Stevie was shaking. She couldn’t remember the last time she was shaking from fear. Maybe it was when Melody flipped out on her for claiming the bounty on her boyfriend. Stevie hadn’t spoken to her sister since then, the cold memory of their final words replaying in her head as her fingers traced the M tattooed on her wrist. But this wasn’t about her sister, though Stevie was starting to wonder if at the end of this road was the loss of her brother. If Greg was to ever discover the truth about his little sister and his best friend Stevie didn’t think it would be this way. Normally, when her life cracked and crumbled it was Greg she turned to, but this time he was the one person she wanted to avoid.
At first, she hadn’t given the missed date on her calendar much thought. It had been a stressful month with few cases and a broken shower that two plumbers didn’t seem to be able to fix until the second saw the arsenal that Stevie referred to as her work uniform. It was a complicated fix, and she had landed herself with the two laziest New York plumbers that Google could find. It was her typical sort of luck. When another date rolled by and went, then Stevie had started to worry. Eventually, talking herself into buying a pregnancy test and saying it was a waste of her hard-earned cash, Stevie bit the bullet. And by the time all was said and done she might have actually preferred to bite a bullet. Her fears were confirmed in a little blue cross. She didn’t know how long she sat on her bathroom floor after that, only knowing that it took her screaming “fuck” to lift her from it.
She had to tell Blair. At this point he was likely used to her dropping by unannounced, which was exactly her plan this time. She couldn’t handle a text conversation that would likely follow if she sent him a courtesy heads up; even though she knew that it would probably be better to do so after Greg almost caught them out in their little agreement that one time. No, Stevie needed the time to think. She wasn’t in a relationship with Blair – they had never discussed anything of the sort. He was free to flirt and socialise with other women and she could do the same with the men. It had just happened to be that there had been no other men, only Blair; but they weren’t dating, not by any means. It was just scratching a mutual itch…that had now resulted in a surprise neither of them was expecting.
She felt sick to her stomach as she knocked on his apartment door. This was not a conversation she had prepared herself to have. It wasn’t even a situation she had ever envisioned herself in. Stevie honestly didn’t know what to do and she wouldn’t have any kind of answer for it until she spoke to Blair. For once she needed to be in his apartment and not touch him. She felt a little bad as she realised, she couldn’t remember the last time that had happened. There had always been touching, even if they had to wait for Greg to leave and make excuses for it. It was a fast reoccurring itch after all. Oh, she wanted a drink, but of course she couldn’t have one. It was a cruel twist of fate that the one thing that could make this just a smite easier was the one thing she could no longer enjoy. If there was ever a way to kick a girl when she was down, taking bourbon out of the equation was definitely it. The time it took for Blair to open the door felt like a lifetime, though Stevie knew that, in actuality, it had been less than a minute. The second she saw his handsome face, however, she wished the door was closed again. “Do you have food?” She blurted out. If Stevie couldn’t drink away her feelings, maybe she could eat them away instead.
