SECRETS: Griffin comes from a wealthy family of the elite kind. They have their teeth deep in American history, but these days mostly they have their name plastered on sporting ventures, including country clubs and leisure sites across America. Griffin doesn’t boast about that though, since he tends to live his life away from the rich and the famous.
PERSONALITY: Griffin is a modest man considering he comes from an obscene amount of money. He’s a down to earth guy who would rather fry bacon than entertain socialites and heiresses. He’s a free-spirit who is extremely grateful to be the youngest in his family, since it means he avoids the pressure and the burdens that his older brothers get to carry. He’s something of a dork who will say yes to just about anything foolish at least once, purely because it’s fun and amusing. Griffin is a friendly guy who could care less if someone is rich or penniless; all that turns him off is if someone is using him purely for his family name, or the cash he rarely flaunts having. It’s for that reason that he never mentions where he comes from or what he has access to. He’ll make up stories if he has to, but only a select few in his circle of friends know the truth about his life. Griffin loves to travel and see the world via roadtrips with his pals. He’s a social butterfly, full of life and energetic from the moment he wakes up until when he crashes again at night. He likes to be adventurous and try new things, but there are probably parts of his life he keeps from his parents to stop them from nagging him about the expectations he ought to be striving towards, even if he doesn’t have to step up to take over the family franchises one day – though he does have a share in them all as a son. Griffin is a very calm guy when it comes to his temper, and he’s probably more of a peacekeeper between his friends. He’s definitely not a fighter and when he’s in an angry mood he’s likely to give someone the silent treatment rather then get physical with them. He doesn’t forgive easily though; people have to prove they deserve that from him. Griffin considers himself to be a quirky romantic, since he takes traditional things and gives them a twist to make them unique. Unfortunately, he doesn’t date all that often to show it off. He’s not the smoothest with the ladies and if his friends don’t show him up then he has a tendency to put his foot in his mouth!MOTHER: Cheryl Kristin McBane, 57.

HISTORY: Generations of the McBane family came from money and country clubs, and that was the life Walter grew up in. He watched his grandfather and father build their sporting empire, collecting gyms and country clubs like some people collected stamps. It would all be his one day and he was groomed to take it on, eventually finding a wife in Cheryl. He was introduced to her at a gala event; one of many his family hosted. They would never admit it to the world because they had an image to uphold, but they settled for each other. Walter offered Cheryl a lifetime of stability and wealth, and she provided him with children and someone to wear on his arm when he walked into a room. They got along and they enjoyed the company of each other, but they were never head over heels in love with each other like in the movies or in fairy tales.
They had three sons. Griffin was the youngest. He watched his older brothers grow up before him, learning with their father about the thriving businesses they owned and would one day share between them all. As the youngest, he got away with squirming away before Declan or Leon. Walter wanted Griffin to understand, too, but he was worn out three children later, and kept saying that he would sit Griffin down when he was a little older and try again. In the end, Griffin was too set in his free-spirited ways to try again later. He would always listen to his father talk about the family name and how important it was, but Griff knew that it would be his brothers who dealt with that more than it ever would be him; and he was right. It wouldn’t take three of them to handle the McBane legacy.
So, while his brothers buckled down at school to prove themselves the best they could be academically, Griffin set about making himself something different. He was a little more rambunctious at times, and was the kid who hid under tables and refused to wear a bowtie when his family demanded it of him. He was a likeable child, and people called him a cheeky soldier when he was young enough to get away with such things. When he got older though, he lost that charm. Griffin was never badly behaved and he held his manners in check as much as his brothers when it was needed of him. However, if anyone was ever going to be late or entirely absent it would be Griff. And then when he did eventually show up his hair would be wild because he could never tame his curls and he would have an excuse so insane that his mother would ask him to just be quiet before he could even reach the end of it. He was a scamp alright, but his brother told him that they envied him freedom, though they encouraged him to pursue it while he had the chance. After all, anything could happen to flip his life on its head and push him into a position where he needed to pay attention to the finances or the business side of the family fortune.
Griffin found he enjoyed cooking. He was good at culinary arts in school and impressed at home too where he nagged the staff they employed in the family kitchen and at the country club into letting him lend a hand. It didn’t take him very long to decide that he wanted to go to culinary arts school once he graduated high school and his father agreed to pay the bill for him to go to one of the best in New York City if he got accepted. Griffin got in with ease. He was naturally talented at picking up new recipes, but he worked hard to perfect them and add a twist to make them his own. He liked being in the kitchen; it was as simple as that.
He moved to New York and sailed through his schooling. He did a year afterwards at one of the finest restaurants in the city, picking up some more tricks of the trade, but then out of the blue he quit. Griffin didn’t want to work under the pressure of a kitchen like that. He didn’t like seeing some of the employees breaking down because they were yelled at or blamed for a tiny flaw in a dish. He wanted food to be fun and enjoyable. Plus, being young he wanted to live his life and travel with his friends. A few of them tried to get away, but it was hard unless the weekend was there and they all had the time book in as a vacation from work. Griff ended up shocking everyone further when he took a position at Hal’s diner. He was the breakfast chef there, working from the sunrise to the lunchtime rush. He loved it though, and people were a kick to work alongside and serve up food for. He didn’t give a damn about switching gourmet dishes for greasy fried meals; he got to make them his own way and add a kick to them anyway. Plus, he got a life out of it, and it was one he loved.
He keeps a lot about where he came from to himself – no one needs to know he’s a wealthy kid who doesn’t need to work a day for anything. Griffin is just taking each day as it comes and riding out this adventure because he sees it that he’s luckier than his brothers; he’s free of their responsibilities.
