No one actually knows this though, beyond the jock and her older sister.
PERSONALITY: Queenie comes across to many as quiet or shy. She considers herself to be the odd one out in the family, and in many social situations, but her family would describe Queenie as melancholic. She’s got a fair amount haunting her, but she’s determined to keep on going, and find a way through the thorny path. Queenie is very used to her own company, and often grows embarrassed or uncomfortable when the spotlight is on her for more than a few seconds. She pushes herself harder than she has to, and often works herself to the point of exhaustion before she’ll fall into her bed. She doesn’t like unfamiliar surroundings, and prefers sticking to the norm than going out there and trying something new and daring. Those things make her anxious. Queenie has learnt to hide her anger – she’s learnt it gets her nowhere. Instead she’ll become tearful whenever things become too much for her, but she does her best only to show her emotions in private since she doesn’t like being stared at. She’s not a fighter, and she won’t put up much of an effort to defend herself when someone stands in her way. Queenie is rather meek around others, though she wishes that was different. Her past experiences in love have left her a little jaded, not to mention that Queenie is rather insecure about her scars and what a potential romantic interest might think of them. She doesn’t want to stay that way forever, and wishes that the confidence she used to feel might someday be restored to herMOTHER: Katarina Elisha Abernethy, 48

HISTORY: The middle child of Katarina and Keifer, Queenie was the first one they were actually pleased to have. Queenie didn’t actually understand her older sister, Annie’s presence until she was around seven or eight years old. However, by that point life was already challenging for the young girl, not in the least because her younger sister Bellamy soaked up most of the attention around her. Queenie went to dance classes from the age of three, and that was the only place where she felt that she could relax and let go. She wasn’t an easy going child, and that was something that caused her trouble throughout school. Dancing was her freedom.
Queenie tried to keep to herself most of the time. She preferred to be on her own at school, hiding in the back corner of her classes and speaking only when she had no other choice. She was intelligent, but didn’t like flaunting it. She didn’t want to be the centre of attention like her younger sister, and she was much happier in her own company, or in a dance studio. Queenie didn’t make friends easily, but while her parents tried to encourage her to be like the pretty and popular kids in her class, she wanted nothing to do with it. She was overshadowed by Bellamy, and was more than happy to leave it that way. As they got older though, Bellamy thrived and it became fun for her to tease her older sister and skit her.
Queenie longed for the day when she could escape through her dance. She wanted to leave Vermont and go to New York, get lost on the stage as one of the mesmerising dancers in a touring show, be it a play or a concert. She just wanted to give her life to the music. When she was sixteen though, an electric junction box on the street exploded as she was walking by. A number of people were injured in the blast, but no one died. Queenie was one of the more severely injured, being right by the source of the explosion. Shrapnel and burns tore up her left side, and she was left in excruciating pain. She couldn’t walk unaided and her future of dance was completely out of the question. It took months and months of physiotherapy before she could spend the day walking without feeling like crying or needing to fall down and just collapse in a heap. Her hipbone had been chipped in the incident, and her leg was just so damaged it needed time to repair itself, and then time to rebuild its strength. There was compensation for the victims, but none of that could help Queenie find her dreams. She would never be a professional dancer now.
As a backup plan, she followed a newfound interest. Queenie had been interested in all the medication she had been put on during her recovery. She liked reading the slips of paper that came with them, the side effects and looking up how one interacted with another to help her. So, she applied to go to college as a Pharmacy Major. It was totally different from her original childhood plans, but maybe she needed that. Her older sister Annie had become a real rock for her since her recovery, so she was thrilled to move to New York where she taught. They hadn’t had a chance to be close growing up, and Queenie wanted that to change now.
She needed the break from Bellamy, and a new start was exactly what she needed. She got to spend more time with her older sister, establish her place in the city, and learn what she was doing. Now Bells is moving to be with them, at the insistence of their parents and Queenie is a little less fond of the idea of being reunited with her little sister.
