Kind and Sweet– Kat is an optimist who likes to help anyone she can out. She does a lot of pro-bono work because she wants to give back as much as she can. She’s the type of person who will go out of her way to help someone with just about anything. After all, she was a surrogate for her older sister.

Determined – Kat has always had her head on straight, and she’s willing to do almost anything to get to where she wants to be in life. She doesn’t let things deter her from what she needs or wants to get done. If she’s not doing her best, she’s upset with herself.

Bubbly – Kat talks a lot. She can come off a little weird, but she’s just very outgoing. She laughs a lot and you can often hear her giggling along with her niece. She’s smiley and happy most of the time, and it can make people a little angry.

HISTORY:
Kat’s parents met when Brenda had moved from Wyoming to North Dakota for a job at a local elementary school. Stan happened to be a school counselor, so they often ran into each other, which lead to them going on dates. Brenda had been twenty-five, and Stan had been twenty-six. They dated for two years, engaged for a year, and then married for a year before they had their first born daughter Chloe. Brenda stayed teaching after she had their first daughter, and Stan went on to become the principal of the school when they had Kat. With two children now, they needed a little more money. They were always comfortable and never in debt. They made sure of that. They even started trusts for their daughters so that when they got older, they wouldn’t have to worry about paying for college.


From a young age, Kat and Chloe were taught that family was everything. Their parents made sure that everyone sat around the dinner table at night, and they made sure that the girls were both tucked into bed at night. Kat and Chloe shared a room, even though there were enough bedrooms in the house for them to each have their own. As they grew older, they became even closer than they had been when they were little. They were often giggling late at night even though their parents had said ‘lights out’. Chloe looked out for Kat, and Kat made sure Chloe didn’t do anything stupid. Chloe was a bit of a wild-child, though it might not seem like it. She talked back more to their parents and sneaked out at night. Kat was always covering for her older sister, wanting her approval. Kat made sure Chloe didn’t do anything that would cause her harm, but other than that, she let her do what she wanted to do.


During the summers of their childhood, their parents would let their friends come stay the night, and they always welcomed the neighboring children into their house. Growing up with Brenda and Stan as parents made the girls grow up to be compassionate and giving people, just like their parents. When Chloe went off to college, Kat was at a loss. She had no idea how to function without her sister by her side. They would often call each other on the phone and talk for hours. Kat would even go stay with Chloe during the weekends, if she were allowed. Three years later, Kat went to the same college as Chloe. They rented an apartment together, and two years later, Chloe met Luis. Luis moved in with the girls a few months after him and Chloe started dating, and Kat didn’t mind at all. She was happy that her sister had found someone to make her happy. Plus, Luis acted like a part of the family.


Brenda and Stan welcomed him with open arms. When Chloe graduated, she had a harder time finding a job in her profession (art), so she stayed at the apartment with Kat. Luis also had a degree in teaching, but it wasn’t enough to support a wife on. At the age of twenty-five, Chloe got married. They tried for a baby for four years until they gave up. Their doctor suggested they get a surrogate, and they immediately asked Kat. Kat, being twenty-four at the time, agreed without hesitation. It was Chloe after all. It was her best friend. After two tries, Kat became pregnant. She graduated from college, and she started working at a paralegal office. In the middle of her second trimester, Chloe and Luis had been shot when someone broke into their apartment. The doctors tried to save them, but it failed. Kat was at a loss, and she moved back in with her parents until the baby was born. Kat honored her sister and brother-in-law’s wish of naming their daughter Karlie. Kat had full custody of Karlie, since she was in her sister’s will.


When Karlie was about two months old, Kat decided that it was time to move forward in life. It had been half a year since her sister’s death, and sulking all the time was not going to be healthy for her or Karlie. So, she packed up and moved to New York, getting a job as an assistant D.A. . Her parents moved closer to her and Karlie, getting jobs in the city as well. Now Kat’s life revolves around her little niece and work.
