DISLIKES: Losing her temper over little things, chauvinism, a lot of American laws, sugar-free drinks, feeling tired, deadline weeks, dramatic people, fakes, watermelon, crusty bread, subway rides, running as a workout plan, most modern comedy movies (she’s sad about this), casseroles, blueberries, changing the bed sheets, hayfever, ragdolls.
FEARS: Ragdolls, anything bad happening to Romeo, her recurring nightmare about being left to drown.
SECRETS: Eleanora’s recurring nightmare is from a school trip when she was twelve. It was all fun and games in a water park, but when a boy dunked her under, he held her down just a little too long for Ellie’s liking. Ever since then she’s had this nightmare when she’s feeling strong emotions. She wakes up gasping for air and it’s left her uncomfortable in the water.
PERSONALITY: Ellie is a very strong minded young woman. She’s opinionated and smart; the kind who has research to back up why she thinks you’re so very wrong. She’s loud and crass and very much doesn’t care who knows it. Ellie believes in standing up for herself and other people. Definitely proud, Ellie is a firm feminist who believes in equality and who is strongly against quite a lot of the current laws and regulations that exist. Being British she’ll compare them to what she comes from, even if she actually has very few memories of the place. Short tempered like the rest of her family, Ellie isn’t one to hide how she feels when someone had gotten on her bad side. In fact, her brutal honesty is more likely to burn bridges than build them. She doesn’t want to give her time to those who will only waste hers though, so she thinks this is often better than the alternative of catty drama and pettiness. Despite what might seem like an extreme personality, Eleanora is actually a rather balanced individual. She’s just very passionate about the things close to her heart. Most of the time though, her laugh can be heard like a witch’s cackle across the campus. Despite this fun loving attitude, the one thing Ellie does not believe in, is love. Her parents never had it, and she considers her brother’s broken heart a huge red flag for it. Fairytales are for fools, and happily every after is a marketing ploy. Her own, albeit brief, high school romance went down in flames, and Ellie is now content to believe that relationships are simply about putting up with someone for as long as you can. “You scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours.” In other words, Ellie is only interested in someone who can keep her bed warm for a short while, but then she’ll grow bored of them if they want to push for something more. She isn’t about to have her heart broken over something so ridiculous as love.MOTHER: Lisa Marie Jervis, 46..
FATHER: James Henry Jervis, 47..
SIBLINGS: Romeo Jackson Jervis, 28.
OTHERS: Zoe Diana Tylers, 26.
PETS: None!
HOMETOWN: Liverpool, England.
HISTORY: By the time Eleanora was born, the Jervis family was already at breaking point. Another baby was not going to fix the mess that they were in. No love could be rekindled between Lisa and James, but they were grasping at straws and willing to try just about anything. Unfortunately, nothing in the universe could force two people together if they weren’t meant to be – not even an innocent baby. As such, the only real time Ellie ever felt truly safe and happy was when she was around her older brother, Romeo. He spent most of the time taking care of her, keeping her out of the small, dingy family home when their parents were fighting and dishes were being smashed.
Ellie had a few scraps as a kid, but Romeo covered for her best as he could. Most of the kids in her class had older brothers or sisters who knew Romeo, who liked him well enough to let it slide. Plus, it was something she grew out of with his help. By the time she was seven, Ellie was more interested in keeping quiet and playing with her books and what few toys she did have. Sometimes, if she was lucky, Romeo would let her join in with a football down in their local park.
Their mother got sick when Ellie was seven, too. Ellie was too young to really understand it all, but Lisa had bipolar disorder. Ellie understood it as her brain was poorly. She didn’t like Lisa not being home, because James’ temper was the worst one, and it was the one both children would come to inherit in the later years. She kept herself away from their father, not liking how he smelt of booze or how he flew into a range at the tiniest of things. She was young enough then to think it might all get better when Lisa came home from the hospital, but it didn’t. In fact, it got worse. Lisa wasn’t always in the right headspace to deal with everything that was happening at home and then suddenly there were plans to move to New York just because James’ cousin had done it and it had proven to be some success venture. Never mind that he was coming back to Liverpool before the end of the year, they had to copy him and go out there.
Ellie took a long time to settle in New York. She stuck out like a sore thumb with her different accent and the money she didn’t have when her classmates flaunted new things. Honestly, she wasn’t comfortable until she lived with Romeo. That didn’t happen until she was a teenage and her mother relinquished guardianship to him. Before that there was the incident when her father lost his temper and tried to throw a punch in Ellie’s direction, but Romeo jumped in. After all that trauma Ellie retreated into herself for a good few years, really only coming out of her shell when she was around her older brother.
The end of high school saw Ellie begin to find herself. She thought Romeo had found love with Zoe and she was beginning to date herself. That personal romance ended with a raging break up in the middle of a basketball game, and then she saw her brother’s own fairytale crumble. It turned the young woman’s heart to stone, to say something of the matter. Before Romeo’s breakup, Ellie was finding her voice, taking her first steps in the big world that followed high school. She was choosing to speak up for those who couldn’t after surviving a life of what could have been a hell of a lot worse. Afterwards, that infamous Jervis temper began to shine through. She championed every battle, picked up her brother as well as took on every underdog she found along the way. She was going to fight with them, and for them. This newfound identity has sometimes led to Ellie getting into trouble for being so vocal, but she doesn’t want to change who she is. She’s putting that terrible Jervis temper to good use.
