FEARS: clowns, anything happening to his sister, kids of his own
SECRETS: The reason Vaughn doesn't mind Ten's friend so much is actually because he likes her; a lot. When she first started coming around the flat, he was rather annoyed, especially because she wasn't phased by his sarcastic comments or his ass attitude but she grew on him and he realised, too late that he was quite fond of her but he didn't want to ruin his sister's closest friendship he'd ever seen her have. So he settles for their weekly “date” nights.
PERSONALITY: A Law student who hates law, Vaughn does it for his grandparents and nothing else. He knows of the two of them, he and Ten, one of them needed to keep the peace and it fell on his shoulders. But he wasn't without his rebellious side. He and Ten had been getting into trouble together since they were still in nappies. They constantly covered for each other, Vaughn covering more often than not. But that was because things hadn't held his interest quite as strongly as it had gripped Ten. He liked adventurous activities well enough but Ten had always been the one with the plans and the parties so he covered. Unfortunately for him mostly, he had an impressive IQ, scores higher than his classmates and most adults, usually making him the smartest guy in the room, led to him being quite disinterested in most things rather quickly; which is why he thinks his romantic relationships never last more than a couple months. Bored easily it takes something he's genuinely interested in to actually hold his attention for longer than a minute or two and that doesn't happen often. As it is, because of his attitude towards most things, Vaughn can come across as a bit of an ass and really, he kind of likes it that way. He seems more aloof than anything else, which he likes. Compared to his darling twin sister, he's far more tame than she is but he's no less competitive either. The trouble they used to get into, and still did, from time to time. The similarities between them are only rivalled by their differences. While they're both sarcastic and a tad on the mouthy side, he's far more sweeter than his counterpart; and he can hold that infamous Cooper temper a hell of a lot better than she could as well. He's caring and loyal but only to a few close friends and no one else. Tennessee as far as Vaughn is concerned is his only family, with the exception of her best friend as well. They're the only two people on the planet that Vaughn is even remotely protective over and he doesn't plan on that changing any time soon.MOTHER: Annabelle Rose Cooper, 40

HOMETOWN: Alderley Edge, Cheshire, England .
HISTORY: The best word to describe Annabelle Cooper was flaky. And she was, hoping to find herself a musician to travel the world with. She left home young, heart set on seeing the world when she met an older man, an aspiring musician passing through the state when they shared a very short lived fling. He moved on and so did she. She found herself in New Mexico when she discovered she was pregnant. Children had never been part of her plans, in fact she was mostly against them entirely. But here she was, pregnant with twins with her own parents making sure she didn’t just walk away from them. The arguments over what she wanted to name the twins were long an bothersome but Annabelle wouldn’t be swayed. She named him after the town where she’d found out about the pregnancy, Vaughn and she named his twenty minutes old twin sister after the place she’d met their father; Tennessee. They’d been born in Alderly Edge, in the family home surrounded by their family. Afterwards Annabelle wasn’t interested in her children, she hadn’t wanted them after all so she would routinely vanish for days on end, showing up in cities and towns all around drinking with friends or with men she’d met along the way. She’d never forgotten her dreams to travel.
The twins were lucky though, because they had their grandparents to take care of them. Jessica and Harry felt like they’d turned a wrong corner somewhere in Annabelle’s childhood to have raised such a selfish and irresponsible daughter. She didn’t have a maternal bone in her entire body and that was the shame because her parents had hoped she would realise she was in fact a mother and take responsibility of that fact and of her two children. But it never happened and Jessica and Harry took custody of the twins. They hoped that this time around, they’d get something right with them.
Life was alright for the twins. They were curious of course, being raised by their grandparents and not their actual parents so questions were asked, hundreds and hundreds of questions, it felt like sometimes but few were really answered. Nonexistent father and an eccentric mother who showed up irregularly just to take her children away for a day, often times looking nothing like the woman they’d seen the last time she’d shown up unannounced. Vaughn was alright with it all. He didn’t quite care either way. It had been pretty obvious from a young age that he was far more intelligent than he should have been at his age but he habitually toned it down around the adults because he didn’t want to leave his sister. They were thick as thieves. He went to riding lessons because Ten enjoyed it and went hiking through the country because he enjoyed it as well. Those walks were some of his favourites, just him, Ten and their grandfather for a couple hours in the area surrounding their home. The pair would tease and torment each other, daring each other to do silly things that had their grandmother shaking her head.
