HISTORY: Taekhoon was born perfectly healthy, the second son to a small family living in the capitol city of South Korea, Seoul. However, soon after he turned two, his father turned abusive towards their mother. He had lost his job, and in his stress, began drinking more. Taekhoon was about eight when he turned on the children. The family lived in silence until Taekhoon was thirteen, and his father brought home a gun. He threaten to kill his family and then himself, putting everyone out of their misery. As he shot toward Taekhoon, however, his older brother blocked him, and was practically dead on impact. Taekhoon charged him, knocking his father down and getting shot in the stomach in the process. By then, his mother had called 911, and told Taekhoon to run while his father was down. They both ran from the house, hiding until the police came.
It was less than a year later Taekhoon began having hallucinations, the most common one being a young boy like himself, who was always happy, and never faced any problems or difficulties in his life. It was when he tried to introduce the boy to his mother did she finally admit there was a problem with her son. It had been much quieter, her husband now in jail, and they were living peacefully, and she had hoped it would all go back to normal.
He was soon diagnosed with Schizophrenia. His mother became depressed herself, feeling like it had been her fault her son was sick. It wasn't until she joined a support group did she learn how to help him and was able to grow out of her depression. In the group, she met a man about her age, KwangJin, who was in the group because his brother was diagnosed as schizophrenic. She soon fell in love, and within a few months, had KwangJin meet Taekhoon. Taekhoon was at first very weary of him, even angry at him, but now they have a very good relationship.
Right before Taekhoon graduated from middle school, his mother announced her and KwangJin were going to get married. By then, he fully supported it, and even looked forward to getting a "good dad."
However, entering high school made it difficult. Somehow, the other students found out about his mental disability, and he was being severely bullied. The medication suddenly didn't work as well, and he was showing signs of being suicidal.
It was during winter break his first year of high school his step-father suggested they move. There was a trust-worthy program focusing on mental illnesses in New York, and it wouldn't be too difficult to adjust if they lived near Korea-town. The family considered it, decided to take a last minute trip for the holidays to scope out the town. Although his mother wasn't immediately convinced, Taekhoon fell in love with the city that never sleeps almost immediately.
At the end of his school year, which is in February in Korea, the family moved to New York. Kyungsoo's mother had bought a small empty shop, intending to fulfill her dream of having her own restaurant, while his step-father got a job at an International Korean company. Not immediately signing him up for school, Taekhoon was originally testing out the possibility of new medications as well as new doctors. By the time the school year began, he was once again relatively stable.
On his first day of school, he sat next to a girl that was immediately excited to meet him and introduce herself in shaky Korean, telling him she was obsessed with the culture and consequently fell in love with the music, dramas, food, etc. She ended up becoming his best friend, Selena. Around Christmas time, after having a bad bout of depression, he hesitantly revealed to her he was schizophrenic, afraid he'd lose practically his only friend in the U.S. What happened instead surprised him, as she just hugged him and told him that didn't make her see him any differently.
They became extremely close after that Winter break, to the point everyone else assumed they were dating. By the time they were 18 and her family said they were moving cross-country to live in Los Angeles, she knew she couldn't leave Taekhoon. Both her and Taekhoon were surprised when his family offered her their spare room, saying it wouldn't be any sacrifice to change the small office into a small room.
Taekhoon's step-father quit his job after deciding to pursue one of his passions, mostly brought on by the successful remodeling of both kid's rooms. The weird family is happier than they ever been, minus the occasional relapses on Taekhoon's part. Taekhoon went to college with Selena, but quit half way through due to too much stress, which was cause a drop in the effectiveness of his medication. He began helping at his mother's restaurant, and hasn't shown much desire to do much else, at least not yet. He keeps talking about going back to school, and his family plus Selena are hoping he'll actually do it soon.
Also, thanks to Selena being outgoing, they now have their own little clique, two other girls and one other guy in their group. While Taekhoon has not yet told him about his schizophrenia, they've all gotten close enough he's confident they would stay by his side, like Selena had.

SAMPLE:Rui trudged along the mall until he came across the food court. A pick me up was needed. He supposed he should've thought through his agreement more when fourteen gay - or very metrosexual in some cases - men asked him if he wanted to go shopping. Why yes, I like shopping. His stupid mouth had agreed at the time.
Now not only was he forced to wake up at seven am to even get here by the time they all wanted to meet up, it was near dinner time and all he'd had to eat was some thing called a "health smoothie" because god forbid they put on pounds. He chose a place, some Chinese restaurant his grandparents would probably complain about, and let out a sigh. His arms were tired from carrying all the bags, and of course this had to be the one day his main partner, Lucas, had some sort of family plans. The jerk probably just doesn't like shopping. He scowled. After getting the Chinese food, he scoped the area for a coffee shop. A Starbucks will do. He settled, going in and grabbing a Venti iced vanilla latte before looking around outside for a place to eat. Most places were full, or worse, near some lovey dovey couple. It was nice out though so Rui was determined. Eventually he came across a man (a rather attractive man, he had to admit) sitting alone on the bench. "Mind if I join you?" He asked the man with a polite smile.
