PERSONALITY: Puck is a confident young woman who knows what she wants and who will do anything to get it. She’s family-orientated, and enjoys the company of her cousins more than anyone else. Puck is a leader, and the type who will stand up and fight for others without hesitation if she feels it’s right. She enjoys being active, even if she’s busy and overwhelmed with her schedule; exercise is a release for her, be it tennis, yoga or just walking. Organised, Puck comes across to many as always polished and ready for anything that might be thrown at her, but in truth Puck just tries to keep everything simple enough to handle, and like the rest of her family, she’s quick-thinking. An independent woman, Puck rarely relies on anyone for help, even if she’s weighed down and could really use it. People often have to force their help on her before she’ll accept it. Still, she’s sociable, and the type who is always the first on the dance floor at a club, or who decides to throw a party because she hasn’t seen anyone in the longest of times. She’s an original thinker though, and will come up with different ideas to celebrate rather than everyone hitting up a bar or cluttering up her kitchen with beer bottles. Puck might come from wealth, but she’s the sharing kind. Her anger blooms in waves of silence, but with loud bangs and stomping around – in that sense, Puck is a little petulant, and sometimes it can be trivial things that set her off, too, like a minor change in plans at the last minute, or even buying the wrong brand. When it comes to love, Puck takes the road of uninterested. She’s batted off unwanted attention most of her life, and now it’s become a staple trait for her. She worries she might have chased off the right guy, but she does have moments when she’ll be playful around someone who has piqued her interest. Unfortunately, Puck hasn’t experienced anything that really got her heart in a flutter and made her think of love and cupid’s arrow yet.MOTHER: Nicola Kirsten Valburn, 58.

HISTORY: Nicola and Mortimer knew each other in their youth, but then Mortimer went away to boarding school in Europe and life went on. He never forgot about his childhood friend though, and once he was done with school and his four years of university at Cambridge, he sought her out. They married very quickly. Nicola was smart. She knew Mortimer was heir to his father’s fortune and would be taking over the business that had created that wealth. Plus, he was handsome, and Nicola had always found him to be friendly. Soon after the marriage, Nicola was pregnant and she gave birth to a baby girl; Puck Austen.
Puck was always a pretty girl, cute with her blonde hair and blue eyes. Her mother loved the idea of a beautiful daughter who might grow up to take on the world with her looks, but Puck grew bored with the attention fast. She didn't care for the immature teenage boys who tried to land her, or who made bets with their buddies about who could get further with her. Soon the popularity turned and she became known for her cold shoulder. She found solace in the computers rooms at the private school her father insisted on sending her to. During the lunch breaks they were quiet and only occupied by a college student who assisted at the school as part of his post graduate work. Puck had something of a crush on the cute nerdy Kian, but he taught her a lot. Mostly they were goofy things, like how to make images dance, and other little things that made her laugh. However, when her father’s company had some security issues as the world of technology and computers became cemented across the globe, Puck began to ask more questions. She was just curious. Her dad ranted and raved on the phone, grumbled through dinner, and his bad mood left her inclined to not ask him questions that he was unlikely to know the answers to; after all he had a handsomely paid IT team to fix all that. So she turned to Kian, who did his best to explain it to her and show her without actually breaking any laws, or hacking any systems. Puck was surprised with how interesting she found it, and Kian lent her some books about the world of web security and cyber cryptology from his own collection and the university library.
Kian helped her understand what she had questions about, and encouraged her to continue pursuing this interest. He told her it shouldn’t matter if the other kids didn’t know, or if they thought she was some stuck up bitch who turned down every guy who asked her out. She had a passion for it, and just because it didn’t match what people expected from her it shouldn’t put her off. Kian even helped her with her college applications when it came time to apply and Puck was nervous about going all in and committing to this future.
Puck’s parents didn’t really understand what she was doing when she left for NYU, but they had accepted by this point that their daughter was an independent creature who walked in a world they didn’t understand. She had looks to do so much, but was delving into a new, modern world that neither of them could wrap their heads around. She remained friends with Kian, calling him when she needed help, but at the same time their own lives kept them busy.
Puck made it through her college years with better friends than she had in high school. She found it a much better environment, and excelled, because she was passionate about what she was studying and she wanted to know more. After her graduation she chased her Masters and scored herself a job working as a Cryptologist for the government, checking the strength of security systems and working on codes and hacking, but all above board and legal. Sometimes she got to work through a secure network in her own apartment and other times she went into an agency building in the city whenever something big came in that required all hands on deck. She still has a lot to learn, and so much she does is classified work, but Puck wouldn’t change it for the world.
These days she’s more of a work-centric girl. However, she’s also the only one who knows about her cousin Booker’s baby. Puck makes the perfect confidant, but carrying the weight of this secret is a heavy one – there’s only so long a crying baby can be hidden for!
