PERSONALITY: Once upon a time Journey believed in love and had so much faith in it. And then the woman he'd wanted to marry ran out on him. It left him quite jaded, unable to believe in love or have any faith when it comes to love and the fairer sex. She didn't just break his heart, she shattered his entire being. All that was left when he decided it was time to dig himself out from under the ashes was a workaholic without any real care in the world. If he wasn't working, he kept to himself, jogging or working out because he needed to keep busy. Though he loves to draw, he found himself repeatedly drawing his fiancée's likeness. Once upon a time he had considered himself a bit of a romantic, bringing flowers and gentlemanly gestures like holding open doors. He's a brilliant artist but these days the only things he draws are buildings for his job. He refuses to do anything else. He's absolutely heartbroken by the actions of the woman he'd intended to marry and spend the rest of his life with. HISTORY: Rose and Harvey met in the university library. She was a rebel without a cause, in the library to catch a nap and he was a studious little nerd with his eyes on the future. Rose was in his usual study nook and though it was the first time for Rose, it wasn't for Harvey. It was, however, the final straw for him and he threw his books down on the table, startling Rose awake. She fell right out of the chair and on her wrist, hearing a crunch. Rose cried out in pain and Harvey, feeling immediately guilty apologised and helped her to the medical center to have her checked out. From his limited experience, he didn't think it was broken but it was swelling up and looking rather painful. It took a long time and Harvey refused to leave Rose alone because he was to blame. They started talking, Rose brushed aside his apologies. It wasn't his fault, not really. She'd been told a dozen times not to use the library as her personal nap space and she'd been curled up awkwardly. Really, it had only been a matter of time, it just happened to be Harvey who woke her up.
He was so sweet and charming, Rose offered to buy him a coffee for taking care of her. Harvey, in a moment of boldness, suggested dinner instead; his treat. She agreed and met him at a local Italian place where they talked all night, stayed until they were kicked out and then moved from there to the park. One date turned into two which turned into three which turned into the pair moving into an apartment together after fourteen months, which turned into a white dress and a walk down an aisle after another two years. They were happy, blissfully so. Rose graduated with a law degree, something that had shocked Harvey when he'd found out about it. Turns out, Rose wasn't a rebel without a cause but a rebel with one. She wanted to save the world. Despite the craziness of taking the bar and then working as a junior associate at a law firm, Rose wanted babies and she wanted them close together. Harvey thought he was unbelievably lucky to have Rose in his life so he wanted to do anything to make her happy. They had their first son, only eleven months before their second, Journey.
Life seemed to be pretty good, at least from Journey's view of the world. He had toys, he had his parents and brother and he played team sports and enjoyed a good life. He was a smart kid with high grades and seemed to make friends easily as he grew up. His parents were part of the PTA, they helped out with fundraisers, bake sales and all the things the school expected from their student's parents. Another of the extracurriculars that wasn't listed though his father wholeheartedly took part in was sleeping with at least half the mom's of the PTA. As it turned out, the happy family and happy marriage Journey thought his parents had was all a damn lie. Oh, his mother was still very much in love with her husband, she was clueless about what was going on. She was a damn good lawyer, busy saving the world so she spent a lot of time at the office. Harvey was a banker and kept fairly regular hours which unfortunately gave him amble time to start hating his wife's booming career and even more time to find himself in a bed with the mother of his youngest son's best friend.
It all came to light in Journey's senior year of high school. Hawk went to school in New York so he wasn't around for any of it. Rose fell sick at the office and knew she couldn't stay there so she returned home, only letting Journey know that she would be there when he got in from school so to keep quiet and not blast the music that she knew he did frequently when he was home alone. Journey was in class so he didn't respond and that was usual but when she got home, she heard the music he preferred playing and thought he'd skipped school that day. She was furious and started up the steps to yell at him when she heard voices and laughter coming from her own bedroom; as was the music. Anger and dread mixed and filled her as she pushed open the bedroom door and saw, finally, what had been going on for ages. She screamed, she yelled, she tossed his clothes in a bag and threw it at him. The woman, a woman she'd considered a good friend, rushed around the room picking up her things before rushing out the door. She refused to let him stay in the house but Ohio was now filled with spoilt memories. Rose couldn't do it anymore and decided a transfer was in order. She was sent to New York where Hawk was currently living.
