SHILOH MINERVA ZALES
FULL NAME: Shiloh Minerva Zales.
NICKNAMES: Shi,
AGE: eighteen.
SEXUALITY: straight.
STATUS: single
GROUP: student
GRADE: freshman
MAJOR: International Relations
JOB OCCUPATION: Hard Rock Café waitress.
HAIR: An auburn shade, past her shoulders and thick. She usually wears it with curls or a natural wave since anything else takes far too llong for her to deal with in the morning.
EYES: brown.
SCARS/BIRTHMARKS: A few from casual accidents and mishaps, but a more prominent one from a reef diving accident is on her left thigh.
TATTOOS: Shi has a very delicate looking lace ribbon bow above her right ankle and a series of little stars on her right foot. She adds a new star every time she travels to a different country.
PIERCINGS: Her ears twice and then her left helix and conch!
PLAY-BY: Olivia Cooke!
LIKES: red velvet cupcakes, snorkelling, public speaking, debate team, renaissance faires, spiders, hockey games, backpacking, collecting postcards, motor racing, late night movie marathons, pineapple, carrot sticks, marmite, toffee sundaes, learning new languages, daredevil stunts, trying new things, breakfast smoothies, political satire, theatre classes, anything Anthony Head does, beekeeping.
DISLIKES: under baked cakes, forgetting her nasal spray, warm lemonade, dry wines, losing an argument, forgetting her camera on a trip out, feeling trapped, stiff jeans, backseat drivers, being unproductive, burnt popcorn, bad jokes, cheesy guys, pins and needles in her feet, waking up in a bad mood, people picking on her favourite snacks, puppets, blueberries, missing good conventions.
FEARS: puppets, being trapped in one place forever, losing her voice.
SECRETS: Shiloh was actually born in prison. Her biological mother was a junkie who was incarcerated from evidence found during a bust. She spent the first six months of her life there, in the mother-baby unit until her dad finally was allowed to have full-custody of her. Obviously it’s not the most pleasant story to tell and since it got out once and she hated the consequences, she keeps a tight lid on it now.
PERSONALITY: Shiloh enjoys pushing boundaries. She’s a girl who can easily slip to the side of annoyance. She’s talkative, but usually always has a point to make rather than rambling on about inane things. She likes changes, rises to a challenge and loves having someone around her to keep her on her toes. Liking to keep busy as a bee, Shiloh is usually on several committees or groups as well as living the rest of her life, too. She’s dedicated and a take charge character who has no time for indecisiveness. Ambitious, but a dreamer, Shiloh wants to go everywhere and achieve everything. She's friendly and often keen for any social event or gathering. Shiloh would probably describe herself as a “yes” kind of person, who will try anything at least once, especially adrenaline sports or daredevil stunts. She’s confident and energetic and has a subtle sense of humour that’s more satirical than anything else. Fun loving, Shiloh had quite the creative side that she channels into amateur dramatics and theatre classes as a hobby rather than anything else. She can be highly persuasive with a charismatic streak that comes in useful for all kinds of situations. Despite having quite the non-stop personality, she can be guarded about certain topics or tales from her past. It’s usually quite obvious for others to see, too, since Shi isn’t the greatest when it comes to telling lies and tries to limit herself to just vague answers when people ask too personal questions. Shiloh only fights with her words, never her fists, but she did take a self-defence class just in case she ever found herself in a bad situation she couldn’t argue her way out of. Passionate, it’s pretty easy for Shi to get riled up about something, whether it’s angrily or excitedly. Usually, she can be kind of oblivious to someone liking her, but Shiloh does have a minx inside of her that likes to come out and play from time to time. Usually, it’s harmless fun for a free drink or two, but there’s nothing to say it has to end there. She just needs that spark to keep things alive!

PETS: Ralphie, a cairn terrier. She also has a bee hive on the roof of her building.
HOMETOWN: She was born in Fleury-Mérogis, France, but she prefers to call her home Whangarei, New Zealand.
HISTORY: Shiloh’s parents only had a shot lived relationship. Jacques ended things after little more than two months once he found out that Aimee and her family were heavily involved with the drugs trade. He came from a good family and didn’t want any kind of trouble. The only problem was that at the time of the break up no one knew or even suspected that Aimee was already pregnant. When she did find out, she opted to not tell Jacques, but instead rely on her corrupt family for support. A raid saw Aimee and her three brothers sentenced to five years each in prison and while she tried to play the innocent single mother-to-be during the trial, no one bought the act. Sent to Fleury-Mérogis prison, Aimee gave birth on the 31st December to a small, but loud baby girl.
