CAOIMHE SIOBHAN MONROE
FULL NAME: Caoimhe Siobhan Monroe.
NICKNAMES: Keev, Kee
AGE: eighteen
SEXUALITY: straight
STATUS: single
GROUP: student.
GRADE: freshman
MAJOR: biology.
JOB OCCUPATION: Waitress at Planet Hollywood.
HAIR: Naturally red and to her waist. It’s frizzy wavy, but she’s learnt to tame it with styling products and irons by now. She likes to play with it a lot, sometimes using wash in/out dyes and other times just seeing what she can do with a handful of pins and a can of hairspray. It’s her “girly outlet” as her brothers call it.
EYES: Dark blue.
SCARS/BIRTHMARKS: One on her foot. She doesn't recall exactly what she did but it was on the boat dock and there was a lot of blood.
TATTOOS: “I gcónaí chaitheamh do choróin dofheicthe” with a small green clover and a heart wrapped around her wrist/forearm. It translates as “Always wear your invisible crown”. She says it saves hers needing to buy bracelets! She also has “Noel’s wings” from FFXIII-2 on her back.
PIERCINGS: Both her earlobes the once and her left cartilage.
PLAY-BY: Ebba Zingmark!
LIKES: classic video games, wash in/out dye, science, video game music, going home, swimming in the river, summer, playing with her hair, wearing glasses, books, nachos, energy drinks, longboarding, rollerblading, gingerbread, the subway, sneakers, shorts, fast food, braids, beaches, Ireland, strawberries, milkshakes, hats, walking, unique bars, purple, surprising people, horses, Ireland at Christmas, being ginger, her teeth, getting dirty, dirt bikes, goofy sweatshirts, hoodies, novelty items, bad jokes, candy-canes, thunderstorms, dried apricots, all-nighters, zombie apocalypse, sci-fi movies.
DISLIKES: pork, beauty pageants, judgemental people, itchy skin, sunburn, bullies, hangovers, hurricanes, getting grumpy when she’s sleepy, people who make a big deal out of a date, most actresses in horror movies, losing her Wi-Fi connection, stomach aches, waiting rooms, mood swings, Leonardo DiCaprio, people asking too many questions about her family, PDA, girls who don’t shut up about their boyfriends, fancy designer clothing, early mornings, driving in the city, chocolate icing, over the top nightclubs, chapped lips, sympathy from strangers, being spoken down too.
FEARS: car crashes, sharks, “fake” friends who turn on her.
SECRETS: She’s scared of marriage in case it ends in a messy divorce and the childhood she had herself for her own kids, and despite her tomboy attitude to most things, her favourite movie is Pretty Woman. She keeps the DVD hidden inside an old textbook she hasn’t used since high school.
PERSONAILTY: Caoimhe is almost always happy. She’s a bubbly character who tries to remain optimistic even when everyone around her is stressed and angry. She’s could probably be described best as a tomboy, but so could most girls who grew up in a household like hers. She’s fun-loving and craves the things out of the ordinary. She’s more comfortable with her own company than as part of a huge group, but she’s not shy at all, just prone to saying something inappropriate. Caoimhe is modestly clever but not quick to catch on with social interactions, like flirting or subtle gestures from friends. She’s surprising and spontaneous, ready to grab someone’s hand, whisper “run” and whisk them off on a crazy adventure. She’s an emotional person, but not in the sense that she cries at the least little thing. If Caoimhe is upset or angry or happy then she’ll show it and her heart is always worn on her sleeve. She’s a passionate person when it comes to her hobbies, especially her video games. She’s proud, but only of her heritage and where she hails from. She’ll not stand for anyone badmouthing Ireland or Louisiana and considers both of them a part of her. She’s inexperienced when it comes to romance and big cities, but she’s not naïve. She had two older brothers drumming enough sense into her back home to let someone take her for a ride now. Caoimhe is friendly and will help anyone out, but she won’t be used as a doormat. She can also seem like she’s being nosey or intruding, when she’s just really trying to find a way to help. After being bullied for the majority of her life, she’s tough, but not invincible; there are certain things that still break her. She still has her insecurities and while she can say that she’s comfortable in herself, she’s still one to worry about how others see her, especially if there’s a party or a reason to be dressed up. Caoimhe was raised in a laidback home and because of this she can be pretty childish at times, a little too used to that atmosphere. She’s a goofy girl with a big heart, but it’s got more than a few cracks in it.