Journey had no idea about any of this either and it was all very overwhelming for him as well. He felt like his father didn't just cheat on his mother, but on the family. It was cruel. Journey considered going to school out of state but that would require putting his education on hold and reapplying to schools again. It was a dilemma. In the end, Journey couldn't bring himself to wait for school. So he took his acceptance to the Ohio State University, packed up his meager belongings into the backseat of his Honda and drove the two hours to Columbus. If he'd known what would happen between his parents, Journey would have tried applying to out of state schools but he'd naively thought his parent's marriage was solid and had wanted to be close to them both. After a while, Journey figured he would finish out school at go on to graduate school in New York. His grades were excellent, top of his class, he could continue on anywhere he wanted. That had been the plan. And then senior year he met Lulu. She was beautiful and clever and brilliant and Journey found himself falling very hard for her very quickly. Instead of moving on to New York for grad school, he opted to stay in Columbus. He was very happy spending his free time with Lulu, watching how her mind worked and listening to her work out the tunes and melodies of her songs. She was brilliant and he was completely enthralled.
Though it might have seemed like a surprise or a shock, Journey had thought about proposing to Lulu for a few months. He thought they were both happy with each other and he wanted to make it permanent. His parent's situation hadn't made him jaded or lead him to believe love was a lie because his parents had at one point been quite in love. Their smiles and looks had been captured in pictures through the years so he knew they'd loved each other once upon a time. He didn't plan it, just proposed one night while they were in the middle of nowhere, sitting outside the campervan he loved just as much as Lulu did. He wasn't expecting a quick engagement or long one either. He was just happy she'd said yes and he figured either she would or they would figure it all out as they went along. Neither of them were in a huge hurry and as long as Lulu was with him, he was okay with however long it took them to say "I do". Life went on, grad school was interesting and he felt like he was really learning more which was great. And then he was offered a good job at a local firm. Drawing had been a hobby of his and he was quite good with academic works so he'd considered architecture long before he'd attended university.
He wanted to provide for Lulu, give her a life where she could pursue her music without worry of having to find a nine to five to take care of the bills. She was incredible, very talented and he believed she would go far. He wanted to give her that. They had signed their name to a place of their own, had in filled with little bit and bobs that belonged to them, furniture that was nice but a mashup and he loved it. It was all so bohemian and he'd lived his life until then in very modern or contemporary themed homes. He hadn't known exactly what was going through her head whenever everyone was around and talking about the wedding. As horrible as it sounded, and it made him sick to his stomach to think about, he hadn't noticed how Lulu would look almost sick after returning from wedding things. He came home after work one day, with pleasant news to share. He'd been given the chance to plan, draw and create a building all his own; provided his plans were the ones the client chose. He was only a junior associate at the architecture firm so it was quite the chance. He walked in the door and hollered out to Lulu, wanting to share his news. He found her note in the kitchen and he fell to his knees in shock. She'd left him.
Journey was devastated, thinking it was all his fault. He was working so much and not paying nearly enough attention to the wedding things that was going on. He blamed himself for ages and then threw himself into his work so he would stop thinking about everything he could have done differently. As it turned out, his devastation over Lulu's leaving pushed his work over the edge, made it something the client wanted. Plans went underway and he worked with the client to make the building a reality. It only took about thirteen months and then there was a grand opening of sorts where they were able to fill what would become a mental health clinic with all the furniture and things. The bigwigs of the firm were pleased with Journey's work and offered in a new position; in New York. He took it, believing there was nothing left for him in New York and he could do with spending some time with his brother and mother. He had seen his father only a handful of times since he'd left his childhood home. And none of those because he'd initiated them. He packed up the house he'd been hoping to share with Lulu and then met the moving van in New York at the apartment his boss's assistant set him up with. It was spacious, nice and had all the space a single man in the city would need, especially when he worked as much as Journey did. He turned the second room into an office with all his things and filled the rest of the space as he found pieces he liked. It was a sad display for sure but Journey didn't need a ton of space alone. He wasn't interested in dating, he wasn't interesting in having much of a social life. He was there to work and do a damn good job. Sure, he attended the office functions but he never brought a date and never gave any real information as to why; just that he ran out of time or just forgot to ask someone. Both lies as he knew how much time he had and really didn't know anyone to ask. He knew his neighbours and his work friends, that was about it.
Now though, he's starting to have a bit more of a social life. At least in the sense that he'll go out with his neighbours to the local pub, or with his work friends after they'd just spent eight or more hours in each other's company, bitching and moaning about the clients they really didn't like to work with because they refused to see reason when one material just wouldn't work half as well as another option. It could be traumatic but Journey took it all in stride. He'd been through so much worse. But at least with his brother around, he was getting a little better, definitely laughing at lot more than he'd used to.