Jacques only became aware of Aimee’s pregnancy during the news reports of the case and the trial. He knew that there was a highly strong chance of him being the father and he didn’t want to leave his child with the Debout family. Aimee insisted to lawyers that Shiloh wasn’t Jacques, but he pushed the matter until a paternity test was granted. With more court proceedings that followed, Shiloh spent the first six months of her life in the mother and baby unit of Fleury-Mérogis prison until a judge finally ruled in Jacques’ favour and granted him custody of the oblivious infant.
Jacques took Shiloh to Paris where his parents lived and there she was raised for a number of years. Jacques met a lovely woman called Trisha who was in Paris as part of a university exchange programme. The pair fell in love and while Jacques was worried about how Trisha might take to him having a one year old at home, he was more than pleasantly surprised to see how good she was with the little Shiloh, who could be mischievous and temperamental around strangers or just people who weren’t her dad and grandparents!
Shiloh was just about to turn five when Aimee was released from prison and put forward the fight to win her daughter back. Shi had no real memories of the woman and Jacques tried to keep Shiloh away from the ugliness of lawyers and judges. During the custody battle, Jacques and Trisha were married and raising their son, Misha, as well as Shiloh. After Aimee failed a screening and more evidence flagged up against her, Jacques retained full custody of his daughter and a year later, after harassment and another round of the court and visa applications, he obtained the right to move to New Zealand with his family. Trisha was originally from Whangarei and missed it.
The move took a bit of adjustment and Shi had to perfect the rarely used English. She had learnt a lot of the basics from Trisha, but now she needed it more and more. It wasn’t long after the move that Trisha announced her second pregnancy, later giving birth to another son, Levi. With Duke rounding off the family a few years after that, Shiloh became quite the daddy’s little girl and Jacques treated her like a princess. Shiloh wasn’t spoilt in a bratty way, but Jacques did always feel like he had to make it up to her more than his sons, because of her start in life and the tough time he had keeping a hold of her. Shiloh was a happy, albeit bossy to her brothers, girl. She loved an adventure and was often the child to give her dad and step-mother a cause for panic when she would tumble out of a tree or climb up something she probably ought not to climb up. Obviously, with her brothers being bundles of energy, too, Shi had to keep up with them and overall, the Zales were a pretty active bunch, taking hiking and camping trips when they could and spending their weekends on the beach letting the children learn about the world around them.
At school, Shiloh was one of the more vocal students. If she got into trouble for anything it was arguing back with a teacher or asking too many questions in class. She loved to learn, but she also loved to push the boundaries of her education and in group activities she was the take-charge kid who showed great leadership potential from a young age. Reflecting on her early years in school, it was hardly surprising that later she would immerse herself in such activities at the debate team, year book committee and student council.
When she was thirteen, Jacques told Shiloh the truth about her biological mother. She already knew that Trisha hadn’t been her birth mother, but that didn’t matter in Shiloh’s eyes. Trisha was the one she called mother and nothing was going to change that for her, but Jacques still felt as though Shiloh deserved to know the truth before she found out in any other manner. Aimee had stopped trying to win her daughter back when Shi was eight, but Jacques still didn’t want to let his guard down, just in case she tried again. Shiloh had no intention of contacting Aimee herself, and while it was a lot to take in, she didn’t think that it changed anything about the family now. She had her parents, her brothers and that was all that really mattered to her.
As for high school, Shiloh was practically a blur for all of those years. She took as many classes as she could and her name was on enough extra-curricular activities to make someone’s head spin. She knew from the very first year in those corridors that she wanted to go into international politics. She could already speak fluent French and took up Spanish and German to bulk out her qualifications long before she even needed to start thinking about college. Most of the time, Jacques would find her asleep at her desk or on the couch. If anything, people had to tell the teenager to slow down and take a day to herself. Shiloh loved to keep busy and when she had nothing to do, she was more likely to get into mischief then!
When it came to university, Shiloh was spoilt for choices. Jacques wanted to keep his daughter close to home, but Shiloh wanted to go out of the country, since her dream was to be in international politics and relations. Eventually, and with much persuasion, Shiloh managed to convince her dad to let her study International Relations in New York City. Packing her bag and changing scenery and country for the second time in her eighteen years, Shi headed for the Big Apple, with her dreams, determination and more clothes than a girl should ever need!
