PERSONALITY: At first glance, Syd appears like a bit of a free wheeling playboy but there is a lot to this guy that people don’t see. He's a big big family man with a huge heart who just wants to save the world and fly around it. And if he could do both at the same time, he would be a happy man. In the air is where he's always wanted to be and it wasn't until college that he found something else that interested him. He is a smart man with an abundance of confidence, especially in the air. Up in the sky, the man is untouchable. On the ground, he's a little less than perfect. He's a bit loud and a little wild but he always says that's the airman in him. He's not a romantic man usually but he will put in some extra effort when someone special has caught his eye. Otherwise he's a bit of a laidback guy who lets the world do it's thing. That's not to say he's not a stubborn man with a determination to get what he wants out of life, he's just a little more prepared to wait for it from time to time.MOTHER: Karen Abbott & 53.

HISTORY:
Sydney was born in a small town ten minutes from the border of New York and Vermont called Salem. His only wish growing up and learning about the history of his country was that he'd been born in the other Salem. But he got over it quickly enough. The occult intrigued him but it wasn't his main hobby. Like the rest of his family, flying was. Syd had known for as long as he could remember that he would fly for the rest of his life. Hell, he already had been since well before he'd been able to walk! He grew up on a private air field, surrounded by all sorts of airplanes. He could rebuild an engine long before he'd ever been allowed in the pilot's seat. He did all his proper training and was provided with his pilot's license at the age of sixteen. By eighteen he'd been taking up gliders for a year and a half. And all the while he'd been attending school because he had to keep his grades up if he wanted to continue to fly. He liked his little two person planes but preferred helicopters best. There was just something different about flying a helicopter.
He wasn't big on team sports though he was quite good at tennis and played for the school team during the four years he attended and the following years at university. There was plenty of space at the air field the Abbott family owned and operated that his father and uncle created a tennis court for him to practice on. It wasn't until University that Syd really discovered what he wanted to do with his life. His parents, his whole family expected him to go to college. And he did but he'd been thinking about some sort of general education degree, leisure studies, something like those. That first year, he picked courses out of a hat and hoped for the best. A few were more miss than hit but some were great big hits and eventually he found his calling. Sort of anyway. Four years of parties, coursework and weekend flying jobs saw Syd through to graduation where he had a new job all lined up; paramedic. He liked it well enough, there was a lot that he'd never thought he'd see and more that he wished he could take back but he wouldn't have changed a second of it. Rochester wasn't where he wanted to be though, for the rest of his life and quickly found himself looking for a different opportunity.
At twenty six, after what felt like a lifetime of looking, Syd found an add that seemed too perfect to be real. The NYFD was looking for a new helicopter pilot to take over for the last guy who couldn't handle the job anymore after a particularly horrific accident on one of the freeways. The serious accidents that would require his skills were pretty few and far between so he picked up shifts as a ground medic whenever he was needed to fill in but mostly since his shifts mostly revolved around needing to be near the helicopter, he spent a lot of time at the air field and offered to help out there anyway he could. There was to Syd an awkward chat with the boss; mostly because at twenty six, Syd had twelve years more experience than his boss had at that age. The man who ran the show had only started flying at thirty five and on a whim, which Syd wasn't a fan of. He was very much of the mindset that if you're going to do something, do it with everything you had or not at all. Of course, it had also been easier for Syd to get the experience when he lived on the family's air field property. Two years later and Syd has worked himself up to being quite an asset for not just the medics but all the law enforcement based out of the air field. Now that he's flying all the time again and helping out on the ground, he's starting to wonder what life would be like not walking through his door to an empty apartment.
