DRUSILLA SERAFINA BELMONTE
FULL NAME: Drusilla Serafina Belmonte.
NICKNAMES: Dru. She goes by Dru.
AGE: Twenty-two
GENDER: Female
SEXUALITY: Straight.
STATUS: Single.
GROUP: Student.
GRADE: Junior.
MAJOR: Chemistry.
JOB OCCUPATION: Font bar staff. She also ‘does a bit on the side’ for cash.HAIR: Short, naturally an auburn shade, but she plays with dyes on occasion. She keeps it in a graduated bob, but it’s been known to be grown out when she wants to style it, and it grows crazy fast which is both a blessing and a curse. Dru usually wears it kind of messy.
EYES: Dark brown.
SCARS/BIRTHMARKS: She has one on her thigh from an accident when she fell off a motorbike when she was sixteen, and another on the inside of her right wrist from a drunken night out. She doesn’t remember the specifics, just being in the hospital getting stitches and shouting at her sort-of-boyfriend at the time.
TATTOOS: None, but she jokes to her mother about getting one right across her back. She might actually do it one day.
PIERCINGS: Earlobes three times, right helix twice.
PLAY-BY: Allison Scagliotti!LIKES: Keeping her hands busy, bubblegum, drinking wine from the bottle, shouting at people in Italian, black nail polish, cooking Italian dishes, old tunnels and buildings, scaring young kids, jeans, concerts, listening to new music, blasting her iPod, singing in the shower, truffles, oranges, fresh food, creepy crawlies, boots, bossing people, chess, fireworks, road trips, music festivals, rock music, guitars, eating cake mix, Star Trek, getting out of trouble, Back To The Future, hot chocolate, the warehouse district.
DISLIKES: Needing to call her brother for help, getting caught, being threatened, lectures from her ma, feeling sleepy, pork, bland food, people who beg, prima-donnas, trashy girls, stiletto heels, fancy dates, cheap cars, being bossed around, exams, rashes, hospitals, warm nights, awkward moments, pears, latex (allergic), sports movies, medicine, spinning rides, oily skin, snowstorms, skirts and dresses, car alarms at 3am, being compared to her sister, cops, antibiotics, reading textbooks for class.
FEARS: Settling down, dying in hospital, crows.
SECRETS: She’s a surprisingly great chef, and her brother offered her a spot in his restaurant if she wanted it. Dru wasn’t ready for responsibility or even settling into something so normal. She cooks only for herself these days, and around others eats copious amounts of take out.
PERSONALITY: Drusilla is very loud and forward; definitely not the type to beat around the bush about anything. She’s intelligent, but she’s more likely to put her smarts to use in hobbies that are probable to see her in front of a judge and a jury. Dru has always been a magnet for trouble, but she’s quick and sly enough to get away with the things she does these days – she’s learnt from her past enough to be better at it. A tomboy to the core, Dru isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty, and she’s also not afraid of hard work of the practical kind. She’s tough and not afraid to throw the first punch in a fight, but Dru’s hard shell hides an inside full of hurt; she’s not exactly proud that her parents and sister are often fighting with her, and it upsets her more than she lets on to anyone. She’s creative, both a lover of music and when she’s in the kitchen, but Dru keeps most of that to herself. What people really see of her is the rebellious girl who pushes the edges of the law. Confident and stubborn there is no controlling Dru, or talking her down when her mind is set on something, even it means letting her get a hairsbreadth away from getting arrested. Despite her personality oozing confidence, and her passion for instilling fear in those younger than her, Dru has a fear of settling down, and she’s pretty oblivious when it comes to guys hitting on her since she’s just so stuck in her own bubble, doing her own thing. The idea of going on a date is probably the only thing that fills Dru with that awkward feeling and leaves her babbling like a complete dork.MOTHER: Juliet Helena Belmonte, 54.
FATHER: Marcello Salvatore Belmonte, 55.
SIBLINGS: Marco Tiberio Belmonte, 28.
Carlotta Natala Belmonte, 26.
OTHERS: N/A.
PETS: None!
HOMETOWN: Catania, Italy.
HISTORY: Juliet and Marcello were the kids who tried to outdo each other at school. They were both top of their class, but they needed to be the best and they were fierce rivals in the corridors of their high school. What Juliet didn't know was that Marcello was trying to impress her. He had liked her since they were twelve, but she was clueless until finally one of his friends had had enough of the antics between them and outright told her in the middle of a café where most of the teenagers hung out after school and on the weekends. Juliet was flabbergasted, and a little mortified at being shown up. She fled the scene and Marcello chased her if only to apologise for his friend's behaviour. He was embarrassed for having his feelings thrown out there, but he was more concerned about her. She asked him why he had never told her and he pointed out that she never gave him a chance with all the academic rivalry between them. Juliet wouldn't consider becoming serious with Marcello until after she had graduated university and secured her dream job, but Marcello told his friends that she was worth the wait. In the end she was, and their wedding was an extravagant outdoor affair full of family and friends. It was a little under a year later when Juliet fell pregnant with their first child, and in the early spring their son Marco was born. He was followed fairly quickly by Carlotta, but there were a good few years then before Drusilla surprised them all. Juliet didn't even know she was pregnant with their third child. There were no signs of the pregnancy until the day Drusilla made her way into the world - four weeks early and in the middle of what should have been a research conference in Rome. Marcello nearly fainted when he heard the news from Juliet's boss, who was the only one not stunned enough to make the phone call.
