MAJOR: N/A.
JOB OCCUPATION: Microbrewery Owner.HAIR: Blonde, also lightened more, shorn in at the sides and longer on the top. Sometimes he wears it swept to the side, other times he chooses to have it high to make him appear extra tall (Or he’s just ran his fingers through it when the wax is still pliable)
EYES: Light blue.
SCARS/BIRTHMARKS: None worth talking about.
TATTOOS: None.
PIERCINGS: None.
PLAY-BY: Tom Bull!LIKES: Cooking, vegan dishes, brewing, the summer, beach barbecues, mushrooms, fresh oranges, cacti, cats, red hair, testing new recipes on friends, listening to music in the dark, adventure novels (when he finds the time to read), being busy and organised, morning coffee, his coffee machine (couldn’t survive without it), sort of collecting mugs.
DISLIKES: Unsolicited advice, feeling like he’s forced to explain himself, rats, floral furniture/wallpaper, someone else cooking in his kitchen (but he’ll grit his teeth if he must), heavy tv shows, dry skin, powerful scented candles, tension in his back (he suffers often after a bike accident when he was 22), running late for appointments, mint tea.
FEARS: rats, his kitchen being destroyed/moved around without his consent, finding himself hating cooking.
SECRETS: He’s not actually an overly devout vegan. It’s mostly because he’s allergic to milk and dishes happened to fall in the “vegan” branch when he was dining out with family. After that, he learnt to cook that way, making things to suit his tastes. Meat just happened to fall out of his life through that path, but Henry will get a food cart burger if he’s been out drinking all night. Mostly though, he’s pretty happy with the replacement options he has served/suggests to others. If he didn’t like it, he wouldn’t eat it!
PERSONALITY: Henry is a cheerful guy who greets everyone with open arms and a huge grin. He’s considerate of everyone else, and he enjoys meeting new people. He’s passionate and hardworking, preferring to keep himself busy both in his business and personal life. A dedicated dreamer, Henry isn’t afraid to leave his head in the clouds for a while and then jump up there too to achieve those dreams of his. He’s ambitious and keen; so he’s always up for a challenge and to try something new if his heart is in it. Henry is an energetic soul, and the type to drag everyone around him into that same energy place. Often, if he says he’s out until 4am, he can convince the 2am quitters to push on through with him. His mother says he has a contagious personality, able to pass his silly, happy or kind moods off onto those around him. He’s a little less keen on her talking about him like that, discovering when she does that he’s more modest about himself personally than he is when it comes to his career achievements. He looks out for the people in his life, be it jumping to their defence during a situation, being the shoulder to cry on when they need it, or just cooking them something at the end of a long day. He likes being there for people, but he’s not the type to force himself into places where he’s not wanted. Romantically, he’s suffered because his career hasn’t so much taken priority, but the last few years have required a good portion of his time, or else he wouldn’t have what he has today. He’s sweet though, putting in the kind of effort that often goes forgotten about in this age of technology. He prefers to cook a meal, spend a night together alone, be it at home or with a picnic basket somewhere. He can be a little picky when it comes to relationships, but it’s only because he doesn’t want to waste time with someone he doesn’t mesh well with. It’s not fair to both of them in his book. Plus, he needs someone who can be as supportive of him as he will be of them; he’s an Energizer Bunny of a man.MOTHER: Dorothea Penelope Blood, 55.
FATHER: Chester Andrew Blood, 60.
SIBLINGS: Katie May Blood, 24.
OTHERS: N/A.
PETS: Molly (Weasley), a ginger tabby of six!
HOMETOWN: Townsville, Queensland, Australia.
HISTORY: Dorothea and Chester met at their place of work. Chester was almost set to become part of the furniture at the television station. He was a familiar face to the viewers of the morning breakfast show on the local channel when they introduced Dorothea to the couch with him. She was a replacement for the previous host who was leaving on maternity and had chosen not to return to the show when she was ready to go back to work (whispers were she wanted a converted nightly news spot). Anyway, that was how Dorothea and Chester met, and their chemistry was undeniable. Chester had a wicked charm that kept him popular, and Dorothea had a youthful spark and ever so slight naivety that Chester teased her with on air. It kept the ratings high, kept the segments interesting, and eventually the two of them became an official couple off screen, too. They eloped one Christmas and announced the news to everyone with the morning show when Dorothea introduced herself as ‘Thea Blood’. It wasn’t long after that when she fell pregnant and they had their son, Henry.
