SCARS/BIRTHMARKS: If there are any left from his past they’re all covered in ink by now.
TATTOOS: He has Jesus and a crown of thorns on the very top of his head, roses on the side, and “Sinner” on the back. “21” is on his cheekbone for his little brother. “Hope” is on his neck along with an eye, a skull not-so-hidden in an owl, and a hand holding flowers. The back of his neck has the Grim Reaper going into an anatomical hand that extends to between his shoulderblades. His chest has roses with two guns, “Ride the Snake” over the top of it. He has two hands forming a heart shape over his navel, and The Eye of Providence beneath it, with a single bird on each side. From his shoulder to his elbow on his left arm, there are small birds flying above a gothic castle which is situated on his elbow. Below that stems a design of skulls and another knowing eye. On the knuckles of that hand is the year he was born and the word “loco”. His right arm is a more colourful array of characters and design that lead down to a blue rose on his hand, his birthdate on his knuckles and “born”. His legs are scattered in more skulls, portraits of family, and designs that carry memories of friends and places.

FEARS: small spaces, falling to his death, depression.
SECRETS: Some weekends he’ll just stay in bed watching cartoons and ignoring the world around him. It’s how he deals with stress, but he doesn’t mention it to people because they’ll worry or nag him about being closed off.
PERSONALITY: For a guy who works so hard to help others, Otis is incredibly guarded. He internalises a lot of his own problems because he doesn’t want other people interfering with his life. Otis is patient and tries to be understanding of other people and their problems. A brilliant listener, Otis will always make time for other people and their problems if they need him. What he’s not so good at is taking care of himself. He’s easily stressed, but won’t take the time to relax if there is still work to do or people who need him. He tries to keep his anger to himself, but eventually he will snap. However, he never takes his frustrations out on other people. Otis will smash up a room, accidentally cause himself an injury, but he won’t lash out at another person if he can help it. It’s a different matter entirely if he’s defending someone he gives a damn about. His friends are his life and he needs them around, so he’ll do anything to keep them safe. His protective side can be as scary as it is sweet. He doesn’t think much of love, but it’s only because his life has been void of it. Otis longs for that stable companionship, but at the same time it’s a scary, strange concept to him. Keeping things simple and not attaching labels and strings makes life so much easier. He needs more than that though to fill the hole in his chest.MOTHER: Jenny Louise Myers, 46.
FATHER: Bobby David Forrester, 48.
SIBLINGS: Johnny David Forrester, deceased.
Ciaran Bobby Forrester, 24.
OTHERS: N/A.
PETS: Benny, a gargoyle gecko!
HOMETOWN: Detroit, Michigan.
HISTORY: Jenny and Bobby were that dysfunctional high school couple who had screaming fights in the hallways, but ten minutes later could be caught making out and skipping class. No one was in the least bit surprised when Jenny started outgrowing her clothes in senior year. It really was only a matter of time before Bobby knocked her up in his old truck. Their first son, Johnny, was born right before Bobby did his first spell in the state jail. He was a petty criminal, doing it because it gave him a high like no other. He wasn’t a career thief, and getting caught was always because he was sloppy. Jenny was kicked out by her parents after the baby was born, and ended up in a trashed up apartment with her baby daddy, though the two never married. Their life was like high school never ended. They’d scream and fight something terrible, and then a little later they were all over each other; often with the help of something strong and liquor based.
Otis was their second son. Johnny was just shy of his third birthday when he became a brother, and he wasn’t keen on the idea very much. Otis took what little attention he already got from the terrible parents, and it was worse when Bobby wasn’t around and Jenny could barely cope with motherhood. Having children interrupted her lifestyle, and just when she thought there might be a chance of getting it back, she was pregnant again. Ciaran was, thankfully, the last, but with the last came a disregard for so much responsibility. By that point she thought her elder two knew enough to handle a lot of baby responsibilities while she watched television or slept off a hangover.
Growing up was tough. There was pressure from every side to find an escape. Teachers encountered Johnny first and he quickly established himself as a tearaway. He had no regard for the rules, and would cause chaos wherever he went. He spent six months in a juvenile facility when he was fourteen for stealing a car from outside a mini-mart. He fell in with the wrong people and started drugs at a very young age. No one offered him any guidance though. Bobby and Jenny seemed happy enough to wash their hands of one problem. Bobby said he would either learn, or he’d end up in the gutter like everyone else. He had no advice for his boys, no words of encouragement to help them better themselves. He simply just let them be and expected nothing from them.
Otis wasn’t like his brother. He got into fights when people pushed his buttons, and he could be a tearaway at times, but he wanted to change his life. He wanted to get the hell out of Detroit and have a better life than what he was growing up with. His brothers were constantly getting into trouble, but he wanted more. He didn’t want to have the aggressive relationship that raged through their home. He didn’t want to be like his father in and out of jails across the country. He wanted to be proud of who he became. It was hard to focus on school when he had a short temper, but he worked on it as best as he could for the longest time.
When Otis was seventeen, Johnny died. He overdosed on a cocktail of drugs he had become addicted to. His body was found in an abandoned store after one of his so called friends made an anonymous 911 call. There was barely any sympathy for the eldest son in the family, and Otis began to wonder how many others were out there just like his brother. Ciaran was close into following Johnny’s footsteps, but reeled himself back in from the edge before it could get out of hand. Otis knew he still recreationally dabbled, but he couldn’t order his brother around when none of them had any control over their lives.
Otis managed to get into the University of Arizona. It had been a long shot, but he needed to get out of Detroit and away from the hostile home he had. There he studied Psychology and Social Studies and knew from the start that he wanted to go and become a substance abuse counsellor. He had seen his brother’s life taken by drugs, and knew that Ciaran still felt the pull of them from time to time. Drugs and alcohol contributed to his mess of a life so far, and he wanted to help people move away from all that, to start again and find something better to focus on.
He graduated with friends and honours, and quickly found himself working in New York. At first it was with a youth scheme, but then after some experience he moved to an office where they were contracted to do sessions in prisons, in shelters, schools, pretty much anywhere government funded. Otis fell in love with it. He liked meeting people from different walks of life, hearing their stories, taking them from group sessions to one on one therapy, and eventually watching them rebuild their lives. He liked the success stories, and the failures hit him harder than he ever cared to admit. He wanted Ciaran to come out of Detroit and stay with him, but his brother seemed rooted into the blackened roots of their hometown. Otis wanted to keep him from the same fate as their brother, more than anything else, but right now he can only do so much from afar.