Oddly enough, Vaughn got in trouble far less than his older twin. And it had always confused him. Was it because she was the older twin, was it because for the most part she was in fact instigating ninety percent of the dares or was it simply because she saw too much of her own daughter in her granddaughter and she wanted to nip those “bad habits” in the bud. Vaughn was on Ten’s side always. He didn’t believe she deserved the scolding from their grandmother or the teasing remarks from the children at school. He’d been lucky in a way, his name wasn’t so completely unheard of that he mostly went unnoticed unless he was there when Ten got teased. Eventually the grandparents sent them off to boarding school in the hopes that the mistakes they made their first time round would be corrected. But they obviously didn’t know their grandchildren.
Both had always been curious but Tennessee was the one that usually went headfirst into any sort of situation and called Vaughn when she’d gotten herself in a bit of a state, Vaughn tended to look at the situation first. However, neither of them could ever turn down a dare or a challenge, all those years of daring each other and challenging the other to do stupid and ridiculous things and they found themselves in a bit of hot water more often than not because of it. Vaughn was quite often Ten’s cover when she slipped out and he was very good at the role he’d taken on. Of the pair, he had somehow managed to become the “good” twin. Once again, he didn’t know if it was because he was the younger of the two or if he really did just look the more innocent of the pair but the adults usually believed him when he told them some completely made up story. While Ten found Lacrosse, Vaughn found himself in the library and before they’d left the school behind, he’d read through nearly all the books in the room, save for about a shelf of books that genuinely didn’t interest him. Though like Ten, he found himself sneaking out of the dorms to party and play pranks, developing a bit of a reputation about school; not that it seemed to phase him at all.
In fact, he didn’t seem to notice at all if things were said about him. That wasn’t the case of course. He heard it all, even knew who was saying it even but Vaughn really couldn’t be bothered by any of it. He just didn’t give a single damn what they thought. For the most part, Vaughn was left alone when Annabelle decided she wanted to pretend to be a mother again. He was a boy, a son and therefore less interesting for her. Ten wasn’t a girly girl and Annabelle wanted her to be which usually left Ten pissed and Vaughn smirking in the background, counting down the minutes before Ten exploded. For the most part, Vaughn went unnoticed by most of the adults, which was fine by him since it meant he could get away with a hell of a lot more. Though there had been that single time he’d nearly gotten expelled for covering for Ten. They’d managed to smooth it over and have it be forgotten but Vaughn didn’t stop doing what he’d done before; now he was just better at hiding it all.
Things settled after that incident and life resumed for them about as eventfully as before. Vaughn had been told numerous times how his grandparents expected so much from him, from them both. And it was the pressure that finally got to Vaughn. The grandparents expected certain things from them and having a practical major in university was one of them. He didn’t want something dull and boring. Everything bored him to tears within ten minutes of it and he didn’t want to spend the next few years so bored his eyes crossed! He agreed to go to university and was easily talked into moving to New York with Ten. He didn’t want to be stuck back in England, easily reached by both grandparents and flaky mother. They might have been more disappointed in Ten for some reason or another but they didn’t forget about him either. And any chance to get away from that he would grab onto with both hands.
During the holidays of their freshman year, the twins returned home though it was uneventful in Vaughn’s eyes. He rode his horse, he hiked and he sat around the house reading. He only visited one friend but that was it and they were on their way back to New York once again. The rest of the year went by much the same way it had before though he did notice a change in Ten. He couldn’t figure out what was wrong and though he asked, she always said nothing. Eventually he dropped it but he kept an eye on her all the same. And then she went and took a gap year to travel. Vaughn would have offered to go along with her but something held him back. He knew she needed to do this part alone and so he wished her luck and demanded postcards and baubles from each stop she made. He received both several times throughout her year away and become a lot closer to her closest friend in the city. Realising too late that he in fact fancied the pants off her friend, Vaughn had to backtrack and take some time to realise that he really wasn’t bored by the pretty photographer. He didn’t want to ruin the friendship between the girls so he chose to keep his feelings to himself and instead acted like an older brother of sorts though he did look forward to their weekly movie nights, making sure there were plenty of her favourite snacks handy when she showed up and agreeing to play sober friend when she needed one for a night out. Eventually Ten returned to the apartment they shared and things seemed to go back to a state of normal though he did tease her about being a grade ahead of her.
