HISTORY:
Mom and dad had always wanted a boy, which was why they tried so many times. They stopped after Nola because mom was getting older, and her body wasn't doing as well as it had during her other pregnancies. Just because they wanted a boy, though, didn't mean they shunned us because we were girls. No. We were loved and treated just like normal children. Mom would have Bryna help her out in the kitchen or doing little chores around the house. Bryna loved doing that. She also liked taking care of Nola and Aisling, so she attempted to help out there, too. I was different, though. I liked the outdoors more, and I liked the animals we had on our little farm.
I helped dad out in the fields, herding sheep and cattle, taking care of the horses, feeding the dogs. I chased the chickens around. Basically, I just ran around and helped dad out. We lived in a small house, and when I was four, my mom's sister and mother moved into our house with us. It got cramped, but we dealt. Mommom got her own room, which dad had to build on to the house. Aunt Sa got to share a room with her two children, and Bryna, Aisling, and I shared a room. Mom and dad turned the basement into a room, having their room with Nola down there.
It was cramped, but I wouldn't have had it any other way. Everyone got along pretty well, and Aunt Sa helped momma out in the house, too, so it wasn't such a big load on just her. We all took care of mommom, her being nearly everyone's number one priority. My life was pretty normal until I turned fourteen. I entered high school, and I made a few new friends. They were all boys, but we hung out all the time, and they helped dad and I on the farm. They all really liked animals, too.
I joined the swim team that year, too, and the softball team. I was a pretty sporty girl during high school. My life consisted of sports, friends, and my family. Oh, and the farm. I had my first kiss at the age of sixteen with my best friend Devan, but nothing else happened between the two of us. I was more into getting through high school. I guess I just wasn't into dating yet. Maybe it was the fact that I wasn't really attracted to him, either. I was more crushing on Declan than Devan, but nothing happened there, either.
My senior year of high school, my friend Declan passed away. He was outside during a lightning storm, and a tree fell on him. It was pretty tragic, and my family grieved as if Declan was their own son. Devan and Crevan became closer to me, but my parents also told me that they were sending me off to the college of my choice. Bryna wanted to stay in Ireland and be a housewife like the other women in the family. Dad and mom knew that I wasn't going to sit around and let my husband take care of me, and they had saved a little bit of money each time they got money, and put it away for my college.
