PIERCINGS: Ears and a septum.
PLAY-BY: Nathalie Emmanuel!LIKES: Netball, working out, yoga retreats, celery juice, hot baths with oils, chocolate milkshakes, buttery croissants, a balanced diet, granola bars, folky blues music, crime TV shows, sports bra, leggings, tropical cocktails, dark blue, the Caribbean, trying new things, spontaneity, competition, cold brew, green tea and lemon, the summer, Christmas with friends and family.
DISLIKES: Feeling lonely, injuries, songs that are always playing on the radio, gossip magazines, when Spotify suggests utter crap, the damp, fat on her meat, her hair misbehaving, heavy reads, Margareta pizzas (too plain!), heavy jewellery, her bag being cluttered, predictability, waiting on someone else, doing nothing all day, boiled rice.
FEARS: Never playing again, being paralysed, rats.
SECRETS: She used to be in a relationship with a American Football star. However, she didn’t like living on her tiptoes, trying to keep the media from finding out, so she ended things. He’s still a good friend, but she never mentions that they dated.
PERSONALITY: Energetic and athletic are good places to start when describing Clara. She’s optimistic and driven so she’ll always chase that next target or goal with everything she can give it. Competitive, Clara doesn’t see anything wrong with a little friendly rivalry and competition. She thinks it keeps her striving for better. She’s the adventurous friend who will rope everyone into some trip that will involve adrenaline rushes and trying things they never thought they would. Clara is the girl with the pep talks and the pick me ups. She’s a social butterfly, embracing almost everyone who comes into her orbit. She’s a lover and not a fighter, but at the same time she has no room in her life for someone who is truly horrid to another – especially for no reason beside their own prejudices. She’s confident in the choices that she makes and believes in turning any mistakes into a positive experience. She’ll admit when she’s wrong, but won’t be a doormat for anyone. She’s tough and independent and while she loves her friends and family she doesn’t need them to hold her up through the darker hours. Spontaneous, Clara can’t stand people who are predictable. So, when it comes to romantic relationships, she likes someone who is fast paced, who can keep her on her toes from one date to the next. She doesn’t dream of that cookie cutter lifestyle, but rather one where she gets to fall passionately, and madly in love while chases adventures.[ MOTHER: Renata Harriet Sculley, 57.
FATHER: Dennis James Sculley, 64.
SIBLINGS: Marcus Liam Sculley, 30.
Heather Rachel Sculley, 21.
OTHERS: N/A.
PETS: Grey African Parrot, names Calypso. She’s had her since she finished college!
HOMETOWN: She’s reluctant to name a place “home” after growing up all over, but the place of her birth was Westminster, London.
HISTORY: Renata met Dennis through politics. She was a junior secretary often chasing lost memos and doing coffee runs and he was part of the British Consulate. At the time they met he was in London, working with parliament on deals and fixing situations involving criminals evading justice in other countries. She spilt coffee on him in a crowded elevator. It was embarrassing for her, but he thought her endearing and asked her out for dinner when they next met in the elevator a few hours later.
Over the years they squeezed in dates around letters and work far away from home. They married over a short summer, in a wedding entirely planned by Renata and his mother, since hers had passed when she was just thirteen. The pregnancies that followed were again a lonely affair with a lot of firsts being missed by the father due to his parliamentary commitments. Still, the three children they had all knew who their father was and loved him more than anything else in the world. He wrote to them, called when he could, and when he was home he devoted every hour of his time to them and his wife.
Clara, the middle child, was born in London, but over the years she saw and lived in several countries as her father was moved around the consulates and climbed the ladder of success. She saw Europe in all its glory, adored Italy in the summer, and hated Russia no matter the time of year. France was not as romantic as people claimed, and Austria was very drab. Moving around so much, even when you got to live in fancy houses and enjoy expensive dinners with apparently important people, was very lonely. Schools and languages were different and by the time you made friends it was time to say goodbye to them again. That was why Clara found sports. They were easy to fall into from one school to the next, and she was able to play outside of school, too. Even something as simple as running kept her from getting too angry whenever they did get the news that it was time to relocate again.
Clara made it through the school system and chose to go to New York for college. America was a place she had been to only at Christmas when she was fourteen and she had been left wanting more of it. She wanted to study Physical Therapy and Sports Psychology. She played Netball for NYU, and in her Senior year was asked to represent the English National team after being scouted. She was thrilled, and having medals to her name, competing globally was so surreal she could barely believe it was happening. She trained with the team in England, but also had a routine in New York to keep up with during the off season. When she wasn’t playing she also began working as a Personal Trainer in the gym where she had been working out since she was eighteen. She had the certification to do so, and they were glad to add another female to their numbers since some of the men were known to be a little intimidating. Clara, however, wasn’t put off by them. In fact, she won half of her clients by publicly competing with the men in the gym. Time trials on the rowing machine, or burpees, weight sets, or cross fit practice were all things she loved to challenge them to. Sometimes she won, other times she lost, but it caught the eye of the people working out in the gym and made them see that a woman who was essentially tiny in comparison to some of the PT’s, who looked like they were professional body builders, could still keep up with them.
Her little sister came to live with her when she went to school, and Clara is glad to have someone to feed Calypso while she’s away competing. They were always close, so it’s good to have that back now. Heather has finished with school, but doesn’t seem to be in a hurry to find her own place and Clara isn’t going to pressure her either. It’s nice to have the company sometimes, whether it’s for a night in with bad movies, or to drag her out to the best bars.
