AGE: Twenty-one
GENDER: Female
SEXUALITY: Straight.
STATUS: Single.
GROUP: Student.
GRADE: Junior.
MAJOR: Fine Arts.
JOB OCCUPATION: Whitney Tour Guide.HAIR: It’s bleached so she can dye it blue – which is mostly how it’s seem. Sometimes she’ll leave it blonde for a while though. Naturally it’s darker, but she hasn’t seen that in years. She wears it in big waves and curls most of the time, keeping it around her shoulders.
EYES: Brown.
SCARS/BIRTHMARKS: None.
TATTOOS: “for your love is better” on the inside of her arm.
PIERCINGS: Five in one ear, along with her helix, and one in another. She has her septum pierced too.
PLAY-BY: Kimmy Schram!LIKES: Painting, the colour blue, EDM, matte lipsticks, Vanitas work, cologne, night time walks with coffee, relaxing outside, meditation, fresh cookies, strong coffee, pyjamas, long sleeves, ankle boots, bacon bits, a warm bed, messy hands, chocolate pudding, gin, romantic stories, weddings, springtime, bookstores, art exhibitions, her patchwork blanket, ballet shoes, seafood.
DISLIKES: the thought of motherhood, dwelling on the future, big spiders, stiletto heels, early morning classes, ignored text messages, awkward family gatherings, phone at the dinner table, women’s perfume, guns, falling asleep early, horror movies with excessive gore, clutch bags (what even fits in them?), phone calls to strangers, original coca-cola (she prefers diet).
FEARS: Big spiders, regretting her life choices when she’s older, having children.
SECRETS: Her fear of children comes from her own childhood with her parents. She considers herself the reason they stopped being so free and fun, and while they’ve never said anything explicitly she feels like there are times when they regret having her. She’s ended up terrified that a child of her own will make her feel the same way.
PERSONALITY: Tilly is the creative type, with a bit of a quirky edge to her that can confuse some people. For example, her preference to wear men’s cologne over women’s perfume is “weird” to some, despite her simply preferring the smell herself. Or her dislike for morning classes yet insisting on staying up most nights until the sunrise – she just won’t go to sleep early if she can help it! She’s caring, and the non-confrontational type. Many might consider Tilly to be an introvert, but she’s surprisingly the type to go wild in the crowd at a music festival or similar event. She can party hard for a quiet girl, and can shock people with the things she’s experimented with and gotten up to. Tilly prefers to keep to herself until she knows someone extremely well, so that’s often why people can be surprised by her. She’s self-reliant, and almost insists on doing things herself after the way she grew up. She’s got a sentimental and philosophical side though, and that’s where most of her art comes from, as well as many of her late night conversations with those fortunate enough to be around then. She’s insightful and rather empathetic which makes her a great source for advice, even if she seldom takes it herself. It’s only small, but she does have a stubborn streak over a few certain things, mostly to do with herself and her own life choices. She’s a romantic dreamer, but the application of that often fails. She’s not afraid of some casual flings, but at the same time, she does hope that there’s someone out there who can understand her and love her all the same.MOTHER: Amanda Moore-Twigge, 51.

HISTORY: No one particularly liked calling Tilly a mistake or an accident, but that was what she had been. Amanda and Deacon had married in their early twenties, and their jobs meant they could afford to travel a lot, to combine work with pleasure, and generally enjoy a lifestyle many gave up when they got married. They threw the big parties, had the nights out without worrying what time they got home, and lived from one moment to the next. They were the loved up couple who always had stories to tell about the places they had been and the things they had been doing. It all changed when Amanda fell pregnant.
They didn’t regret their daughter, but perhaps they longed for the life they had before a little too much – and while the impressionable Tilly was within earshot. They weren’t bad parents, but no one would call them the best either. Sometimes Amanda lost her temper over the tiniest of things, and Deacon could be absent at times. They never meant any harm, but they were free spirits who had suddenly been weighted down by a baby. They loved their daughter – their Tilly Twigs – but they just struggled to find a balance between the life they had and the life that was now theirs. Tilly, as a result, spent a lot of time as she grew up keeping out of the way of both Amanda and Deacon. She would play in the back yard or her bedroom, keeping herself very much to herself. She had friends, but never bothered her parents with mentions of sleepovers and trips together. Amanda always invited her class when she had a birthday, and they had parties every year, but Tilly didn’t want to be more of a burden when they could spend their weekend with movie rentals while Tilly slept, or drew in her bedroom.
It was in her room that her passion for art was born. Tilly could spend hours drawing and painting, ever since she was a toddler. Her parents paid for a good private school where she could really hone her natural talent as well as getting a fine education. Tilly was a quiet girl growing up, and it was hard to get much information from her at times. She would speak the bare minimum if she could get away with it. Only when she was seventeen, fascinated by Gerard who transferred in did she begin to express herself more. He was a poetic type, full of wonderful ideas and grand theories about the cosmos. Tilly adored listening to him when they were all hanging out in their little friendship group. It opened her eyes to philosophers of the past, and let her see just how big the world was.
That also made her realise just how much her parents gave up when she was born. She felt like she was the reason they had stopped seeing the world. They went out more when she was old enough to look after herself, but Tilly knew it wasn’t the same as it once had been. So, when she was seventeen she moved out. Her parents went mad at the thought of their daughter sleeping on a sofa bed in some boy’s place, but her friendship with Gerard had never approached anything further. His parents paid for his own apartment as they were retired and cruising the globe – much like Tilly believed her parents wanted to do. She promised that she would still go to college, that she wasn’t pregnant and that it was her choice. She finished up school, kept in touch with her parents through text messages and the odd phone call, but she wanted to give them back what she had taken from them.
Moving out had been interesting. Gerard was a wonderful friend, full of ideas and evening conversations. He turned Tilly into a night owl and introduced her to good coffee. A lot of her personality grew from him being a part of her life, though they didn’t make it common knowledge that she was staying with him. Gerard wasn’t comfortable with people knowing he had been living alone, save for a maid who came once a week, for quite some time. He was popular and confident, but not the type to throw wild parties or encourage trouble.
Tilly chose New York for college because the idea of being lost in a sea of people thrilled her. She was at her best place in a crowd (though usually with music racing through her veins). New York was perfect for her. She got accepted to NYU and said her goodbyes to Gerard and other friends, as well as her family. She got a small studio apartment after a year in dorms, and supported herself with savings and a job she loved. She’s been known to surprise people she meets with her odd quirks and strangely confident hobbies (such as wandering the streets at night with a coffee and a cookie). Still, Tilly is happy here, and she feels like she might be coming into her own now as she sets out to wrap up her Fine Arts course and see what the future holds for her.