HISTORY: Sam and Roisin had a “love at first sight moment” which turned into a shock pregnancy, a quick wedding before she was showing and then came along the twins. Roisin was originally from Portumna, Ireland but had travelled to America for the road trip of her dreams. She hadn’t expected to meet a man, let alone a guy who worked at his family’s bar in the middle of some small town in Louisiana. Still, she stayed, they tried to make it work and those attempts to find the spark that had attracted them in the first place resulted in Caoimhe. Sam like the beauty of the Irish names, even with their complicated spellings and it was Roisin’s way of keeping her children in touch with their heritage; something she felt they ought to know about.
Unfortunately, Caoimhe has no memories of her parents actually being together. The couple divorced when she was still learning the difference between “woof” and dog. Roisin stayed in Columbia for another two years, but moved back to Portumna when Caoimhe was just four. Things were just too complicated for her, she missed home and her financial state was not for the best. The divorce was messy, but the children all stayed with Sam and the holidays were spent in Ireland, meaning they sort of had two celebrations for everything when they were growing up.
Caoimhe only had to mention her Irish heritage for people to understand the genetic lottery she had won. Fair skinned with fiery red hair, Caoimhe had to be extra careful under the Louisiana sun, but her dad lathered her in sunblock and sent her out to play with her brothers at the back of their house. Their house might not have been a mansion and there were endless battles over the two bathrooms in the mornings, especially once her uncle’s Isaac and Shane moved in with them to help out with the family business and the child rearing. It was home to them though and even after a terrible storm they would gather together with the tools to clear away debris or fix the dock out back. Living on the river had its perks; mainly a cool, refreshing swim whenever they felt like it and fresh fish for dinner most nights! She had a really close relationship with all of her family from her dad, to her brothers and her Uncles; even today, Isaac is “Uncle Iss” because she could never pronounce his name when she was a little girl.
She loved the trips to Ireland, too. It was such a different place to Columbia that it took her first few visits to get used to it, but she saw snow and got to experience a whole different side to her life and her family, meeting her maternal grandparents and aunts. The culture, the people and the accent were completely baffling, but as she grew up it became a part of her and something she couldn’t let go of. Her grandparents taught her and her brothers Irish Gaelic and she learnt so many other things about the family history, her name and the old beliefs of Ireland.
Back in Columbia, school proved to be one of the hardest challenges for little Caoimhe. In such a small town everyone knew everyone’s business and children heard things they never quite understood at such a young age. The bullying started on her very first day and it lasted right the way through all twelve years of school. Some days it was her frizzy hair, other days she was “a ghost”, she had a weird family, at times they brought her divorced parents into the equation…none of it was pleasant and she hated getting up for school in the mornings. Luckily, Caoimhe had her big brothers and their friends to sweep in and save the day. The boys three years older than her always welcomed her into their antics and after growing up in a male-centric household, she seemed to fit in perfectly with whatever they had planned. These were the days where her love for video games came from, where she learnt to ‘blade and ‘board and where she discovered a fascination for anything related to biology since they spent a lot of time digging around at the river edge and taunting each other with the critters there.
The early teenage years also chose to arm those bullies with more ammunition. She got her slightly taller than average height when she was young, putting her a head above the cute and petite girls in her class. Her long hair was still wild as it could be and then she needed braces to contend with the slightly larger teeth she had. Caoimhe had also worn glasses in the classroom since she was six and that did not help matters eithers, especially not when the girls were finding make-up and filling out and Caoimhe was rather awkwardly there, preferring to dissect a frog and then beat her brother’s asses at whatever video game they had chipped in to buy that month.
