Damien’s head nightly. Eventually, he decided that he couldn’t live with these feelings unresolved and took off to Fort Lee to tell Taylor how he felt when there were no emotional breakdowns to make them vulnerable. He hadn’t expected her to have already left for college and whilst he could’ve chased her, he chickened out, telling himself that Taylor had moved on from that possibility. Damien continued to live the college lifestyle and told Taylor about all the fun he was having, so as not to make it obvious that their 'encounter' still played on his mind.
He graduated college, attended grad school and then spent three years at a prestigious law firm as a defence lawyer before deciding that it was too stressful for him to continue with and that he no longer found his life fun because of it.
He only visited New York once, and that was to help Taylor mourn after the death of her mother and the revelation of her HTLV-1 virus. There were chances there for him to show Taylor how he felt, but he didn’t want it to seem like he was taking advantage of her grief. Apart from that, the two only saw each other around the holidays and only spoke roughly once a month. It was terrible considering the woman played on his mind constantly still.
After much deliberation about what he could do after he quit his job, Damien opted to teach the subject he was still passionate about. He wanted to get away from Washington though, and as his thirtieth birthday approached, he decided it was high time that he made the move to see where he stood with Taylor. This choice of heart was what moved him to New York, accepting a job in NYU as a Law Professor before finding the best way to announce the life changing news to Taylor...
