PERSONALITY: Nessa is quite competitive when it comes to most things in her life. She’s also determined and stubborn even at the worst of times, but she sees both of these traits as good things only even in scenarios where she ought to back down but never does. Playful, Nessa can sometimes to be serious when a situation requires it, but her heart is usually in the right place. She does have a hostile impulse when she’s in a bad mood and that can sometimes lead her to do something that is uncalled for or just shouldn’t be done. She’s quite family-orientated even though she has annoyed and embarrassed her brothers for longer than she can remember. Nessa likes to keep herself busy and doesn’t like the idea of lazing around day in and day out. A social kind of girl, she’s the type to flirt with the cute barista and laugh and joke with the salesgirl in the shoe shop. She knows that she doesn’t want to live her life with regrets and so tries to do as much as she can whenever she can. She’d shout YOLO if she didn’t actually see red whenever she heard the darn phrase. She’s confident, sometimes a little overly so, but she’s also kind. If she makes a plan she likes to see it through to the very end. Nessa is also sporty, which is what makes her stand out from the rest of her family who have interests elsewhere; when she would be up and ready for a 6am run, her brothers would rather be finishing a gaming all-nighter or coming in from a party. She’s young and doesn’t want to be tied down anytime soon, but Nessa does hope for a happy ending. HISTORY: Harvey and Hillary had nothing all that special about their lives. They had their routines and habits that saw them both catch the same bus most days. It started off as polite conversations and then when Valentine’s Day rolled around, Harvey turned up for the bus that morning with flowers and the promise of a brilliant date if she agreed to have dinner with him. Hillary said yes and the rest was pretty much history! A small, intimate wedding two years later and just under a year after that, Vanessa Maxine Addams came into the world!
She was healthy, happy and spoilt rotten by her parents until the arrival of her first baby brother. Then she had to share things with Oliver and while she didn’t mind, he was “still a baby” and “ruined everything” when he got his hands on some of her favourite toys or other bits. Then Simon came along and Hillary and Harvey called their family complete. The three siblings were close, raised to make up after a fight, but once the backs of their parents were turned then it was every kid for himself and no rules existed. They were pranksters, all three of them, but Nessa was by far the worst and yet she somehow managed to get away with a lot of things. It paved the way for the rest of their lives when she would take every chance she was handed to play the embarrassing older sister and pull out the old photo albums or just tell stories to prospective girlfriends about some of the things Oliver and Simon had done throughout the years. She loved her brothers, but it was far too easy to tease them, too.
Despite the closeness of the Addams family, Nessa did have a life without her relatives surrounding her. At school she was quite the social butterfly with decent grades. It was also at school where she found her enjoyment of sports. She wasn’t as athletic as some of the kids in her class, but she did enjoy it and played soccer for the entire length of time that it was possible. It gave her a break from homework and family and kept her motivated on the days when she really just couldn’t be bothered. From a young age Vanessa enjoyed being busy and it was hard for anyone to get her to take a break back then; luckily that changed as the years went by and she realised that a night in of extra studying might take priority over a trip to see the latest Blockbuster movie, and to get a decent study night in required rest and calm.
Throughout her life she remained close with her brothers and parents and even the turbulent teenage years saw those ties remaining strong even with the mood swings and the occasional screaming matches about being in bedrooms or ruining dates and reputations in the school hallways. Nessa was their big sister and she would often try to help them fix their mistakes and defend them when she had to. Any girls she suspected of hurting or toying with her brothers were usually confronted by their lockers and she made it quite clear that she wasn’t kidding around. Simon and Oliver didn’t always appreciate it, but Nessa struggled to let it go sometimes. She felt she had a duty as their big sister to protect them the same way she had done when they were kids and the boys down the street would try to take their ball away. The situations were very different, but Nessa still had that instinct and that desire to protect them and the other people in her life who she cared for.
It was career day that had her consider law as an option for her future. The idea was planted and grew, tangling around her thoughts and dreams until it was her aim for her career. Her parents reminded her how hard a job it would be, but that sort of thing was what motivated Vanessa most of all. Looking at colleges, she found her dream course in New York which was little further from home than her parents would have liked, but they had to come to terms with Nessa’s choice. She was the most stubborn of all the Addams’ and there would be no changing her mind once she was set on something. So, with a sports scholarship helping make the financial pressure a little lighter, Nessa was off to New York with a law book and a soccer ball.
The first three years flew by and Nessa quickly found her place in the busy city. Balancing work, school and soccer practice came surprising easy for her and she fell in love with the city that never sleeps. She partied, made the most of her youth and did a few things she prays never gets back to her parents, but Nessa loved her life there. Now, she’s in her senior year and she’s the captain of the girls’ soccer team. Nessa really couldn’t ask for much more at this point in her life, but she’s sure New York will throw something at her; it always does!!