On the weekends she helped out at home with any chores or work there, but sometimes she waitressed at her dad’s bar that he ran with her uncles. By the time she was fourteen, Jackson had moved out and had a family of his own, but he was still around on a regular basis to cause mayhem and trouble with his brothers. She loved her life away from the bullies and while her brothers still loyally fought in her corner, she found the parents and the adults of the small town to be as pleasant as could be. Caoimhe was never a troublemaker and any trouble she did get in was usually blamed on her big brother’s and her dad just rolled with that and then gave her a wink and ruffled her hair. Sam was a brilliant father and gave his three children room to grow and be who they wanted to be.
When Caoimhe was fifteen, Roisin remarried. This time it was to an Irish man called Shane who had been through the messy divorce himself several years earlier and who had a daughter of his own; Phoebe. It only took Caoimhe one look to realise that the girls would never have anything in common and she was right. Phoebe would sit on her phone, rolling her eyes whenever Caoimhe and her brothers had their playful fights at the dinner table or teased each other in the morning. The Irish girl couldn’t understand that the three siblings had strong accents that were interchangeable, but after spending so many years dividing the years between Portumna and Louisiana, it was inevitable to pick up something of an accent from both. Caoimhe tried to make an effort and went out with Phoebe and her friends once or twice, but she just wasn’t into shopping, gossiping and partying like they were. She got on okay with her new step-dad, as did Cian and Rowan, but he was always bemused by their antics and forever curious about Caoimhe being raised in a male dominant family back in Louisiana.
High school was tough and full of choices and decisions and Caoimhe still had bullies to contend with. However, the final two years were when things began to change. Her braces came off and while the size of her teeth was always going to be a part of her life, the overbite was minimalized and her teeth were straight. They still rest on her bottom lip now when she’s not speaking/eating, but Caoimhe loves them. She stayed gangly and thin framed, but seemed to grow into her features more. It wasn’t like she became a beauty queen overnight, but there was a confidence instilled in her that had never been there before. It was enough to let her branch out a little more on her own. She picked up more shifts at the bar waitressing and she joined the school science club. Caoimhe started to have a life away from her brothers, though they were still crazy close, as were her uncles.
Caoimhe didn’t have a date for senior prom, but the point was that she went. Her dad and her uncle insisted on it and gave her the money to go and buy a dress and “anything else proms require”. She had to admit that the night was worthwhile, even with the few cruel remarks here and there and the constant fiddling she did with the dress she chose to buy with the help of her close friends. When she got home Sam was waiting up for her and they sat on the front porch to their modest home. He told her all kinds of stories about his life, about when Caoimhe was a baby and nearly all of them had the ginger girl crying with laughter. The sun was rising by the time he finished and he told her how proud he was of her. Sam knew that Caoimhe had it tough growing up, but she had never once blamed him or Roisin and that had been his biggest fear; that his baby girl would hate him. It got a little cheesy after that and Caoimhe tried to get Sam to stop before she turned the same shade as the morning sky, but he carried on and told her that she didn’t need a crown or a prince to be his little princess. She punched him in the arm at that point, but appreciated the sentiment. She had never really stopped to think about how Sam had coped raising the three of them and running the bar, but that morning as she finally crawled into her bed she realised that it couldn’t have been easy. Hell, he probably dreaded the thought of raising a teenage girl and had probably let out a sigh of relief when he realised she was as rough and tumble as they came.
However, daddy’s little princess had to grow up sooner or later and unfortunately for Sam, Caoimhe was leaving the nest almost before he could blink. With her brothers both at nearby colleges and Cian more than willing to inherit the bar into the third generation of Monroe sons, Caoimhe saw college as a chance to spread her wings a little more. She made decent grades in school, could score pretty high when she really applied herself to her studies and with her love for biology still strong she found herself buying an NYU hoodie and making the move to the bustling city.
Her dad and uncles paid for a small apartment in a student building for her and while it was pretty much one long open plan room and a bathroom, it was perfect. She found a job waitressing to get the extra money for books and treats and while she’s missing her family loads, she’s never really felt happier.
