KAM TIMOTHY VAN BEUREN
FULL NAME: Kameryn Timothy Van Beuren
NICKNAMES: Kam, Kammy
AGE: Twenty Nine
GENDER: male
SEXUALITY: Straight
STATUS: Single
GROUP: Citizen
GRADE: N/A
MAJOR: N/A
JOB OCCUPATION: Oil TycoonHAIR: Kam keeps his naturally light brown hair kept at a decent length. It’s longer on the top than on the sides but it works well for him. Once or twice in the past, he thought it a good idea to shave it down to next to nothing but it didn’t quite suit so he didn’t do it often
EYES: Green
SCARS/BIRTHMARKS: None.
TATTOOS: Kam has quite a few tattoos that he’s been able to keep secret from his sister. He’s got a full sleeve and one that’s almost complete. His full one had three sugar skulls, a pinup girl hidden in among a royal flush, eight ball, flames and a boombox. It’s also got a colourful cartoon style owl and spiderwebs to fill it out where the shading and stars wouldn’t quite work. The other arm has three people, two women and one man all sporting animal skin hats. They are a bear, panther and lion respectively. He’s got a pocket watch that is as similar as he could get to that of the White Rabbit’s, Mr Toad and a cat in a slouchy beanie surrounded by flowers and he’s got a pink diamond on the inside of his wrist. His left rib cage has two quotes in two different fonts so they can be separated while his right has “We are freaks” just about a pair of arrows pointing in opposite directions. He’s a pair of cassette tapes, one on the top of each foot. He’s got a triangle on his right middle finger that he’s managed to keep hidden with a large bandage and he’s got yet another arrow on the side of his left pinky finger which no one has commented on yet, though is also usually covered by a bandage when he’s at the office. And he’s always thinking up more. In fact, he’s currently trying to piece out a back piece before he goes ahead and gets it inked.
PIERCINGS: If any.
PLAY-BY: Andre Hamann!LIKES: Strong coffee, stocks going up, jogs through the park, horses, Stephen King novels, his sister (though he’s often asked why), closing a business deal, exotic vacations, catching a football game, modern art, dogs, having a fire going, strong bourbon, tattoos, surfing, Alice in Wonderland
DISLIKES: Splitting his time between New York and Dallas, Texas, tea, finger sandwiches, fancy coffee drinks, cats, romance movies, his sister’s attitude, getting calls at three in the morning, constantly worrying about Marina, tennis, working late, gluten-free everything
FEARS: Losing Marina, getting stabbed or carjacked, finding out the woman he loves is only after his money
SECRETS: Kam takes numerous vacations claiming to be spending time with Marina to the office and having a lot of work related meetings to Marina so he can get away and pretend like his whole life doesn’t revolve around the family business and his sister, though it obviously does.
PERSONALITY: Kam had always been the perfect gentleman, having grown up being taught that was the only way. He was raised with money and the privilege that came along with it but Kameryn isn’t exactly the perfect gentleman his parents had hoped him to be as a child. He’s inked and had been since he’d entered college and found his love for tattoos as well as his adrenaline junkie hobbies. He’s not your average billionaire businessman, obviously but he’s quite good at what he does and has even started taking his half of the family business and investing in other areas nothing close to the oil business. Kam is a calm guy though and very family oriented but his sister makes it very difficult for him to stay sane. He’s the athletic type, taking the time out of his busy schedule to jog through the park every day. He takes life a bit too serious since his sister is a few sheep short of a herd and doesn’t quite get it yet. These days, this charming man is just trying to find a little romance in the big apple. He’s a bit of a worrier, mostly because if he wasn’t, he’d probably find his sister in a drunk tank somewhere or worse; the morgue. He’d be the next to break if that ever happened.MOTHER: Anne Lauren Van Beuren & Deceased.
FATHER: Gregory Luke Van Beuren & Deceased.
SIBLINGS: Marina Viviene Van Beuren & 25.
OTHERS: Nadine Prescott, 29 & Best Friend
PETS: None at the moment!
HOMETOWN: Dallas, Texas.
HISTORY: The Van Beuren family started in the oil business some three generations before Kameryn and his sister, Marina were born. They were raised like those before them to the perfect gentleman and lady. Kam had been groomed from a young age to take over the family business when the time came. He knew the ins and outs of it long before he’d entered college life. Like his father and grandfather before him, Kameryn was groomed with the best manners and social skills, he could easily keep up his end of pointless banter and smile and nod as if he really gave two damns about what the other person was saying. But like his parents before him, Kameryn was introduced to many appropriate young women whom he was meant to court and basically pick one to settle down with. But the girls he met at the dinners and fancy events were too proper, too groomed to be Stepford Wives, care more about rearing children and organising events.
Kameryn wasn’t really the son his parents wanted. What they saw and what was real were complete opposites. Kam was a bit of an adrenaline junkie, though he hadn’t figured that out until he was in his twenties and out on his own. His time in school was filled with friends and sports, keeping his grades up because it was expected of him and if he were being honest, it was a little bit easy. He made friends easily as well and knew how to turn away those few that irritated him. Reality was, for Kameryn, it was kind of fun to be him. Sure, he eventually had to run a business he didn’t really want but the rest of it wasn’t so bad. He found his love for all things that made his heart pump in university. He joined a fraternity as a legacy, like his father before him. He was welcomed with open arms and found he loved the atmosphere of the house he shared with his brothers.
