STATUS: Single.
GROUP: Citizen.
GRADE: N/A.
MAJOR: N/A.
JOB OCCUPATION: Pianist and Starbucks supervisor.HAIR: Dark brown, almost black, and thick. He keeps it relatively short and neat, but it’s always long enough to run his fingers through and look god damn awful when he rolls out of bed in the morning.
EYES: Green.
SCARS/BIRTHMARKS: He has a few minor ones from accidents over the years, but there’s nothing of note.
TATTOOS: None.
PIERCINGS: None.
PLAY-BY: Harry Lloyd!LIKES: Playing piano, miniature golf, experimenting with coffee flavours, fresh orange, small bars, taking silly photos, listening to music at the gym, a playlist for every occasion, Doctor Who, Back to the Future, winter, podcasts, scientific debates, Family Guy, burgers, playing pranks, haunted house amusements, theme parks, old arcade games, Ready Player One, hand cream.
DISLIKES: Cancelled gigs, public restrooms, ignorant rants, butterflies, changing lightbulbs, rain, rats, girls who dress in very little, not reading a book a week, being anti-social, friends falling out, internet drama, procrastinating when he ought to be doing something productive, trying to budget efficiently, dental appointments, waiting in for parcel deliveries.
FEARS: Butterflies, damaging his hands so he can’t play, isolation.
SECRETS: His nickname on the podcast is Doctor not because of the show Doctor Who, but because someone once wrote his initials as MD and he got far too excited with the little joke. He tends to just accept the Doctor Who connection though.
PERSONALITY: Marlowe is a very friendly guy; the type who will strike up a conversation with a total stranger. He’s a closet geek who collects old arcade games, and masters them until he’s got a high score on the boards, and can quote sci-fi cult classics and Doctor Who, as well as having his own sci-fi podcast with some buddies who share his passion. Gifted and musical it’s uncommon for Marlowe to be seen without headphones and a playlist when he’s not sitting at the piano himself, working on his next piece or just playing something that makes him happy. He is actually generally a happy guy. Marlowe can be a bit of a goof at times but he lives his life with the intention of enjoying it. He tries his best to avoid confrontation of any kind, even if that means deliberately avoiding someone for a while until a matter can calm down or blow over. He’s a little bit of an old fashioned romantic, but he tends to fumble around girls he does like, which isn’t at all helped when his friends make matters worse for him there. He’s a talker, but usually about everything but himself because he’s aware that a few facts of his life tend to make him sound like an ass , even though he’s not at all like that. He’s a sweet guy once he’s moved on from the bumbling or goofing around with his friends where they try to outdo each other.MOTHER: Anita Jean De Fleur, 52.

HISTORY: Mitchell grew up half in America, half in France, and when he was in America he was besotted by Anita, a girl who lived on the street as his grandparents there. In time he asked her out and they fought against the beliefs of friends who thought they would drift apart when Mitchell was in France. They married young and spent a number of years settling down in Mystic and finding lives for themselves. Anita became a teacher while Mitchell opened up a store there that sold furniture – both new and refurbished second hand pieces. They started their family a little later than their friends, but had a son who they named Marlowe. They planned to have more but it never worked out for them, and thus Marlowe was an only child.
Because of this, he kind of got into everything. His parents were busy with work, so he had quite a bit of time to sit in front of the television and watch movies. He went to his dad’s store after school most days, but spent time in the back office there just playing with things a child probably shouldn’t have been picking up to begin with. When Mitchell got an old piano in to sell when Marlowe was six, the little boy was fascinated. He would sit and play with it despite not knowing how to play the piano and it was after a week of watching him arrive from school and make a beeline for the piano that Mitchell took the price tag off it and told Anita that they ought to get their son lessons. And so, Marlowe’s love of the piano was born. And since his parents constantly reminded him that lessons were costly and that he needed to practice, he was rarely away from the piano until someone chased him away to go and play outside with his friends.
His life was fairly uneventful. Playing the piano was his main focus, but then he was goofing off with friends the rest of the time. They were considered the dorks of their high school, but Marlowe didn’t exactly care. He enjoyed his life and spent Saturday mornings helping his dad out at the store for some money that helped him go out with friends to the movies, or just save up for something he wanted but was a little out of his weekly budget range. It was pretty standard teenage stuff, and he just kind of got on with his life in the small town. People liked him, thought he had good manners, but he was also prone to laughing too loudly, or goofing around at the worst times – but it was all harmless stuff.
For college, Marlowe had always known that he wanted to try to get into Julliard. He worked hard and constantly followed online tips and advice from people who had made it there. He wanted to make his passion his future, but he wanted to go where the best people went. His music teacher thought it possible, but he needed to pick up other grades, study hard for the application, and generally not take it as a joke. Marlowe did not. He worked his ass off and when he finally received his acceptance letter he wasn’t ashamed to admit that he cried with his parents. Anita was a little worried about her son leaving the small town he had known his whole life to attend college in New York, but he reassured her constantly.
After the move, and with the hectic schedule of his music program, he was constantly exhausted, but happy. He called home to keep his mother sane and tried to keep Saturday for himself to catch up with friends or watch movies. He got a job at Starbucks when he found his own tiny place and continued to work hard through school. After graduation, he started looking for jobs or gigs. He landed a few lounge spots that he still works at whenever they have a function on, or just call him in – usually once or twice a month – and there have been a few concert places where he’s had a part, but everything comes and goes for him generally. So, he stuck at Starbucks, becoming a supervisor so he could keep up the rent for the apartment he moved into at 25. Since then it’s sort of been the same. Thursday nights he records the sci-fi podcast with his buddies, and he spends a lot of time in the local bar where they hang out when they’re free to. It has an old piano which he often sits down at for sing-a-longs when the mood is right and merry.
