He prefers to grow it to a longer length just beyond his jaw, but if he’s playing the professional, smart role in front of his company peers, he cuts it short. It’s also short when he knows it’s getting out of hand and he’s going away for a while – gives it the time to grow back out.

SECRETS: He carries a photograph of his mother and father on their wedding day in the back of his wallet, tucked behind his work ID – life goals.
PERSONALITY: Cullen is a pretty laidback kind of guy with a heart of gold. He’s a very charitable man who is known for his philanthropy. He’s committed and hardworking, but at the same time, Cullen understands the importance of taking time for himself and the other important things in his life. He’s a dreamer who has a mile long bucketlist he’s actively working on emptying and humble, though many do consider him an inspiring man. Active, Cullen is also keen to try anything at least once, and approaches life enthusiastically with a ‘seize the day’ gusto that he feels is often lost in the humdrum New York way. Despite being single currently, he’s a family man and a wonderful brother, son and uncle with massive dreams of having his own little posse one day to go home to each night. He’s protective of things and people he cares about, and Cullen can easily be described as a very passionate man. He’s intelligent and cool; always keeping a level head when others might be panicking or freaking out. He’s the type of guy who knows what he wants and does what is necessary to have it. He’s full of surprises, a total charmer who can win most people over. He can be a bit intense at times with how forward and eager for life he is, but Cullen is mostly harmless. He just doesn’t want to waste a minute of the time he has on this earth. He’s a romantic and a big bundle of energy who wants to zip off in every direction at every second. It can be exhausting to keep up with him.MOTHER: Adele Kaija Johansson, 68.

HISTORY: When Adele was reunited with Otso after being separated from her childhood sweetheart for college, she wasn’t at all surprised to see him chasing dreams and making changes in the world. He had always spoke about changing the universe some day, and he had plans to do that when they had parted. She still loved him, and he her, but now he had the financial security to give her a long and happy future, along with the family they had always spoke about having. They married in the spring and Cullen was born in the winter. Otso was just coming into his own with his business, making great leaps and strides and getting his name out there. He worked with energy though his concepts were complicating for anyone who wasn’t caught up with engineering.
Cullen was a happy and loved little boy. He was an excellent older brother when Tobias and Helena came along. He was six when Otso made it big enough that they were living in a life of luxury. The children attended a good school, they vacationed a few times a year and none of them had a care in the world. Life was grand and glorious and Otso had worked extremely hard to make it that way for them. He had come from nothing had earned everything with something he had built during his college thesis.
The family moved to America when Cullen was twelve. There was a shot at big investment over there and it was an opportunity not to be missed. However, before he turned fourteen, Cullen watched his father lose everything, and the family went from the top all the way to the bottom. Something went wrong in a new product his father was producing and it had a domino effect on everything he had ever done. Investors pulled out, some sued for damages and within a year they were penniless and living on borrowed money from the grandparents. It was a mistake no one had seen coming, but it ruined them. They were living in Florida at the time, but found themselves in a tiny house where things were constantly breaking. Otso found another job working as an engineer, but it was his dreams that had been stolen from him. He knew he could never do it all again; his name was tarnished. He felt like he had let everyone down.
The family survived. Cullen’s parents had skills that could provide. By the time he was enrolled in high school, they were in a modest home, able to make ends meet and talking about heading back to Finland for the holidays. It was just Otso’s hope that had been culled, and with his all of his desire to ever dream again. The man who Cullen had once looked up to had gone and that was devastating, because Cullen aspired to follow in his footsteps.
Cullen was a fairly popular kid. He was good looking and played sports for the high school teams; athletics and basketball. However, his true passion was the sciences. Not many of the kids knew that he was “a total nerd”, but he aced all of his exams and had his heart set on one of the best schools. Because of his looks, no one thought twice that Cullen could be a brainiac. He dated around, but no one really held his attention enough. He wanted the kind of love his parents had, and even when he was only a teenager he didn’t want to waste his time or make foolish mistakes with what would only be a backseat fumble and someone to avoid at a high school reunion.
He went to MIT, making his father proud and reigniting a small spark of fire in Otso. Cullen never mentioned ideas or plans he had, but just got on with his studies and student life. He made the most of his time there, enjoying the four years before staying on to further his education. He didn’t stop until he had a doctorate and something that would make his father proud. Himself and two other friends had come up with a product that could help with renewable energy. They put it into practice and found that it worked. At first they were talking about just selling it and making their money and then getting on with their lives, but Cullen thought about his father and everything that they had been through and lost. It was that sort of thing that had cost them everything. No, he wanted to remain in control of what they had created and so him and his friends decided to start up their own company.
Cullen was twenty-eight when he made his first million. It was ridiculous and he was delirious, but everything was working in his favour. He bought his parents a house, and helped his sister have the wedding she wanted. The company was booming, and they were a hit. Cullen, remembering how his family had lost everything, began doing more charity work and helping out local communities. Had his dad not already known such a well needed trade, they could have been having their dinner in soup kitchens and shopping in thrift stores. Otso was immensely proud of his son, overjoyed, but it was only a few months later that he suddenly dropped dead after a massive heart attack. No one could understand; the man was incredibly healthy. Even doctors were astounded. The family were crushed and Cullen became more determined to make the company thrive in the name of his father, and live his life to the fullest. His father’s death had only shown him the truth of mortality.
At thirty, his two buddies who boarded the project with him left the company. They had enough money to live comfortably, and were content to leave Cullen in charge. They had made their mark, and were there if he should ever need to reach out to them, but they wanted to just so off into the sunset with their wives and kids and live the easy life. Retirement at thirty was a crazy dream, but not for Cullen. He stuck with everything, expanded out and made a move to New York City where he could go global. So far they were national and thriving, but beyond was pretty damn good, too. He took on more employees, men and women who could help him run things. He worked hard, but made sure to take a few months out of the year for himself, to indulge in travel and experiences he wouldn’t otherwise get to enjoy. He wanted to live his life as well as change the world and he couldn’t see the harm in doing both.
Cullen watched his siblings start their own families. He wanted one himself, but no woman he dated seemed to be able to keep up with him. Either that or they just wanted him for the money. Some didn’t seem to like how much he would give away to charities or blow at fundraisers. They thought that money should be spent on a holiday villa somewhere the sun doesn’t stop shining. Cullen couldn’t spend his life with someone like that. He needed someone just as adventurous and loving as he was, but they must have been a rare breed, because whenever he thought he might have found one, they slipped away for some reason or another.
That’s why, at thirty-six now, he’s still working hard and making a difference in the world as best as he can. He’s the best uncle in the world with two mugs to prove it, but there’s still a void in his life that needs filling.