Dru's surprising nature seemed to be a theme throughout her life. The shock value was something that stuck with the little girl as she grew. While Marco and Carlotta were buckling down to impress their parents with high grades, Dru was the kid clambering up the fruit trees in their back garden and making their mother scream. She was a wild child, very intelligent, but easily bored in the classroom. She wanted to make practical use of her knowledge and that was where she got into trouble. She would prank other children who were gullible enough to believe her tales and then laugh when they ended up getting caught in some silly mess she had set up, or were scolded by teachers for telling such wild lies. Unfortunately, Dru became the kid everyone looked at first when there was trouble. This was how she later managed to pick the friends, and develop the skills that would help her get away with the elaborate schemes that she would start running in her late teenage years.
She was the black sheep of the family, the only trouble maker with the Belmonte name. Her mother was furious each time she came home with a police escort or after a phone call from the school, but Dru never listened. The truth was, she had grown up in the shadow of Carlotta. Her sister was the perfect daughter and for as long as she could remember she had only ever heard her mother praise the oldest girl who was the best at everything, and practically a mini Juliet. Marco was closer to Dru, and covered for her when he could, though he often told her that he didn't know why. He too was academically gifted, but he preferred to be in the kitchen and since it was where he often was, Dru picked up a few tricks from him when it came to cooking, and later developed that talent with Marco when her parents gave her the choice of going to a teen camp for the summer or working with him in a country club kitchen. She wasn't about to sit around a camp fire for anyone, so she joined her brother in the kitchen, swearing loudly and scaring quite a few people who refused to believe that she was just a kid with the attitude she gave off.
Marcello's job ultimately moved the family to New York when Dru was sixteen. She didn't want to move, hated everything about it, but their house was old in the city, and Dru discovered an old prohibition tunnel in the back of the basement when she was hiding down there one day. The tunnels became her escape when her mother was driving her crazy. Marcello was a little more lenient with his daughter, but he was very much under the thumb of Juliet who wanted Dru to be like Carlotta, and Dru wanted absolutely nothing of the sort. AT school, she was seen as a freak at first. It only changed when she overheard some of the junior kids complaining that they couldn't get into a college party without ID. She was mumbling to herself about their lack of skills, but one overheard and asked what her problem was. Dru shrugged and said that it wasn't the hardest thing in the world to make a passable fake ID, and before she knew it they were paying her fifty bucks each to prove she could do it. She had to bribe a few other kids for the things she needed on short notice, but she made it work and once that happened other people kept coming to her. Her name was made at the school and she had to get quick to keep from getting caught. Requests became more elaborate and Dru sharpened her skills and had some of the less popular guys become lackeys for her so she didn't attract so much attention all the time.
She built up quite the reputation, and outside of the school she was still out at all hours and getting into the kind of trouble that only drove a wedge further between herself and her mother. Her friends were older, some drop-outs, and they drove motorcycles and fixed up cars. Dru was in bars when she shouldn’t have been and in fights that she claimed she didn’t start. The only time they felt she was being normal and safe was when she was at concerts, though she raced all over the city for them, some in big venues and others in dingy, dark bars that left Juliet with far too many questions when Dru staggered home at 2am smelling of smoke (not hers) and vodka (definitely hers). There was no changing Dru though, and even though she was clever, and her report cards proved it, everyone knew that the girl was trouble. Her appearance and attitude screamed it when she walked into a room.
When she was eighteen, Marcello sat her down one night when she came home and calmly spoke with her about her options. He told her that she needed to make some choices about her life. Carlotta was a surgeon, impressing her bosses and with high ambitions for the future, and Marco had just received a business loan to open his own restaurant on the Upper East Side. Marcello explained that if Drusilla wanted to keep running wild then it was her choice, but he couldn’t do a thing to stop Juliet from cutting her off and chucking her out, but if she went to college, found anything there that might appease the woman for a few years, then he could keep her with an apartment and at least some stability while she rode the rest of this wave out. Marcello always believed that Dru would eventually calm down if Juliet just let her find her path in life, rather than try to force her into something she wanted her to be. It was this reason that Dru, reluctantly, chose to attend college, though she insisted on a gap year first.
During that year out she travelled a bit, and Marco offered her a job in his restaurant as one of his chefs. He told her that there was no one better than she was, and that he’d pay for her to go to one of the best culinary schools, even though she didn’t need it; he even said that he thought she was better than he was. Dru rejected his offer though. She didn’t want that responsibility or commitment in her life. Choosing college had been tough enough, and in the end she had selected Chemistry only because it would grant her access to materials and equipment that may prove useful to her.
She set her mark on NYU in a subtle way. She was still the girl to see about getting IDs for those who were too young, or getting other things college kids might need for the right price. This time though, no one knew the girl behind the curtain. She operated smoothly, working with the library and a burner phone. She enlisted a few people as her ‘employees’, though their payment came in nothing more than survival and avoiding her right hook. She was the neighbour the apartment block loathed, due to her drunken returns being loud, the constant music blaring when she was home, and the shouting in Italian whenever anyone tried to talk to her. Dru isn’t a bad person, never has been, but she finds life boring, especially in New York, and there’s no one who has come along yet to liven it all up for her.
