EYES: blue.
SCARS/BIRTHMARKS: Her right ankle, both sides from surgery when it was broken and it needed to be surgically pinned back together.

DISLIKES: junkies, disappointing herself, when men overdo the cologne, fake tan that looks orange, the smell of sour milk, nightmares, perverted guys, gold jewellery, clowns, having her heart broken, wasps, feeling guilty, lying to people, people being upset because of her, liars, ‘bling‘, burning her cooking, being uncontrollably drunk, homewreckers.
FEARS: Wasps, Vic walking out of her life, not becoming something to be proud of.
SECRETS: No one knows she's taking online classes to pursue a law career.
PERSONALITY: Lyra is very open minded. Whether she‘ll eventually agree is something very different, but she is always willing to hear someone out or give something a try before judging it and even then she won‘t try to sway anyone else‘s opinion unless it‘s something dangerous. She‘s patient, with a calming presence and ready to wait for someone to calm down or come around whatever the situation. She‘s curious and always wants to know or learn more, which is why she can already speak/understand four languages and is keen to learn more. She‘s a loyal friend who will always defend and stick by those who she cares about the most. She‘s rather modest and doesn‘t take compliments or praise very well. She‘s never been one to talk about herself or long for the limelight, so she struggles to deal with it now when the rare occasion rises when it falls on her. She‘s the type of person who will always look happy on the outside, but might be feeling heartbroken or devastated on the inside. She doesn‘t like to weigh others down with her problems though, bottling them away until she can’t take anymore and can sometimes run away instead of facing up to them. She can be a confidant to anyone, but sometimes feels as though it is up to her to fix other people‘s problems which means there are many days when it seems as if she‘s carrying the world on her shoulders. She’s a total romantic but isn’t confident when it comes to matters of the heart, scared of what might happen. She’s an emotional girl but tries not to let others in on her own problems. She’s maternal too and loves children, though this mainly stems from raising her four younger brothers for most of their lives. She’s independent and strong and can very much take care of herself and the others in her life without too much thought. She likes to keep busy so that she feels useful, but sometimes she needs someone to pull her away and remind her that it’s okay to relax every once in a while and have fun for herself. Her ambition is what drives her, but at the same time there’s a wall that stops people from getting too close to her simply because she’s afraid of what will happen if she fails and lets herself down in the end.

HISTORY: Sophia and Anthony were happy in the beginning. Anthony was in law school when they met and they had big dreams of a happily ever after together. It changed slightly when Sophia wound up pregnant a little earlier than planned, but Anthony promised to do his best to make things as perfect as they could be. For a while, everything was good. He married Sophia in a family filled ceremony where Lyra was passed between relatives, cooing and crying as each one made her laugh or upset her. They had a modest home that gave them security and comfort, and Anthony started working at a law firm that promised him stability and career progression. Sophia worked daytime shifts at a popular local bar. She flirted to get her tips and while Anthony spoke up about being uncomfortable with it, she always told him he was being ridiculous and it was just a way to ensure she got some cash for herself.
Lyra was daddy’s little girl. She was all for Anthony and he was more than happy to have her colouring at the table with him pretending to be working with him when he was going over a case file, or making calls to the office. Sophia was jealous of the time they had together when Anthony wouldn’t take her out every weekend like some of her friends did. She didn’t like that his job was so important to him, or that his cases kept him up working late. He was still a good husband and father to everyone else to see though. He would play with Lyra while he was working, or chat with them all over breakfast. He made up for missed meals with a BBQ as soon as he had the chance, and took them away when he could. It just wasn’t a regular thing that they could go out for dinner on a specific night of the week, or make plans in advance when he was working on something big.
It was his job that got him killed. He was in court with a client when chaos broke out. A member of the victim’s family had somehow brought a gun into the proceedings and as the verdict was read by the jury foreman, he snapped. He fired until the clip was empty and five people lost their lives while four more were wounded. One of those who lost their lives was Anthony. He was trying to play the hero, protect his client and his co-worker, and in doing so took a bullet to the chest. He made it to the hospital but didn’t make it out of the surgery. Lyra was just nine when it happened, and from there her world took such a dramatic turn.
She was traumatised by the loss of her father, there was no questioning it. But Sophia pushed everyone away when she discovered that most of the money in Anthony’s will had keep locked into a trust for Lyra which was untouchable until she turned twenty-five. He had left enough to keep the home for the two of them, but he had always told the family that he would provide for Lyra’s future above all other things. In her rage, Sophia squandered the college fund that she did have access to. She didn’t want to have to work a real job with steady hours and training. She had married Anthony because he promised her a perfect life. Now she was left with a child who was in grievance counselling and who wouldn’t talk to her.
Sophia fell into a string of casual relationships by the time Lyra was a teenager. She moved from man to man as they satisfied her needs and demands. Lyra spend more and more time at the home of her best friend, Victoria. This wasn’t a problem since Vic’s family considered Lyra like a second daughter ever since the two met when they were just infants. It wasn’t uncommon for whole weekends to be spent at the Judd home, movies and shopping, with Lyra always helping to clean up after dinner even when she was told it wasn’t necessary. Her father had instilled a strong sense of good manners into her, and even when the rebellious years hit and Lyra took her first drag on a cigarette, she never forgot her please and thank yous.
Eighteen for Lyra meant freedom. She could get out of Wolfville and away from the mother who by now hated her more than anyone should hate their only child. Sophia had squandered the money she was entitled to, and had been forced out of Lyra’s childhood home into a pokey apartment. She hated that there was a reserve of modest wealth waiting for Lyra that had been untouchable for almost ten years, and would remain that way for another seven. Lyra didn’t care about money, but she was pissed that her college fund had been wasted. Even with working through high school she had nowhere near enough for what she dreamt of doing; following her father’s footsteps into law.
Still, with working two jobs, and classes, she managed to scrape by with a community college spot that she easily earned. Vic was off to become a vet, but Lyra just took some business classes and computer courses until she had the credits to graduate and then followed her friend to New York City where they moved into an apartment together. Lyra worked a few low level jobs until she was suddenly staring at the Vis Novo offices and shaking the hand of the owner of the whole corporation. He was impressed by what she could do and he wanted someone for a secretary after his left. He liked to give people a chance who wanted it, and Lyra caught his attention from application process. It had been a semi-drunken whim of hers, but one that paid off. With the huge pay bonus, and knowing she was coming into her trust fund money soon, Lyra began to do online classes to make her law dream a reality. She chose not to tell anyone about it – not even Vic – because she wanted to actually have it all in her hands before she let herself believe it was real.