It was during his time as a business major he found his love for surfing, rock climbing and all sorts of adventurous hobbies. He had a nice young woman his parents would approve of that he brought home to dinners and luncheons, all the social events but they weren’t together. In reality, they were both from the same circle, grew up together and attended the same schools but Nadine realised young that she was as big a fan of the ladies as Kameryn was so they made a deal. They would play the happy couple in front of their parents but once they were done with their familiar duties, they went their separate ways. Kam met all sorts of women whilst at college and had his fair share of fun times with them but none of them were anyone he would have brought home to his parents. They were just good fun. And forgotten just as soon as the door closed behind them. Quickly school was through and Kam and Nadine had the genius plan to move in together so they could keep their real lives and their family lies a part. And it worked well for them.
Kam stayed close to Marina but he didn’t let her stay over often because that meant explaining things to anyone. He trusted Marina but word would eventually get out if more than the pair of them were keeping the secret. So whenever Marina stayed the night, they claimed Nadine’s room was hers and it kept everyone sane; because secrets could be kept that way. Things started to go downhill, though he hadn’t known it yet, when Marina took ill while they were out on the usual dinner the siblings did weekly. He took her home and asked her to give him a call to let him know how she was feeling later. Then he went about his business and forgot about it all for a couple days, expecting that Marina was in bed the entire time or fell into wedding planning mode and forgot to call him. So after three days, he went round to hers and found her. She told him everything that happened when she’d returned home that night. Kam had never been a fan of Marina’s fiance but with his little sister, he knew he really couldn’t say anything so he’d kept his mouth shut. And as long as the man treated Marina well, he really had no complaints he could voice.
Big brother thought things were going alright, despite the fact that within weeks news was spreading about Marina’s fiance announcing his engagement to another woman. Kam had hoped Marina would be able to tough it out, and maybe she might have been if their mother hadn’t been claimed by a stroke. It had been a shock to everyone and it had left Kam a little shaken, forgetting his brotherly duties a little bit. He ran to the coast for a few days to surf and forget that he would return to a home without his mother. But he did return and moved back into his childhood home so he could be closer to his family in their time of need. Nadine stuck around to be the doting girlfriend but Kam’s heart wasn’t really in it and they both knew he couldn’t keep up the lies they were feeding everyone so they called it quits on the fake life. She kept the apartment, Kam didn’t mind, though they stayed best friends and Nadine did help out when Kam needed a friend.
It was hard to see Marina stop being the Marina he’d grown up and become someone Kam didn’t know. She’d always been this bubbly, wonderfully spirited girl with an entire world at her fingertips and now Kam didn’t know who she was. She was a mess and he was the one they called when she needed to be picked up, cleaned up. He’d actually thought she’d been coming round, she’d been doing good, she’d been calm and collected but it had all been a front because it had been coming up to wedding day. He’d felt something was off but he’d been too late to follow Marina. But news like that spread quicker than an oil spill and Kam practically flew to the wedding to drag his sister, dolled up her own pretty wedding gown out of the church and out of the city entirely. He would have spent a lot more time there than they had if that phone call hadn’t come through. Kam had tried in vein to get them to the hospital but once again, he’d been too late. This time though, Marina’s breakdown happened in front of medical professionals and that was something that had needed to happen in his opinion. He didn’t want her in a hospital or a blatant mental health facility. Some doctors suggested a retreat and Kam quickly made the arrangements.
After so much loss, he really didn’t want to lose his sister. Marina stayed away while Kam took over the family business, a job that he’d been groomed for since he’d been young. Of course, when Marina was allowed to leave, Kam brought her home; only to be told Texas was not where she wanted to be. And quite frankly, Kam had to agree. Marina couldn’t be in Texas. There had been too much that went on in the great state that she couldn’t continue to live there and get better at the same time. It would never have been possible. He was shocked of course, and could do little to think it wasn’t the right choice so he watched his little sister pack her things and make arrangements to move across the country. It was obvious the time Marina spent away did little to treat her. But it was already too late and she was already saying her goodbyes.
Unable to leave Marina to her own devices, for fear he’d get another phone call that told him he’d lost the only family he had left, Kameryn found himself a nice apartment in New York, keeping the family estate with all the household staff around because he still needed to be there once in a while. He could for the most part, run the family business from New York, he’d found himself some nice office space and a decorator to furnish the place. But there were times when he needed to be in Texas. And there was no point in paying for a hotel or crashing on someone’s couch when he had a perfectly good home in the state that belonged to him and his sister. He demanded things from Marina if she wanted to stay in New York. She needed to fly to Texas a few times a year to the important meetings that needed both of them at, a few of the more important dinners and events and the rest of the time she could pretend like Texas never existed.
Daniel hates the fact that his life currently revolves around keeping his sister alive and work but it’s what he has to do to make sure he’s not getting a knock at the door at four in the morning, finding police at his door with their hats in their hands to deliver the terrible news. If he has to keep his phone on through the night, keep weird sleeping habits and take Skype meetings in pyjama pants then that was exactly what he was going to do. At least, until Marina really hits rock bottom and realises for herself that she genuinely needs help and starts the process of getting it herself. Until then, he would stay up late, filling the time with work, waiting to get a phone call from either his sister or one of the numerous bouncers employed through the city after finding his number and giving him a call to come pick his sister up off the sidewalk. It was a very thankless job, especially since it gave him no time to find romance of his own but someone needed to take care of Marina, everyone knew she couldn’t do the job herself.
