PERSONALITY: Sammy is and has always been a very go with the flow kind of girl. Super easy-going and able to laugh things off, Sam was raised to have the seemingly rare ability to believe in herself. She knows her self-worth and doesn't let anyone say a bad thing about her. Hell, even if they did, she wouldn't care anyway. Other people's opinions of her are their business, not hers. She doesn't consider herself a big party girl but she's still quite young and hasn't really experienced that part of life yet. She went to parties of course but she doesn't consider that to be the same thing. She is feisty but she's also very sweet. However, it's anyone's guess which Sam you'll get and that solely depends on your attitude towards her. She's not about to get her feelings hurt by people's words or actions unless they're saying or doing something that crosses a line for her. She was raised surrounded by older aunts and uncles so she habitually brushed off the things that would hurt snowflakes because she knows people don't necessarily mean what they're saying in the way it's perceived. Honestly, she thinks people need to get over themselves. And will happily tell people that if they say something to her.MOTHER: Megan Jennifer Sawyer-Hendricks & 49.

HISTORY: Sammy had grown up hearing stories of the man she'd been named after. It had never felt like a burden to be saddled with the moniker, though she could understand how some people might find it intimidating. She felt pride in knowing she was named after an incredible man and only wished she'd known him; however impossible that might have been. She understood why her mother was always a little more nervous when either of her children did something a little adventurous but it took a while to get there. As a child, she'd obviously not understood why her mother was so scared and chose to ask forgiveness rather than permission. It seemed like the better option. She'd been very close to Denver growing up and felt a little bit abandoned when he'd gone to New York for school. It was an incredible opportunity for him but she wanted her big brother to be around whenever she needed him. She'd been just as popular at school as her big brother was but she didn't have the added expectations that closer in age siblings had. He had a bit of a legacy to live up to but it was nothing she couldn't handle. She was into different things anyway so it wasn't a huge stretch to carve her own path. Her childhood had been a good one, lots of sports and activities and friends. A little scare when her appendix ruptured and she was in hospital for a couple days surrounded by cards from her friends and classmates and flowers and teddy bears. Other than that, though, she'd lived a relatively uneventful life in Corner Brook.
She wanted to be a hundred different things growing up, changing her mind just as often as she changed her clothes. At the end of the day, the only thing she really knew was that she wanted to hit the ground running. There was plenty of time after she'd finished up all her schooling that she could fill with adventures and vacations on beaches in far off lands. She didn't really know what she wanted to be when she grew up. It took a meeting with her school counsellor to go over what she liked to do, hobbies and interests, what she was good at so she could figure out what school would best fit her. Sammy already knew she was going to school in New York. It was just a matter of which New York school she would be applying to. Together, they realised that she was very good with various mediums in art, though she did enjoy drawing and colouring more than painting or anything else really. She decided to apply to NYU's Art school, believing she would get in. She had an internet interview as well as a phone interview where she thought she said all the right things and asked all the right questions but they said it would be a while before she would hear from them. It took two more months of sitting around, waiting before she got the letter in the mail, telling her she was accepted.
Denny had said she could move in with him long before Lexi had even come into their lives but she didn't want to interrupt their lives by having a college kid in the midst. Sammy knew she didn't have to worry, they would take her in without a single question but she still fought them on it because she really wanted them to know that she didn't want to be a burden. In the end it took a facetime call from Lexi, basically telling her she had no other choice but to move in with them while she was attending school because they wanted her there to get her to agree to it. She knew Denny would say yes, even if he wanted Lexi and their home all to himself because he was a good big brother, and it would be the truth but she needed to hear it from someone who didn't necessarily have a stake in the game. They'd grown close from the minutes the pair had been introduced and Sammy loved Lexi like the sister she was. Knowing she wanted her in their space just as much made it easy for Sam to agree.
A week after graduation, Sammy was ready to pack up what little she would need to head to New York for the next few years of her life. It was a good time for the family vacation as well, and it was as close to dropping their little girl off to college as they were going to get. They would be heading back to Corner Brook a couple weeks earlier than classes began. But then, she wasn't living on campus so the whole ritual seemed a bit redundant. They took a few days in Toronto to visit family up there, say hello to the mainland lot and then on another plane they were, off to New York.
