It was still pretty early in the day, but that hadn't deterred Harper from letting herself into one of the music rooms while the janitorial staff were still cleaning the corridors. The flurry of students would be along in an hour to destroy their hard work, but she supposed that was part and parcel of their job. As for her, she had her guitar case in hand and felt inspired when she had awoken a few hours earlier. It wasn't like Harper slept for long; not after her accident. It was always just enough to get her through the day without feeling like she needed to be hooked up to and IV drip to pump her full of caffeine. One of the many side effects the doctors had expected for her, but one of the only few that had ultimately materialised. Maybe it was her positive attitude and determination that had helped keep some of the other terrifying possibilities at bay. She wasn't about to let any of them hold her back when she had dreams to chase.
She wasn't really required to be on the college campus until after lunch. Today was her half day, with a musical theory seminar in the afternoon. However at least at the university she was less likely to disturb people with her music than she was back home. Harper had great neighbours, one of which was also her cousin, but she knew she could get loud when inspired. The last thing she wanted was for those who didn't know her so well to think she was trouble when all she was doing was writing songs and playing guitar. So, with everything set up just how she liked it in the music room, Harper began.
The time was ticking by and she spied the students migrating from classroom to lecture hall through the small pane in the window. A few hours had gone by, and using her phone for the time she noticed that it was almost eleven in the morning. Choosing now to take a break for water and air, Harper rested her guitar in the case and fished around in her bag for her water bottle. She never left the house without it full. After gulping down a few mouthfuls, she opened the door and held it with her leg, balancing on the prosthetic for just a second before she could grab the doorstop to hold it in place. This was as far as Harper's idea of air went right now. She still wanted to get some more stuff done before lunch and her classes began, but to actually leave this practice room might see her forfeit the space and have to search out another. She suspected by now that more students occupied the others and the muffled drums and singing she could hear seemed to support her theory. Harper stretched out and then brought the water bottle back to her lips. Her morning had been productive and she could only hope it stayed that way.
