Fae was by no means a believer in vigilante justice. She knew a crime was a crime no matter who it was against or the motive behind it. And yet, Fae felt no remorse when she picked pockets on the subway or lifted something that wasn’t hers. Most of the time it was a reflex brought on by her anxiety, but this was not one of those times. She didn’t know who the man was, but he had knocked an elderly lady over and didn’t give a damn about it. Annoyed already that afternoon, Fae wasted little time in picking the man’s wallet from his pocket on the congested stairwell. She had his address and a plan. She didn’t typically play cat burglar, but this entitled asshole needed to learn a lesson – or at least get screwed over. Fae waited for him to leave and then slipped inside the building, thanking whoever might be listening for name lists on buzzers. It definitely made this prowling a lot easy and would scale back her need to act since ideally, no one would actually notice her.
Two floors up, and third door on the right, Fae broke out her lockpicking kit, hiding it under her phone so it would look like she was sending a message instead of breaking and entering. She had it cracked in under ten seconds, and was inside before anyone came her way. Immediately, she was hit with the stench of cologne. It was overpowering and cheap, encouraging Fae to be quick about what she was doing. If only she knew what that was. She had thought of this much, but that was about it. Maybe she should just ransack the place and leave. She had no need of any of the items she could lift. She could pawn them, but there was every chance he would get them back that way and she was sure he was the type to boast about that. With everything considered, she picked up the iPad from the coffee table, dropped it to the floor and then jumped directly on top of it. He could keep his luxuries, but have none of them work. Insurance might pay out on them, but Fae knew that sort of thing took time. He’d struggle in the meantime without them. As a bonus, she took all the chargers she could find and shoved them into her bag. It was petty, but sometimes that was the best way to annoy someone.
She didn’t take her time, but she didn’t hurry either. She had to destroy everything of material worth without being noisy about it. She pulled the television off the wall, just its wires and then ground her heels into the screen just enough to ensure it was cracked or the LED was broken. She ruined what she could, spilling milk on some of the furniture too just so that there could be something in the air to combat the cologne. She didn’t know what one would be worse in the end. Everything she did was petty and pretty pathetic, but she knew it would ruin his life in a beautiful karmic way. When she felt order had been restored to the universe, Fae slipped out of the apartment the way she came, freezing up when she heard her name being called. Turning slowly, and trying her best to keep her cool, she smiled at Ayren. “Hey, you.” She hoped he wouldn’t ask her what she was doing. She also hoped he wasn’t the neighbourly type who shot the breeze with the guy whose apartment she had just destroyed. Fae didn’t think her dad would be too pleased if she joined him behind bars.
