Sometimes Savannah didn't like going straight home from school. There was so much more work to be done at home after she had been in school for hours doing nothing but work. So, she went on walks after school to take a breather. She only knew a few people since coming to New York. Three, to be exact. Wren, Cash, and Colt. All three of them were similar to the tall blonde. Wren and Colt were both very in to animals. Colt was a veterinarian currently, and Wren was studying to be one just like Savannah. Cash was just a kind soul. He was quiet, but Savannah seemed to be able to fill the silence with her talking. And even though she only knew three people in such a big city, it was more than she had been friends with back in Texas. See, Savannah was pretty selective over who she allowed into her life. There were too many people out there who would do anything just to hurt you so that they could get ahead in life. Savannah had learned that the hard way when her own mother had drugged her and hired a doctor to conduct an abortion on her unconscious daughter.
Currently Savannah was walking in the Central Park Garden, thinking about what she wanted to do for dinner. There wasn't really much around here (vendor wise) that she really wanted. So, she decided on a pretzel, taking a bite of it before sitting down on a park bench. She pulled her phone out, shooting a text to her friend Colton, asking him if he wanted to join her on a walk. She wasn't quite sure if he was off work yet since sometimes vets could spend long hours at the office. But she thought it was worth a shot.

Colton was a very busy man and he was ecstatic about that fact. He was so pleased he'd done what he'd wanted for once in his life and said goodbye to the world of law. His father wasn't all that pleased about the fact but Colton really didn't give a damn. His sister could handle him and she would distract their old man from getting too pissed at Colton for following his heart. Hell, after the first year of business, it had been obvious that Colt had picked the best possible career for him. He was a natural at keeping animals calm whilst they were in his examination rooms. He had only him and two part time receptionists who doubled as his intake personnel as well. The girls did quite a bit for Colton. He didn't think he could run the shop without them. They made all the appointments, they handled all the calls and made sure he was aware when someone was there for their appointment. They made sure everything was filled out and he had the basics as to why they were there in the first place.
He'd been concerned about hiring staff on but he'd known he'd needed the help and that was the main reason he'd gone to the school to talk to professor's first. He'd figured it was the best thing. They got extra credit, paid and they were getting experience that they wouldn't otherwise get. Wren knew what she was doing already, that much had been obvious; but then, that was probably why his professor suggested her. And the other girl wasn't half bad but she definitely needed the extra credit if she wanted to make a decent grade. At least Colt could say he was helping them but getting them to help him. They were getting so much hands on experience that you just wouldn't learn in the classroom.
Normally, he would be sending whoever was covering the desk home by now, tonight it was Wren but she'd gotten a call for an emergency so they were sticking around until their latest patient arrived and they could assess the situation. Apparently there hadn't been much information passed along to the redhead when the call came in but that was usual when people were concerned about their furry family members. His phone buzzed just as he leaned against the counter for a few seconds of rest before the patient was due in. Shaking his head, he shot a text back, just saying that he couldn't meet anyone at the park, there was an emergency coming in. If the young vet student wanted to talk, she would have to come to him. And then, unfortunately, wait for him to get out of the room.
He liked having friends but for Colt, like any doctor, his patients came first. And he would not change that for anyone at all. If there was a call in the middle of the night, he would trek into the shop in his track pants, barely remembering to toss on a shirt along the way! Of course, he rarely got those calls but when they did, that was usually how he greeted his patients and their owners; track pants, t-shirt and hair in a messy, awkward bun because he hated falling asleep with the ridiculous long locks in his face. He loved his hair, it made him look like he was some sort of flakey surfer dude when in fact he was incredibly reliable. The differences amused him so much though that he just couldn't help himself.
