PIERCINGS: None.
PLAY-BY: Harvey Newton-Haydon!LIKES: casual gym sessions, naked burgers, chocolate milkshakes, Pokemon Go, celebrating with friends, psychology books, bookworms, cinema trips (really the only time he watches movies), old records, the music his mother listened to, big dogs, waffles, his ‘World’s Greatest Dad’ mug, laying in bed after a shower with music playing, black ink pens.
DISLIKES: Rough days at work, pulling a triple, being nagged, smart shoes, pigeons, uncomfy beds/chairs, choirs singing, lunchtime rushes, unknown wires, cold coffee, driving in silence, the touch of anything slimy, girls with too long nails/false eyelashes that are huge, staying up too late, being without chewing gum, grocery shopping.
FEARS: Pigeons, isolation, ghosts.
SECRETS: Quaid is convinced he saw a ghost when he was a child. He was six and a woman covered in blood had tried to encourage him to leave the part of the campsite he had been on with his family. Instead Quaid had screamed, she had screamed and then she was gone. His mother told him no one was there, that he had been asleep inside the tent, but he’s never been able to accept that it was just a dream. He found out later on that there had been a murder not far from that campsite twenty years before, but he didn’t look any further than that out of the fear of seeing that face again.
PERSONALITY: Quaid is a bold man. He’s not the type to shy away, and with his job that’s not really an option anyway! He’s confident and reliable. He hates letting people down, and does his best to always be the best kind of person. He’s aware that he has faults though. He craves company and hates being isolated. It’s why he’ll fill his apartment with music or cling to a relationship. It’s not that he’s rushing through his life looking to settle down, he just doesn’t enjoy being alone. He’s a sentimental kind of guy, but it’s not always so obvious since he keeps a lot of his personality to himself. Quaid, despite his confidence, finds it difficult to talk openly about himself sometimes. He’s disciplined and calm; not the type to lose his cool in a panic. Quaid considers himself to be a practical guy, not just in problem solving, but also in doing. He likes to get in there and work on a job himself, so long as he’s not totally out of his depth on something. He’s a proudful guy, and not the type to back down if someone badmouths him or the people in his life. Quaid’s luck in romance has been mediocre. He’s had a few relationships, but he’s yet to find someone he feels that special kind of companionship with. That’s what matters to him. He’s not big on expensive dates and huge gestures, but he prefers the calm, the simple. To him, love is being curled up on the couch reading together at the end of a long day, full stomachs and tired eyes.MOTHER: Nellie Ann Morton, 61.
FATHER: Michael Brock Morton, 62.
SIBLINGS: Celina Harper Jones, 35
Brock Liam Morton, 32.
OTHERS: N/A.
PETS: He has a Husky called V.
HOMETOWN: Pittsburgh, Pensylvania.
HISTORY: Nellie and Michael met through friends, but they were shy with each other at first. Then Michael found out Nellie was quite a loud person, full of surprises, and he loved her even more for it. They dated casually for some time until a flirtatious guy at a bar pushed Michael over the edge into admitting that he wanted Nellie to himself. After that, things moved at a pretty steady pace for the pair. They moved in together, had the New Year engagement, and were wed a year after the coming spring. The children came after a year of wedded bliss.
Quaid was the youngest, and usually at the mercy of his older siblings. They weren’t particularly cruel to him, but they often tried to blame him for broken things and messes made in the family home. Nellie rarely bought it, but they still ran circles around the little boy who was just trying to keep up with them.
At school he was kind of left alone. Quaid had friends, but he was always considered a quiet kid. His siblings had blasted through the world before him and he was a kind of exhausted replica of them. He just showed up, got his work done and went home again. He only really came out of his shell in high school where he was pushed more by his teachers as they set the path for the future of their students. Quaid was always fairly tight lipped about his future plans, only ever saying that he wanted to go to college and study psychology. Everyone thought it a fine plan, and expected that he was going to come out of this and go into a psychology profession.
That wasn’t at all what Quaid had planned though.
He went to college in New York, mostly to go somewhere people wouldn’t know his family. He loved his siblings, but being the youngest he felt like there was so much weight on his shoulders to be like them. Celina had been top of her classes, outspoken, and an advocate for every underdog she met. Brock was a science genius, even if that meant he set fire to the back yard a few times more than their parents actually knew about. But Quaid wasn’t like either of them. He wanted to be his own person, and his dream had been in his head ever since he had overheard a conversation at the grocery store when he was still young enough to be sitting in the cart. Over the years he had moulded that dream, read up on how to achieve it best, and he knew he wanted to go into it fully prepared rather than be one of those whimsical souls who dived headfirst into what would end up being a whirlpool, and a disaster.
So, for four years he sat in those lecture halls, had study groups, made friends, and when it was all over he signed up to be a Corrections Officer. Needless to say plenty of people were shocked. Some even thought he was throwing away his education. However, Quaid had always known that this was the route for him. He wanted to help reform prisoners, or for those who were beyond help, simply be one of those guys who kept the public safe from them. He had wanted the psychology background so he could help better, to allow him to perhaps understand those prisoners more when he went in there. He wasn’t going to be their agony aunt, but he knew that every situation was difference. Sometimes an aggressive personality is just a front for their own hurt. Quaid didn’t want to be a bad guy to those in the cells, but he also wanted that firm divide between prisoner and officer.
After he was through his training and probation, Quaid took a job at Metropolitan Correctional Facility. He’s been there ever since, becoming one of the most reliable members of the team. He takes newbies under his wing to show them all the ropes of correctional life, and he can diffuse a lot of situations in a very short time. Of course, there’s been violence, but he’s not once been put off his job or anything that it entails.
