PERSONALITY: Taiden is a laidback guy who is finally following his heart and not listening to his step-father. He's passionate and artistic, wanting to wield his paintbrush against the world, though he's unsure if he wants to try to make it as an artist himself or eventually teach instead. He can sometimes come across as a nosy guy because he’s so interested in people and history and pretty much the world around him. A keep-busy kind of guy who loves to be edgy, he’s athletic because it was a way to keep out of the house when he was younger and to meet people. Taiden likes things to be chaotic and thrives best with spontaneity. He’s a messy bloke, who will never be trained to be tidy, it’s safe to say. Confident and bold there is very little that Taiden will shy away from in life; it’s too short to skip out on chances and put things off. It’s very rare for Taiden to lose his temper and if he does it’s usually because he’s feeling protective over someone else, or because someone has simply just kept pushing him despite him saying no or warning them time and time again. He’s no pushover and there’s only so much he’ll take before he’ll snap. He’s a wild flirt, and he’s no stranger to taking home women, but he also enjoys the feeling of a steady relationship. It’s just that while he’s single he likes to have some fun. He’s affectionate and playful with love, and while nothing serious has ever come his way so far, he’s still very much a passionate romanticMOTHER: Delilah Kirsten Matthews, 52.
FATHER: Elijah Samuel Daniels, 54.
SIBLINGS: Bryony Elisa Daniels, 26.
Heather-Annabelle Matthews, 18 (half-sibling)
Scott James Matthews, 15 (half-sibling)
OTHERS: James Ford Matthews, 60, step-father.
PETS: None officially – but his neighbour’s cat spends more time in his apartment that in its own home!
HOMETOWN: Bath, England & London, England (he calls it the joys of divorce).
HISTORY: There was a time when Delilah and Elijah loved each other, but Taiden can’t remember it himself. They were fighting in his earliest memory and they divorced when he was five. He stayed living with his mother in Bath, while his father relocated to London a year later. He spent the holidays with him, and the same went for his slightly older sister Bryony. Taiden was seven when Delilah met James Matthews; a man who owned his own business selling life insurance. They married three years later and James very much became the man of the house almost dictating when the children did or said anything at all. He pushed the kids to be academic, to ignore any whimsical fancies and he was harsher on his own two children; Heather and Scott. At least Bryony and Taiden had an escape when school let out and they got to go to London to be with Elijah.
Elijah was different. He wanted his children to follow their dreams. He paid for Bryony to have dance classes and pretty much dared Delilah to say no after he had paid the money to the school for them. The parents were never on good terms, and Elijah did not stay quiet about how much he disliked James. Elijah worked as a financial director for a charity, but he hated how James seemed to push onto the kids that money was the key to success and happiness. Elijah wanted his kids to follow their hearts and find their own way in life and not be forced into something just because it would provide financial security – he joked that was what he was there for.
Taiden hated being in Bath. Specifically, he hated being at home. So he took up sports. He played hockey at the local rink, and made sure to blow his money on concert tickets just so he had an excuse to get a train away and come home late if he didn’t crash at a buddy’s house. Teenage Taiden wasn’t a troublemaker, but he was stubborn. He didn’t want to listen to James, and he didn’t want to be a part of the bookish family James wanted to build. Delilah tried to talk to him to make him see that it was for his own good, but Taiden didn’t want it. He was good at art, but was constantly told it was a waste of time and that paint would never pay the bills.
In the end, after college – where he did study art, because fuck his step-father’s opinions – Taiden took a trust from his father and travelled for a while. He went and spent a lot of time in Spain and then hit up India, around that way, and Israel where his paternal grandparents were from, and where some relatives still were. He wanted to learn about that culture and spent some time really finding himself. Taiden felt like he had lost a lot because of the divorce and taking a couple of years (three in fact) to visit places that he felt he could connect to really helped him make some decisions about who he was, what he wanted to be, and where he needed to go with his life. When he was finished travelling he made the decision to move to New York for school. They had the best art programs and he – in no polite terms – expressed his desire to get the hell away from his step-father, who would only spend years belittling him for his choices.
Elijah and Bryony helped him move and settle in to life in the Big Apple. They found him a good apartment, stayed a while to play tourists and then left once he had a job at an amazing rock nightclub unlike anything he had seen before. He flew through his first year, and then took his second year in its stride. Taiden is now ready to make the most of his third year, a little bit unnerved by how quickly it’s all going by. Still, he loves the city and he’s definitely met some amazing people, made a ton of mistakes and memories, but Taiden wouldn’t change that for the world. He’s living his life just how he wants to.