Henry was a lively child who spent a lot of time with his grandmother when he was pre-school years. She came before he woke up and looked after him until just after lunchtime when his parents would come home. Henry loved baking with her, and she had a special box of recipes that she would let him choose from for his lunch. Unfortunately, he had been allergic to milk from birth and while doctors had hoped he might grow out of it like some newborns, Henry did not. So she adapted many of the recipes for him, making sure he was never sick from eating one of his favourite meals.
When Henry was six, his little sister Katie came along. She was a thorn in his side from the beginning and that never changed. She was always ruining his things and getting away with it because she was just a baby. She got the attention she demanded and often switched his praise to herself. He loved her, but she was a handful as a kid and that encouraged Henry to find his own independence and spend more time out of the home with friends, or working on his own projects in the safety of his bedroom where the door was blocked with a chair.
Henry loved cooking, and when his grandmother passed when he was eighteen, he inherited her recipe collection as well as a nice inheritance that he put into savings for one day in the future. Back then he thought he might have his own restaurant one day. He finished up school and went to culinary school, perfecting his craft there. He was the kid known for the vegan recipes and had resigned himself to a somewhat vegan lifestyle. His milk allergy was to blame for it. His family dined out a lot when he was growing up, and Henry could really only safely order from a vegan menu. After a while he was used to meat alternatives instead of the real thing, and he only knew his ‘safe’ variations of dishes. As such, he focused a lot on vegan dishes in school, since he wanted to find ways to make more alternative options for popular meals. Of course, people were horrified on the rare night out when he did crave a burger and just buy one. It made for a long explanation that Henry really didn’t much care to give. Dietary needs do not need to be preached about.
After working in a small restaurant in the town, he was approached by a customer. At first he was expecting some minor complaints – mountains out of molehill types – but the man was impressed in him. They chatted, and by the end of it, Henry had discovered that the man was actually a rather popular upcoming celebrity chef who was opening a new restaurant in New York, and was looking for chefs. He wanted Henry to come and help shape the vegan menu and then stay on.
It was the offer of a lifetime and he took the chance at once. He’d have been a fool not to. Surprisingly, Katie was devastated to see her brother go, and Henry realised that as annoying as she was, she had her good parts, too. The distance ultimately strengthened their relationship; an odd thing he was thankful for.
Henry worked in the restaurant for three years, and then he felt the spark vanishing. He didn’t want cooking to become a drag – he loved it too much. So he quit. He had no idea what he would do, at least not at first. Then a friend took him to a beer festival in the city and the idea for his microbrewery formed. They were talking after a few drinks and then Henry started on about how it was like cooking, but drinks. He basically made no sense thanks to the IPAs and brews they had shared, but the dream had begun to bloom. Shortly after he finally broke into that inheritance, plus downsized his apartment for more cash, and got a space to turn into his own microbrewery business. “Blood Sweat and Tears” Was a slow burning path, but it meant Henry got to cook for pleasure again, hosting dinners and parties for friends and even cooking for the launch event when he was happy to put his brew out there for the first time. Since then he’s taken on more staff, gained more experience, and has a steady contract flow with some of the bars in the city, considering expanding the business’s shipping range in the next year. He’s also started working on a vegan recipe book in his quiet time, mostly because he was tired of friends asking if he ate bland food, or how his food could taste so good when it lacked so much. He figured it would help people as much as it could help bring in extra money for his business.
His business is still in its infancy compared to some, but Henry believes it can go so far if he keeps putting in the time and energy without slacking off. He doesn’t regret quitting the restaurant industry, knowing that this is far more suited to him without costing him the passions he loves the most. Now, it’s just a matter of ensuring everything goes to plan, and if it does he might even find a little more time for himself.
