PERSONALITY: Too often Rhydian can come across as a bit of a hard ass but it's not intentional. He's actually quite a sweet and caring man but in his profession, it doesn't pay to be kind. Rhydian is quite the charmer, often winning people over with his devilish smirk. He has those classic good looks of an Abercrombie and Fitch model but it hadn't been until high school that he'd been told he would be a heart breaker. As a child, he'd been that cute, chunk of a kid in the back of the class that no one really talked to. And then he went to his grandparent's house for the summer before high school, worked on the farm, grew a few inches towards the sky, dropped a few inches around his middle and viola! That summer brought a lot out in Rhydian. He learned valuable life lessons and realised it was okay to be both the jock and the geek; there was someone out there for everyone. Rhydian's mother downright refused to have disrespectful children. So all of the Callaghan kids were polite, respectful and the boys were very gentlemanly. There had been no real need for any of those things but Rhyd was grateful all the same. And while he'd been the rebel child during his teenage years, Rhydian really grew up and into his own during college. But those four years brought on a romantic side he had never known as well the knowledge of what happened after the romance wore off and true characters came to light. These days, Rhydian keeps his heart guarded, well under wraps. And knows his stubborn nature would have to be met with an even more difficult person. Because once Rhydian has his sights set on something, he doesn't stop until he has it in his hands.MOTHER: Marlene Callaghan & 67.

HISTORY: Marlene and Harley Callaghan met through a mutual friend who had set them up on a blind date. Both had been complaining about how there were no single people around their ages to meet anymore. Their friend had been happily married for some time and wanted the same thing for the pair of them. So they both agreed, met up at some nice restaurant that neither of them could remember the name of, which was good since neither of them could pronounce it either, and they hit it off rather well. Marlene was a triage nurse for the local hospital so her schedule was hectic at the best of times and finding the time to meet people was hardly a cake walk. And Harley was a partner at his family's law firm, having worked his way up that corporate ladder rather quickly, thanks in part to the last name he shared with the man in charge. But he was a damn good lawyer, everyone said so and understood how he flew up the ranks so quickly. He was a shark to say the least. But he was a shark with a heart and took on more pro bono work than anyone else at the firm.
Fast forward about six years and the pair were happily married with two children and one more on the way. He or she would be their last addition to the James brood. Marlene's family had originally been from Wales and the family were there to sort through an estate when Rhydian had been born, thus the ethnic name they chose for him. He didn't mind it when he was growing up. He quite liked being the only Rhydian he knew. There were always a dozen Michael's, Scott's and Billy's. There were so few Rhydian's that he was unique. He was a pudgy little guy and he had a huge heart, wanting to help everyone, even as a toddler. He was precocious, always getting himself into trouble but what else was expected from a curious kid, really? His older brother and sister were much the same way. The family ended up keeping the house in Wales and Marlene's parent's decided it was time to return to their original home and her own mother's stead but the family moved back to Boston.
the children grew up understanding the value of hard work and the polite manners of their elders. Rhydian and his brother Bailey were taught to be gentlemen, open doors for women, have a polite word for everyone. In a city like Boston, it was a little out of place. The summer before Rhydian was to attend high school, he returned to Wales and his grandparents. His brother and sister, Frankie had had the option to go as well but Bailey was already in college, starting down the same path as their father and grandfather before him. And Frankie had managed to get an internship at some tech company so she had also been out. Rhydian went on alone and he ended up having the time of his life in the Welsh countryside. He met so many people, made so many friends and grew up before his grandparent's very eyes. It had been difficult for him to say goodbye to them in the end but he promised to return every summer after until he couldn't any longer.
When he returned home, his own parent's hadn't recognised him, he'd grown so much. When Rhydian had left, he'd been a pudgy thirteen year old but when he returned he'd had at least six inches of height to him and he'd slimmed right down to muscle and bones from working on the small farm. It had been a good experience for the teenager and brought him to see that he wanted what his father wanted for him but he didn't want to be the cut-throat shark of a lawyer that he was, he wanted to do some good. So he studied his ass off to get into a good, international school,. choosing Oxford to attend pre-law. In the year he spent there, he made more friends, met so many people and fell in love with a pretty English girl named Rose. They were the cutest couple and Rhydian had thought they would last but in the summer before he was supposed to return to America and attend Yale's law school, she broke off their engagement, telling him she didn't love him nearly enough to marry him.
It had broken Rhydian but he wouldn't let it bring him down completely. He'd had a plan most of his life and a setback as depressing as that one wouldn't stop him from achieving that goal of his. So he packed up his things, shipped what he could to his home back in Boston and the rest went to his grandparent's estate and he returned to attend Yale. But he went there with a closed off heart, hoping and praying he didn't meet a nice girl he could see a future with because the last one had devastated him so badly. And thankfully, though he'd met a lot of ladies and dated his fair share of them, he hadn't been so far in love with them that he took a next step to define their relationships. They were casual and that had been all he'd been after since the heartbreak. With law school finished, Rhydian chose an internship in New York, taking the bar there and passing with exceptional colours. He was quick and shortly afterwards found himself a position at the District Attorney's office. He was only a law clerk but it was a start, a stepping stone to where he eventually wanted to see himself. And now at twenty-eight, Rhydian is a little scared of what lies ahead of him. He has his plan still but he's getting awfully lonely with just his casual flings; too bad he's too scared to open up his heart again.
