Thursday wasn’t able to say what her favourite band was in her youth. They hadn’t listened to music when she was little. It was always weird radio stations that discussed the end of days and played hymns where there was no news or lies to spread to the gullible masses. Nowadays she had discovered rock music, and she liked how it struck her deep down, vibrating through her bones and making her feel alive. Again though, she couldn’t choose her favourite band. She knew songs more than she knew who sung them. She enjoyed a live performance, but the mixes that her many playlists offered were often something she enjoyed even more. Going from one great song to another kept her energy up. With a single band there was always that one song she wanted to skip, or if she was too busy for that, she had to slog it out for the few minutes it was on for. Thursday lacked patience in all areas apart from her art and the tattoos it created.
However, after spending most of her life being sheltered from what was normal, Thursday wasn’t going to be the girl who turned down a chance to experience something so many others might take for granted. She hadn’t been able to go to concerts when she was younger, and since each one was such a different experience, Thursday went to as many as she could. Most of the time she hadn’t even known the band who was playing, but the tickets were cheap, and it was at one of her favourite haunts. It had been a long time since she was naively learning about the truth of the world, but there were simple things that Thursday loved more than others. Music was one of them. They had it playing pretty much the entire time anyone was in Three Kings. It made the day feel like a party, made it go by faster when there was a client who was fidgety or difficult. Lomax was not such a client. He kept the conversation going, often kept Thursday enthralled by the tales he told, and when he suggested they go to a concert some time, she probably came across as overly keen.
If she did, it didn’t seem to put Lomax off any. He had called her a little less than a week after the suggestion with tickets for some obscure band she hadn’t heard of. It didn’t put Thursday off. There were a lot of bands she didn’t know, and even more who she knew songs of, but barely remembered who they were. Before the concert she had an entire day of tattooing to get through, which was easy since she loved her job and got to spend her days around some of the most interesting people she knew. When her last client was out of the door, Thursday quickly followed and headed home to change into something less inky. When she was showered, changed and her vibrant hair was out of the top knot she had shoved it into for work, she sent Lomax a message to say she was on her way. The journey to the venue didn’t take too long and she had just turned the corner to the building when she spotted Lomax waiting a little further ahead. “So, anything I should know about these guys?” She asked as she approached, folding her arms as she stopped in front of him.
