"What can I get for you today?"
Brogan greeted the first customer in line. Her accent was thick and made her words sound jumbled. It also made the sweet girl sound harsh and mean. The Irish accent was kind of like a German one in some respects. They just both sounded harsh and off putting, though Brogan found that there were more people who preferred Irish accents to German ones, especially over here in the States. In New York, though, people didn't seem phased by her accent. They just kept going with their busy days, telling her their order and tossing their card at her. Brogan tried to be kind to her customers, and she was most of the time. But sometimes they were just so rude. Brogan knew that if she yelled at someone for being rude, they would probably demand that she be fired. Brogan couldn't afford to lose her job, so she kept her mouth shut.
She marked the cup with the correct letters of the drink being ordered, and then she handed it to the person making the drinks, and she went on like that for a few hours. Once things slowed down, which also happened to be when she was ready to leave, she sighed heavily, thankful that she was able to get out this place. As soon as the clock struck four, she clocked out and made her way to the bathroom to change into her street clothes. She hated wearing that apron; it made her feel as if she were stiff and couldn't move. She made her way back to the counter, ordering a large chai latte, sipping on it when it was handed to her. She made her way to a small table in the corner of the store, wanting to get some homework done before she made her way home.
Brogan's classes were harder than they had ever been. She loved a challenge, so having a hard class or two wasn't going to phase her. She just needed to keep her eye on the prize: the job she was going to get once she graduated. She couldn't wait to help make the world a healthier and better place to live by finding ways to keep species alive or by doing research to see what people could do to cut down their carbon footprints and stuff like that. She set her backpack down on the floor, pulling out her laptop, opening a document her teacher wanted her to read. She did just that while sipping on her drink.
