TATTOOS: One on his wrist of a cat, same as what his best friend has; a drunken dare to each other.

SECRETS: Spencer was stalked throughout college by a girl who he went on one date with. She didn’t leave him alone and even with a restraining order in place she still found ways to harass him. Eventually she was arrested when she attacked the girl Spencer was dating when he graduated, but the attack cost Spencer his girlfriend.
PERSONALITY: Spencer comes from money, but he doesn’t radiate that. He’s classy, but his interests are things he picked up from friends at boarding school and his family. He’s confident and ambitious and doesn’t hold back when his mind is set on something career wise. He has big goals for his future. Cultured, mostly thanks to his upbringing, Spencer knows a lot about the places of the world and the ways in which they see others. He’s realistic and doesn’t believe in any kind of fairy tale ending, but at the same time he’s hopeful for the future and how it can turn out. Approachable, but not overly friendly, Spencer is easy to talk to, articulate, but sometimes he can speak a little too wordy for people to keep up with. His artistic interests are purely aesthetic since he’s not creative himself; his head is more for business. He’s not at all a violent man, but rather a peacekeeper and he’s used to mediating between friends when they’ve fallen out; he kind of enjoys playing the neutral party. As for love, Spencer is no stranger to dating in adulthood, but he’s yet to find anyone to spend his life with. He’s charming and flirtatious, but it’s not been enough so far.MOTHER: Raquel Louisa Briggs, 56 .

HISTORY: Donald came from the wealth of his parents. Both inherited money from their parents and invested it into their own business that went global after only a few years. By the time Donald met Raquel he was running the business with his brother. Him and Raquel were married in a short space of time, and had their children not long after that. Spencer was their firstborn and Caroline followed four years later. They were a happy family, but both parents worked a great deal. Raquel had her own position at Donald’s company, heading up the financial department there. It was for that reason that Spencer and Caroline spent their infant years in the care of nannies, seeing their parents only when it was time for bed, and on the weekends when they would do family things like going to the park and taking trips out of the city to spend quality time together.
When it came time to send the kids to school, the parents decided that boarding school would be the best. They also decided that it would be a good idea to send them somewhere so they could see the world a little better. For that reason, Spencer spent his junior years at a boarding school in Sweden before moving to England for his senior education. Caroline did the same for her own education, but was at a different school. They never found out why the parents chose to send them to different schools, but Spencer learnt not to question his parents unless you really wanted to get a headache from his explanations of statistics and round the world excuses. It was just so much easier to accept Donald’s ways and just get on with life.
In school, Spencer never really amounted to much. He made good grades and he had big dreams for his future, but he wasn’t big on the social scene. He suffered with terrible acne, struggled to find where he belonged for many years, and just kept his head down for the most part. Having money was really the only thing that saved him back then, but even that barely did the job. He never really enjoyed school all that much and preferred it when the term was over and he would fly back to Auckland to be in the family home. Of course, being a kid who was shipped off to boarding school meant that he didn’t return home to friends in Auckland, but he didn’t mind that. The family went on vacations and spent some good time together, and Spencer had his own interests and a library to keep him busy when he was back in New Zealand.
His interest in art came when he was a teenager. He had no artistic talent himself, but he could appreciate it. He learnt about the masters, the unknowns and developed his knowledge of most areas of the art world. It was a hobby to pass the time, something to keep him busy, but ultimately it was what took him to college. He went to Stanford where he studied Art History and Business in a combined degree. He had no interest to go into the family business, at least no immediately, which was a choice Donald respected. Spencer didn’t have a head for the mechanics of the business or the numbers that Donald could spout off effortlessly. He also thought that the decision was accepted more easily with the fact that Caroline was already interning there and showing great promise for the future whilst balancing her own university classes. Caroline had chosen to remain in Auckland for her higher education so she could learn the business, so it all worked nice and easy for the family.
It was at Stanford that Spencer started to come out of his shell. He found some friends, had lost his acne, and was finding his confidence. Four years of friendships, having fun, and breaking a few rules, Spencer came out of university feeling alive and ready for the next challenge. He began to date, too. During his sophomore year he went on a single date with Valerie Graceland. It was terrible and while she was physically attractive Spencer felt no connection overall and didn’t ask her out again. Valerie though thought differently and had Spencer pegged as her soulmate. She stalked him around the campus, on nights out, and even back to his apartment. He moved once, changed his number countless times, and even got a restraining order put on her when she kept harassing him and sabotaging his chances with other girls. It went quiet for a while at the end of his senior year and he hoped that maybe Valerie had gotten the message. She hadn’t though. After leaving his then girlfriend with some of her friends after their date one night, Valerie attacked her with a bottle at a bar. His girlfriend needed stitches and wanted nothing more to do with his crazy life, but Valerie was sent to jail. It might have only been for eighteen months, but it was enough time for Spencer to get gone and hopefully for Valerie to learn a lesson.
He worked as a tour guide in an art gallery whilst he was at school, and continued on there while he worked on his Masters. After that he headed to New York to try his luck there, which was how he landed in The Whitney. At first he was a tour guide for six months, before moving up to one of the assistants of the bosses there. That job lasted a year before he took an interview for management when his boss chose to retire. He had worked hard and put in the hours, and despite his young age, he knew more about the paintings in the gallery and the ones that were soon to be coming in than any other applicant. The job was his before he knew it.
Spencer is content. For now. He will always strive to climb higher, maybe even own his own gallery one day rather than manage one, but right now he needs this. He’s still young and there’s still a lot of people out there who notice that about him before they notice anything else. He needs to make them see beyond that before he can take another leap up the career ladder.
