PERSONALITY: Theo is a quiet guy. He always has been. He’s friendly but he’s not loud or one of those people who needs to get in your face about something. He loves to act, which is one of the reasons he’s returned to college, to finish his degree. When he’s on the stage it’s like he’s a completely different person, full of life and passion, taking whatever comes his way. He’s caring and whether it’s a relative, friend or lover who needs him, he’ll always be there, willing to do anything for them. He’s a total pacifist and unless he’s in character, he won’t get angry with anyone. He bottles it all up and channels it into his performances. He’s an intellect and adores reading up about history and literature and can never be too bored of facts and trivia. He’s a little reserved though and it can take a bit of encouragement from friends to get him to venture out for an evening. He’s also reluctant these days and sometimes he’ll stay silent instead of talking. It’s hard for him to communicate sometimes, especially when Jenny’s on his mind. Theo’s surprising unconfident when he’s away from the stage. A lot of the time he’s nervous, stammering when the pressure gets too much for him. People encourage him to date again, but he’s too worried about it. He’s a thinker and can spend hours with just his thoughts, pondering over subjects and worrying too much about other things. He’s an insomniac and suffered with it for almost a year now, he normally looks tired or seems out of it when it’s bad.

HISTORY: Theo was born and raised in Alloa in Scotland. Jenny was born six months after him, her parents residing in the house opposite Theo. As infants, their mothers organised play dates and often took it in turn to babysit each other’s children when they were still very young.
Theo’s passion for acting came when he was cast as the Angel Gabriel in the school nativity when he was five. He loved being on the stage and that was the one thing that never changed, regardless of what happened in life. Whatever school production came up, you could always find his name on the cast list.
As they grew older, Theo and Jenny remained the best of pals. They went to school together and sat next to each other in every class; pretty much inseparable. They simply got on really well and used to laugh it off whenever anyone teased them with romantic stories and assumptions. They’d never felt that way for each other at all.
When Theo was fourteen, his family went travelling around Europe for the summer, meaning he didn’t see Jenny for a whole three months. He returned just before school started up and was shocked. Jenny had grown up over the summer and the scrawny, pale, brace-face girl he had left was suddenly, taller and prettier. He’d gone through the same transformation, only he hadn’t noticed it himself, but Jenny did. There was an attraction the moment they were reunited. Theo had broadened out and looked more like a man than a little boy, plus, he had shot up in height himself.
They spent a few months beating around the bush a lot, spending more time together, clumsily flirting when they thought they could get away with it and staying up later to talk to each other. It was at the school Christmas dance, tricked into walking under mistletoe, that the pair of them shared their first kiss and by the end of the night, it was official; they were in a relationship.
School finished two years later and the pair of them were very much in love. They were best friends too, and it was almost perfect. They put college off for some time, spending two years travelling around the world. Their final stop was in Norway, Finnmark to be specific. They were lucky enough to catch the northern lights on what could only be described as the most beautiful night in history. As Jenny looked up at the aurora above her, Theo bent down, on one knee, and pulled a silver engagement ring from his pocket. He proposed when she finally looked down.
Back in Scotland, they told their families the good news and Theo put college off again in order to work to earn money to afford Jenny’s dream wedding. Jenny, on the other hand, had a job offer that would pay for her university education, but it was in New York. Theo didn’t need asking at all. Within a few months, they had their own apartment in New York and whilst Jenny settled into her career, Theo took a job at the local cinema.
Jenny still wanted to be married in Scotland, in the church they used to go to, and Theo didn’t want her to be disappointed.
Another year passed, and Theo was twenty two when he took Jenny home to marry her. It’s his favourite memory and the best day of his life when he made her his wife.
Back in NY, Theo took a promotion in the cinema, making him supervisor and also started university, finally, just after his twenty third birthday.
It was a little odd being ‘old’ in comparison to the freshman there, but he didn’t mind. Finally, he was performing again, back on the stage and on the path to making his dreams come true. It was almost torture walking down Broadway most days, knowing how far away he was from being on one of those stages.
Theo was twenty four, late home from work, when Jenny greeted him with tears in her eyes, unable to control herself as she announced her pregnancy to him. Theo was overjoyed. They hadn’t been trying for a baby, but they both longed for one and had adopted a ‘whatever happens, happens’ attitude in the bedroom. He was a doting father long before Jenny was even showing, and the spare room was decorated in baby accessories before anyone could blink.
The nine months flew by and it was a dark night, just before dinner, when Jenny cried out for him, clutching her swollen stomach and the counter top.
Isabella Laura Sterling was born just after midnight that night and as Theo held her in her arms, he smiled down at his gorgeous wife, who was exhausted. ”Aye, she’s got your ginger hair, for sure.”
Then, things took a turn for the worst and Theo’s ideal life came crashing down. Jenny collapsed and the doctor’s raced to stabilise her.
For the next two days, nurses had to show Theo the ropes for looking after his daughter whilst his wife lay in a critical condition in the bed. The evening of the second night, she opened her eyes, tears glistening and turned to Theo, making him promise to never forget her but to find someone else. “You’re going to need someone to do the cooking.” He told her not to talk like that, but she just smiled and looked up at him again. “You’ll be on Broadway one day The. Issy needs someone to look up to and dreams of her own. You can’t give up on yours.” Theo was too upset to speak again after that. He was asleep on the chair next to her bed, when around 4am, she flat-lined and the doctors pronounced her dead. She’d suffered severe internal bleeding during the birth and her body couldn’t cope, even with the help the doctors gave her.
Theo was ready to drop out of college and focus fully on Issy, but Jenny’s voice echoed in his mind too much and he had to carry on, for her memory. His younger sister came and stayed with him after Jenny was buried in their hometown of Alloa. She helped look after Isabella whilst Theo was grieving and trying to sort his life out. Theo shortened his shifts in work and his sister stayed to looked after Issy whilst Theo returned to university, only one year left before he’d be graduating and able to pursue his own dreams.
He’s twenty six now, and it’s been just a little over a year since Jenny died. It still hits him hard and he’s been diagnosed with insomnia. His life is centred around his daughter and despite his sister encouraging him to date again, he’s finding it hard. His whole life was Jenny and who could ever replace her?
