FEARS: the morgue, scorpions, the dentist.
SECRETS: Mona started out with dreams of being a CSI, but after she witnessed the scene of the accident where her father died she realised she didn’t have the stomach for it. That was why she went into fingerprint analysis, and turned out to be pretty darn spectacular at it. She doesn’t like admitting the weakness though.
PERSONALITY: A sports fan, Ramona is very athletic, just like the rest of her family, though these days she is more focused on keeping fit for her own sake and for protection, rather than for the love of sport. She’s intelligent and quick thinking which has made her one of the best in her field. People have wondered why she’s kept to NYC, and why she’s kept to fingerprints, but Mona doesn’t want to branch out much further. She likes being good at something and is content with the way things are. She prides herself on keeping balanced, and works hard to make sure that her head remains clear and that she leaves her job at the door of the crime lab. Mona is focused and strives to do the best she can all the time. A kind woman, Mona is the type who will make time for others and help out others in the lab when she can. Modest, Mona isn’t one to brag or take all of the credit when she successfully finds something. Organised, she sometimes struggles between logical thoughts and what her heart is telling her. Keeping her emotions in check isn’t one of Mona’s strongest skills, which is why she has outlets, or why she is sometimes caught with a tear in her eye. Compassionate, Mona can usually relate to people and for that reason it’s very difficult for her to lose her temper. She’s more likely to forgive people than get angry at them, though there are times when she can find herself struggling to feel that forgiveness. Ramona isn’t a very flirtatious woman, and can sometimes miss when a guy is interested in her. Beyond that she’s not been able to connect with a guy because there’s just not been the passion there. She needs that passion.MOTHER: Lauren Jane Priest, 60.

HISTORY: Mikey was the new kid who had just been signed to the Yankees when he met Lauren. She was a college kid whose dad was a huge baseball fan. Their meeting was purely coincidental, but it was a case of love at first sight. They dated for three years, and then Mikey got down on one knee at the end of the game that saw the Yankees win the World Series. They married the following year in a lavish affair that saw both friends and family come from all over to celebrate the happy couple. It was another two years of refurbishing the old home they had bought together before they had their first child. A son called Jensen came first, and then a little while later they had Ramona, and then Kelly.
All three of the kids were raised to love sports. They had their passions when they were kids, all played to appease their parents and their loves. They went and watched their dad play every time, and also went to watch football games with their grandfather; their dad’s dad. It was a great childhood and none of them would change a minute of it. Mona was close to her siblings from a young age and even when they were growing up they still remained close enough to call each other friends and turn to each other for advice. It was an easy life for the most part, and the children were all raised with good manners, and excellent social skills.
At school, Ramona was a pretty popular girl. She was a nice looking girl, kind to others and easy to get along with. She didn’t date much because she knew her father would hate most of the guys in her class. They were all young, eager to see beyond a girl’s clothes, and a little on the keen side. She didn’t have to date though. Her father’s reputation was enough to keep her in the ranks of the cool kids, and her own friendly personality, along with the existence of a big brother, kept her from being belittled or bullied by anyone in her class. If people hated her, and she knew at least one girl did, they kept it mostly to themselves, because it wasn’t worth the social backlash to mention it in front of the rest of the teenagers.
Ramona always knew that she wanted to go into law enforcement, but she didn’t want to be part of the academy or wear a uniform. It was forensics that held her attention right from when she saw a show on one of the documentary channels about how it could help to solve a crime. Mona thought she might become a CSI. She studied hard in the necessary subjects so she could go to college to study for the job, and her parents were curious as to why their pretty daughter might choose such a chilling career for herself. She explained that it was how she wanted to help people; Mona wanted to be a part of something bigger, and do something worthwhile with her time. She had never seen herself as a teacher or as anything else, but this she could see herself doing for the rest of her life.
She went to college at Columbia. Working hard to make the cut and working harder to keep her place there. Her family were so proud of her and supported her decisions. Mona was home for the summer between her junior and senior year when the accident happened that killed her father. Mikey had retired from baseball by then, but worked as part of the coaching staff at the Yankees. He was still fit as ever, and passionate about the sport that had been his life. They were supposed to be having a family day out. Jensen was recently married, and they were all meant to be spending the day in Central Park. Mikey had gone off to pick up some of their favourite treats from a local bakery that had been in the city for as long as they had lived there, when a speeding motorbike knocked him down. Mona went after him when they decided he was taking too long, and she came across the scene complete with police cars and paramedics. It was a memory that turned into a nightmare for the blonde and after pushing her way past the police barricade to be with her dad, she realised that she couldn’t go into the career she wanted.
There was so much blood, so much of a wreckage of the mangled bike and the rider. The rider survived with minor injuries, but Mikey died after a week on life support. Ramona tried to put herself back on track, but every time she looked at crime scene images she just had flashes back to her father’s accident. It was for that reason that she chose to specialise in fingerprint analysis and put herself in the crime labs instead. Mentally, it was a safer environment for her, but it still gave her a shot at the career she wanted.
After finishing up school, graduating with honours, Ramona joined the crime labs of the NYPD. It didn’t take long for people to notice that she was good at her job, very good. A few more years and her name was up there with the best in her specialty. She barely made a mistake, and was called in for some of the biggest cases when the NYPD needed to provide results. Even the FBI offered her a job after she helped on a case that they were called in on, but Ramona didn’t want the big praise or the pressure. She liked her little lab with the backlogged NYPD. One day she might crave for move, but she secretly likes being the big fish in a small pond, even if she’s too modest to realise it herself.
